    I was in the college when my father passed away. One evening, a man visited me and after a while, he asked of my studies. I told him I could not go to college so I did not want to study anymore. He reminded how my father had sent me to the best college in our city. Did I want to fulfill his father's dream or did I want to be calling a failure? I wept and said I do want to do my best and I just couldn't concentrate. He gave me all the encouragements I needed to be able to carry on. His calming, gently voice did wonders and I decided to study harder and complete my graduation early.

    With the progress of society, the volunteer spirit has spread all over a country. More and more people are willing to be volunteer and take part in volunteer activities. Get involved in volunteer work means a lot to our society. Firstly, you show loving care for others when you are doing voluntary service. You pass love and civilization on to others with their volunteer work, and make others feel that there are always people care about them. This made our society more harmonious. Secondly, people whom you help may influenced by your good deeds and follow your lead. In a result, all people may help and care about each other, or the world will become a better place to live in. Since volunteer work is so meaningfully, we should call on more people to take part in it actively.

    My best friends gave me a present in a box on my birthday. It was a little heavy, which made me very curiously. So I intended to open it at once but she prevented me do so. She said I mustn't open it until I went back home but gave me a naughty smile. Although there is a strong desire in my mind to know that was inside the box, I just did as she said. On the way to home, all I did was thinking about the puzzle. Finally I opened the box. It was a cup printing with a pink word — friendship. It was so lovely that I liked very much.

    Now, every time I use a cup, I will think about her and the friendship between us.

    Here is my idea about how a friend is like. Firstly, a friend is someone you can share your secrets. If you tell him a secret, he will never talks about it with anybody else. Besides, a friend is always good listener when you need one. After hear your sad stories, he will say some words that is nice and warm. Still, your happiness makes him happily too. What's more, a good friend is willing to offer the help to which you need, or can at least give you some advices. In a word, friends are those you like and trust, and you will enjoy every minute that you spent with them.

Dear Editor,

    I'm the only daughter of my parents. So they worried about everything I do. For example, when I ride my bike, my parents won't let me ride by myself. They are afraid of I might fall off my bike and hurt myself. Instead, they are taking great trouble to support a bike, with my mother even carrying a first-aid box. I'm not free to ride and I often say angry, 'Why not let me ride alone?' Now, most family have one child. Parents want to do everything for his children. This does no good on them. Too much love from parents may prevent children from become independent. In my opinion, parents should let their children do that they should do alone.
