There was once a farmer who lived near a road. It was not a1road, but from time to time, cars passed the farm.

Near the farm gate, there was a large 2 in the road. This hole was always full of water.

The drivers of the cars that passed by could not 3 how deep the hole was. They thought it was probably shallow (浅的). Then when they drove into the hole, they could not drive4because it was very deep.

The farmer did not spend much time5on his farm. He spent most of time watching the hole. When a car drove into it, he pulled the car out with his tractor (拖拉机) and demanded a lot of6 for doing this.

One day, a driver of a car said to him: “You must make a lot of money by pulling cars out of this hole7.”

“Oh, no,” the farmer said. “I don't pull cars out of the hole at night. At night I fill the hole with water.”

    When I was twelve years old, I went with my dad to his work — a car showroom. I was walking 1 carelessly and saw a poor woman with a child beside her standing outside the showroom. I saw that she was crying and went inside to tell my father. He went out and asked the woman to come into the 2. He offered her some water and then asked her what was wrong.

   The woman said that her 3 had died and she didn't have anyone else in her family who could help her. She did some manual (体力的) labor to earn some money to take care of her daughter but the child was 4 for the last three days and she was unable to go to work. Now she didn't have a grain of food to eat. While she was telling this story to my father, she was unable to control  her emotions (情绪) and started 5 again. My father and I were deeply moved by her story. 

    We got some food for her and her child. My father then took them to the nearest 6 for her child to be treated as she did not seem to be very well. On the way, we 7 her a 5kg-bag of wheat from the market. My father gave her some money before we left. The lady was so grateful.

    It is eight years later, but that event is still very  8 in my mind. My father's kindness to this woman moved me greatly and since then, I have 9 to try and walk a similar path and serve others. I'm happy to see so many other people in this world are also ready to help others when they meet people in 10. They have chosen to walk a service path also.

Mr Henry lived in a small village. All day he worked on his farm and never went to the 1.

Sometimes he went to the2 town to buy something, but he always walked there and never took a bus or train. His daughter, Ann, 3 her father and found work in a hospital in the capital. As she was 4 ， she had no time to go back to the village. But she 5 her father and asked him to come to the capital. When Mr Henry heard from his daughter, he was quite6 and was soon ready to set off. The next day, as soon as he got to the 7 ， he rang Ann to tell her the time he would arrive.

Mr Henry spent about sixteen hours on the train. As soon as he 8 ， he saw his daughter standing there to meet him. Ann ran up to him and found that her father looked pale.

“What's the matter with you，Dad?” Ann asked 9.

“Nothing,” answered Mr Henry. “I'm just not used to sitting backwards in the train.”

“Oh，dear,” laughed the girl. “Why didn't you exchange 10 with the man opposite you?” “How can I do that?” answered Mr Henry. “No one sat opposite me!”

    On May Day holiday of this year, my parents and I went to the Great Wall. On the way I felt 1, because this was my first visit. I had dreamed 2 this trip many times. We took a train first, and then we took a bus to 3 there. When it appeared in front of me, I couldn't help 4. I said, "What a wonderful 5 it is!"

    When I walked on the Great Wall, I felt very proud because it is 6wall in the world. At the same time, I couldn't believe my eyes. I wondered how the ancient people built it by 7. I wondered how many people took part in building it. It was a mystery to me.

    I almost lost 8 in the beautiful scenery around it. "He 9 doesn't reach the Great Wall is not a 10 man. Now I'm on the top! I'm a true man," I said loudly.

    But, 11 there are many visitors every day, there are many problems for the Great Wall. For example, many visitors throw 12 about or spit on the Great Wall and some visitors 13 carved their names on it.

    As visitors, I think we 14 try our best to protect the Great Wall, not to destroy it. It's our duty. The past is not only for us to enjoy 15 for the people in the future.

    It was Molly's job to hand her father his paper lunch bag each morning before he left home to work.

    One morning, besides his 1 lunch bag. Molly handed him a second paper bag, which looked a bit old.

    "Why two bags?" her father asked. "The other is something else," Molly answered. "What's in it?" "Just something. Take it with you."

    He put2 paper bags into his briefcase (公文包), kissed Molly and rushed off. At noon he opened Molly's bag and took out all the things: a small Teddy bear, 2 tiny sea shells (贝壳), 5 small stones, and 12 coins…The 3 father smiled, finished eating, and swept the desk clean into the wastebasket, Molly's things in the bag included, and then put himself into the afternoon work.

    That evening, Molly ran up to him 4 he was reading the newspaper.

    "Where's my bag?" "What's bag?" "The one I gave you this morning."

"I 5 it at the office. Why?" "I forgot to put this 6 in it," she said. "And, besides, Daddy, the things in the bag are the things I really like—I thought you might like to 7 with them. You didn't lose the bag, did you, Daddy?"

    "Oh, no. I just forgot to bring it home." he 8.

    While Molly hugged (拥抱) her father's neck, he opened the note that read: "I love you, Daddy." Molly had given him her 9 —all that a 7-year-old held.

    Love in a paper bag, and he 10 it. He had even thrown it in the wastebasket. So back he went hurriedly to the 11. Just before the night cleaner, he found all the things back and carried the bag home 12 .

    After dinner, he asked Molly to tell him about the things in the bag. It 13 a long time to tell. 14 had a story or a memory.

    The life journey with the people we love is all that really matters. It is such a simple 15  but it is so easily forgotten.
