    The Internet, social media, and smart phones allow you to learn many things.However, just like in the real world, not everyone online is your friend. Some may use these tools to send unpleasant messages to you, and some may use your information to do something bad. It's very important to know how to stay safe and have positive experiences online. Here are some tips for you.

    Be careful about friend or follower requests. When you have a friend or follower request, check the person's information first.Only accept friend or follower requests from people you have met in the real world. Don't chat with people you don't know or trust. This is a good way to keep you safe.

    Review location(定位) services on your phone and other mobile devices.They may put you in danger because others can find you easily. To make sure of your safety, turn off the "location services" or "locations settings" features on your mobile devices. Also turn off GPS for the camera, chat and other social media apps.

    Strong passwords (密码)should have some upper and lower-case letters, numbers and symbols. If you have a strong password, it'll be difficult for others to know it. Also, avoid having the same password for all your social and education accounts (账户). It is really not safe for your accounts.

    If someone sends unpleasant messages to you online, find someone you feel safe talking to. For example, you can talk to a parent, a teacher or a trusted adult and ask him to help report and block(屏蔽) the person. Don't try to do the same thing when others do something that hurts your feelings online.

    Nowadays a vegetarian (素食的) lifestyle is becoming more and more popular. Keeping a vegetarian diet is one of the best things we can do.

    {#blank#}1{#/blank#} A well planned vegetarian diet provides us with all the nutrients (营养素) we need and avoids fat, cholesterol (胆固醇) found in animal flesh, eggs, and dairy foods. And it can provide protection against various kinds of diseases, including the three biggest killers: heart disease, cancer, and other serious diseases. The American Dietetic Association states that vegetarians have lower rates of death from heart disease, lower blood cholesterol levels, lower blood pressure and lower rates of high blood pressure. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Scientists have also found that vegetarians have stronger immune systems than their meat-eating friends. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Vegetarians live, on average, 6 to 10 years longer than meat eaters.

    {#blank#}4{#/blank#} Animals raised for food consume the vast majority of their calories simply in order to live, just as we do. We feed more than 70 percent of the grains to farm animals. So it's really a huge waste, isn't it? Try your best to find tips on the health benefits of a vegetarian diet. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}

    Eyesight plays a very important role in our daily life. Every waking moment, the eyes are working to see the world around us. Over forty percent of Americans worry about losing eyesight, but it's easy to include steps into our daily life to ensure healthy eyes. Here are five suggestions for a lifetime of healthy eyesight:

    Schedule yearly exams. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Experts advise parents to bring babies 6 to 12 months of age to the doctor for a careful check. The good news is that millions of children now can have yearly eye exams and following treatment, including eyeglasses.

    Protect against UV rays (紫外线). Longterm stay in the sun creates risk to your eyes. No matter what the season is, it's extremely important to wear sunglasses. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}

    {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Two thirds of Americans spend up to seven hours a day using computers or other digital products. This frequent eye activity increases the risk for eye tiredness. Experts recommend that people practice the 20/20/20 rule: every 20 minutes, take a 20second break and look at something 20 feet away.

    {#blank#}4{#/blank#} As part of a healthy diet, eat more fruits and vegetables each day. Vitamins (维生素) C and E help protect eyesight and promote eye health.

    Practice safe wear and care of contact lenses (隐形眼镜). Many Americans use contact lenses to improve their eyesight. While some follow the medical advice for wearing contact lenses, many are breaking the rules and putting their eyesight at risk. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} Otherwise, you may have problems such as red eyes, pain in the eyes, or a more serious condition.

Most Valuable Possessions on Earth

Marie was a single mother of two children in a rural Missouri community. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} She also dedicated much spare time to numerous charities and community projects.

    Then one day Marie received some shocking news from her doctor. She had cancer, and it was spreading rapidly. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}

    Soon, Marie witnessed what she had always known: although she was not financially wealthy, she already had the most valuable possessions on earth. Hundreds in her community and surrounding areas teamed up to help her and her family.

    Many people she had touched in caring ways demonstrated appreciation for Marie's life. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} However, she lived long enough to feel the love of those she had cheerfully served.

    The spirits of love and gratitude multiply(增加) when they are shared. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} Giving selflessly was a value that Marie displayed all her life, and her spirit of giving lived after her in those who knew and loved her.

    All her life, Marie had demonstrated(演示) the truth of this simple principle : {#blank#}5{#/blank#} Rather, it is an attitude that comes from appreciating what we already have. We can find the happiness we seek if we will first share it with others. Then —— and only then——we will have the most valuable possessions on earth: love, happiness, and increasing gratitude.

A. Happiness is the result of sharing love and gratitude.

B. She worked full-time during the day and sold handcrafted leather gifts on weekends.

C. She lived a rather poor and hard life with the two children.

D. Marie didn't live to see the day when her bills were fully paid.

E. Love is second to none.

F. She had barely enough resources to put a cent in the medical treatments she would need.

G. Happiness will not come from worldly possessions of fortune.

根据短文内容,从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

    Happiness is the only true measure of personal success. Making other people happy is the highest expression of success. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}With that in mind, here are some suggestions that will immediately increase the amount of happiness in your life:

{#blank#}2{#/blank#}

    If there's any big truth about life, it's that it usually lives up to your expectations. Therefore, when you rise from bed, make your first thought: "Something wonderful is going to happen today." Guess what? You're probably right.

    Take time to plan and prioritize(优先处理)

    The most common source of stress is the thought that you've got too much work to do. Rather than worry about it, pick one thing that will move you closer to your highest goal and purpose in life. Then do that first.

    Eat high quality food slowly

    {#blank#}3{#/blank#}Even so, at least once a day try to eat something really delicious, like a small chunk of fine cheese or an imported chocolate. Taste it, focus on it and enjoy it.

Let go of your results.

    The big enemy of happiness is worry, which comes from focusing on events that are outside your control. Once you've taken action, there's usually nothing more you can do. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}

    End each day with gratitude

    Just before you go to bed, write down at least one wonderful thing that happened. It might be something as small as making a child laugh or something as huge as a million dollar deal.{#blank#}5{#/blank#}

A. Start each day with expectations.

B  Give a gift to everyone you meet.

C. Focus on the job at hand rather than some fantasy that might happen.

D. Whatever it is, be grateful for that day because it will never come again.

E. Sometimes we can't avoid eating something quickly and running.

F. Thinking about that thing makes your head hurt.

G. It's impossible to make others happy if you're not happy.

    Homework is a major part of going to school: It's your teachers' way of evaluating how much you understand what's going on in class. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}Luckily, you can do a few things to make homework less burden.

    Be sure you understand the homework

    Write your homework down in your notebook or day planner if you need to. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} It's much easier to take a minute to ask the teacher during or after class than to struggle to remember later that night!

    Use any extra time in school

    Many schools have study halls that are specifically designed to allow students to study. It' s tempting (诱惑人的) to hang out with friends during study periods or unstructured (松散的) time. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}

    Take a break

    {#blank#}4{#/blank#}So take some breaks while doing your homework. Sitting for too long without stretching or relaxing will make you less productive than if you stop every so often. Taking a 15-minute break every hour is a good idea for most people.

    {#blank#}5{#/blank#}

    If you don't finish your homework during school, think about how much you have left and what else is going on that day, and then budget your time. Most high-school students have between 1 and 3 hours of homework a night. If it's a heavy homework day and it seems like you've got an assignment in every subject but gym and lunch, you'll need to devote more time to homework. It's a good idea to come up with some kind of homework schedule, especially if you are involved in sports or activities or have an after-school job.

A. Once your homework is done, you can check over it if you have extra time.

B. And it helps digest important concepts.

C. Plan yourself.

D. Settle down to homework.

E. Don't be afraid to ask questions about what's expected in your homework.

F. But the more work you can get done in school, the less you'll have to do that night.

G. Most people's attention spans (跨度) aren't very long.
