July 20th, 1969 was an important day. Two Americans 1 on the moon. Their 2 were Armstrong and Aldrin. They went there in a 3. Its name was ApolloⅡ.

    ApolloⅡ left the earth 4 July 16th and went three hundred and eighty-five thousand kilometers. It 5 the two Americans three days to get there. On July 20^th, the spaceship landed in the Sea of Tranquility (安静的世界). Armstrong 6 stepped onto (踏上) the moon. The two men walked on the surface of it. They 7 up some rocks and put them in the spaceship. They jumped up and down. They were 8 after their walk. So they had a rest.

    On July 21th, ApolloⅡleft the moon and 9 to the earth. Three days 10 it came down in the Pacific Ocean (太平洋). A ship took the men to America.

    Once there was a boy named Jimmy. He started drawing when he was three years old, and when he was five he was already very     1 at it. He drew many beautiful and interesting pictures, and many people 2 his pictures. They thought this boy was going to be 3 when he was a little older, and then they were going to 4 these pictures for a lot of money.

    Jimmy's pictures were quite different from other 5, because he never drew on all of the paper. He drew on 6 of it, and the other half was always 7.

    “That's very 8,” everybody said. “No other people have ever done that before”.

    One day, somebody asked him, “Please 9 me, Jimmy. Why do you draw on the bottom (底部) half of your pictures, but not on the top half.”

    “Because I'm small,” Jimmy said, “and my brushes can't 10 very high.”

    Mr. Smith stood at the bus stop and watched the cars go by. Many of the cars were new Beta400s, 1 most of them were yellow. Mr. Smith always 2 the same clothes as other men, ate the same 3 as other people, and did the same things after work, and 4 the end of the week, Mr. Smith did not like to be 5.

    The following week, Mr. Smith bought a new, bright, yellow Beta400. He was very 6 with it, and drove to work in it 7 the next day. He was even more pleased with his new car, when he 8 all the other Beta400s, in front, behind, and on 9 sides of it.

    Mr. Smith parked his car in a big car-park near his office, and walked the 10 of the way. But when he came back at five o'clock, there were 11 many bright yellow Beta400s in the car-park that Mr. Smith did not know 12 car was his. He tried his 13 in some of the cars, but people passing by 14 him a look that he did not like. So he stopped.

    15 Mr. Smith had to wait for nearly two hours until his was the only yellow Beta400s in the car-park.

    Mrs. Yuan is a writer. She's 1 and often helps the poor person. It was very cold one snowy morning. On the way to her office, she saw an old man 2 on the ground. She came to him and help him to 3 and bought some porridge and bread for him. The old man ate up the food quickly and  4 her very much. Then she asked. “Where do you live, Grandpa?”

     “I have no  5  madam,” said the old man. “ I have to sleep outside 6.”

     “How old are you?” “Ninety-two.” Mrs Yuan became 7 and went on asking, “Why not live in the old people's house?”  8 I have a son,” said the old man. “they've 9 admitted(接纳) a person who has children.”

     “Do you have any children?”

     “Yes,” answered the old man. “I have a son.”

     “Where is your son, then?”

     “He has no children, 10 the old people's house admitted him.”

     “It's unfair!” said Mrs. Yuan. She overcame several difficulties and at last helped him to live in the old people's house.

    Maria Mitchell was born in 1818 during a time when many people thought that woman did not need to learn . But , Mitchell's father thought that both boys and girls should go to school .1 he tutored her at home as well as sent to her to school .

    Mitchell's father , recognizing her interest in astronomy (天文学) at early age , encouraged her interest and taught her how to use a telescope . As an 2 she worked as the first librarian at the Nantucket Atheneum library from 1836to 1856 , all the while still looking at the sky at night , studying the stars and the planets.

    In October 1847, Mitchel saw a bright star through the telescope . She was sure that she had 3seen that star before. Excited , she ran to tell her father . She carefully wrote notes about the star. The next night , it looked as if the” star” had 4It also seemed to have a tail (尾巴)！Now , Mitchell was sure that she had found a comet , not a star.

    At eh time , the king of Denmark was offering a prize to the first person to find a comet that could only be seen through a telescope . Mitchell won the prize! It was a gold medal . But , she won something else too . She won people's respect when they saw that she was 5her work . Later , the American Academy of Arts and Sciences voted her in as its first female member .

    In 1856, a new college just for women opened . It was called Vassar College , and Mitchell became a professor there . She was the first female professor to teach astronomy , or the science of stars and planets . Because of her , female students learned that they could be scientists too . Women could make valuable 6to help understand our world .

    A little girl was born in America. She was1ill when she was 4. The illness left the girl a useless(无用的)2. She couldn't walk like other children, 3she had to wear a leg brace(支架). 4 , she had a good mother. Her mother5her to the doctor every week. So at 9, she could walk 6 the leg brace, like other children.

    At 13, the girl 7 running She took part in every race at school, but every time she was the 8 to reach the finishing line. Everyone knew that it was really9for her to run a common person. The girl kept practicing. One day, she started to win. Then she had a10. She wanted to be the world's greatest woman11.

    Later the girl went to university and met Ed Temple, a coach(教练). She asked Temple to be her coach and he12. Ed Temple trained the girl so13that she went to the Olympic Games in 1960. Guess14? She won two gold medals in the 400-meter and 200-meter races. With a good term, she also wen the 400-meter relay race(接力赛).

    The girl was Wilma Rudolph—one of the15woman in the world.
