Good evening, everyone! It is my honor to be here to share something with you. Today my topic is “Stop {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(choose) merit students(优秀生)”.

    There is no doubt {#blank#}2{#/blank#} choosing merit students may inspire some students to learn from those models, which make many parents happy, for they always attach great importance to their education. However, this way has its {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (weak). As we know, the students are still young, and choosing merit students may be {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(harm) to their mental health by sorting them into good students and bad students. So it {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(obvious) doesn't benefit them in health. At the same time, teachers are always {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(drown) in teaching, thus ignoring their virtue and PE, which does more harm {#blank#}7{#/blank#} good to the growth of students.

As a matter of fact, what is more important is that we should take measures to enter their minds to find {#blank#}8{#/blank#} they are thinking and desiring. Only in this way can we really find an effective method {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(guide) them at school. Everyone may have a balanced {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(develop).

    Fishermen and {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (sail) sometimes claim to have seen monsters in the sea. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} people have often laughed at stories told by seamen, it is now {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (know) that many of these ‘monsters' which have at times been sighted are {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (simple) strange fish. Occasionally, {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (usual) creatures are washed to the shore, but they are rarely caught out at sea. Some time ago, however, a peculiar fish was caught near Madagascar. A small fishing boat {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (carry) miles out to sea by the powerful fish as it pulled on the line. {#blank#}7{#/blank#}  (realize) that this was no ordinary fish, the fisherman made every effort not to damage {#blank#}8{#/blank#} in any way. When it was eventually brought to shore, it was found to be over thirteen feet long. It had a head like a horse, big blue eyes, shinning silver skin and a bright red tail. The fish, which has since been sent to a museum {#blank#}9{#/blank#} it is being examined by a scientist, is called an oarfish. Such creatures have rarely been seen {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (live) by man as they live at a depth of six hundred feet.

    The story happened in ancient times. A king was so clever that he thought of a good way to test {#blank#}1{#/blank#} his men were reliable.

    One day, he had a huge rock {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (place) on a roadway at night. Then he hid {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (him) nearby and watched carefully to see if anyone would remove the big rock. Some {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (wealth) businessmen and high officials came by, but they simply walked around it. Many of them even loudly blamed the king for not keeping the roads clear, but none of them would bother {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (get) the big stone out of the way.

    Then a villager came along carrying a load of vegetables. On {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (approach) the big rock, he stopped and laid down his burden, trying hard to move the stone to the side of the road. After much pushing, he {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (final) succeeded. As the villager picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a purse lying in the road where the rock {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (be). The purse contained many gold coins and a note from the king, saying that the gold was for the person {#blank#}9{#/blank#} removed the huge rock from the road.

    The villager learned a valuable lesson that many others would never understand: Every obstacle presents {#blank#}10{#/blank#} opportunity to improve one's condition.

    Recently Linda hasn't felt herself. She was a really good student, but her grades {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(fall) since three months ago. This is because she sometimes has trouble {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(put) her heart into her study. She also refuses {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(talk) with teachers and friends. What's worse, she feels {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(tire)all the time but has {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(difficult) in falling asleep. Her behavior attracts her mother's attention. Her mother asks her {#blank#}6{#/blank#}happens to her, but she just cries.

    As {#blank#}7{#/blank#}matter of fact, Linda is suffering from clinical depression(临床抑郁症).What is clinical depression? It can be described as a mood which is {#blank#}8{#/blank#} low that it affects your daily life seriously. The first signs of it in teens are {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(poor) school reports than before, learning difficulties and staying away from classmates and teachers. If you have these signs, don't worry. It is not so difficult to deal {#blank#}10{#/blank#}clinical depression. There are many effective ways, such as medicine, small talk, more exercise and a balanced diet.

    I am now on my year abroad in Germany as part of my university course. At the {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (begin) of my time here, I had the chance to meet so many new people and make lots of new friends. It is almost like {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (start) a new life and can make you feel nervous and lonely at first. But I knew that when I moved to Germany I had to be open and friendly. This is {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (certain) what I have done since moving here and I have made some great friends along the way.

    Next week a friend of {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (I) is moving to Spain for the next part of her year abroad. She will be living near a beach and have a lot of fun. But I am also {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (concern) about her as she will have to start a new life in another new country. She said that she {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (want) to go back in time very much.

    In order {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (say) goodbye to her, a group of friends and I had a surprise party. We made her a scrapbook (剪贴簿) with photos and memories of her time here so {#blank#}8{#/blank#} she could take it along! We hope that she has {#blank#}9{#/blank#} wonderful time in Spain and that she will get along well {#blank#}10{#/blank#} her new classmates and settle into her new home.
