Do you keep a diary(日记) every day? Do you think it is great to remember just what you did on a day many years ago? One way to remember each day is to write about it in a diary. Many people write their diaries every day. They write about what they did, what they ate, whom they saw and met, how they did something and how they felt during that day.

Most people do not want anyone else to read their diaries. They keep them in a safe (安全的)place. Some Chinese students try to keep diaries in English not only to help themselves to remember something, but also to practice English.

Long ago, many people wrote diaries, too. People have found some of those old diaries.  Some diaries are useful because we can learn about the life long ago, or we can get to know something important or something interesting.

There are many famous diaries in the world. Most people in China have read the Diaries of Lei Feng. Lei Feng was a soldier(战士).In his short life, he did a lot of good things for others and for his country. He was always ready to give, but never asked for anything from people. He kept diaries and from them, people learn what a great man he was. In China's schools,  students learn some of his diaries as texts(课文).

Typing(打字) is one of the most important and basic work skills of the 21st century. Because mobile phones are now so popular, there is a new kind of typing-thumbing. Thumbing means people use one or more thumbs(拇指) to touch the keys.

Most people can type between 20 and 35 words a minute. Some typists, however, can work very quickly, at more than 110 words a minute. And people's left hand usually does 56 percent of the typing.

The most common international English keyboard is QWERTY. People name it after the first letters on the top left side of the keyboard. It is more than 140 years old. Other keyboards include QWERTZ (in Central Europe) and AZERTY (used by most French speakers in Europe). Countries with non-Roman alphabets(字母系统), such as, Arabia, Russia or Japan, have their own keyboards.

People practise the sentence "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" to make their typing better. That's because it uses every letter of the English alphabet.

Thumbing and typing can hurt you. RSI (repetitive strain injury) is the name of a medical condition you get if you type too much. However, most people do not understand what RSI is or how serious it can be. Anyone who uses a computer a lot is at risk and should know about RSI.

Young star shines

Over the years, skilled Chinese players have been doing very well in table tennis. Now, young athletes from Generation Z are becoming the stars of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Born in 2000, Sun Yingsha has been given the nickname "Little Devil" by her fans. When she was little, Sun was sensitive to the sound of a table tennis ball hitting the ground. "I felt I had some talent," she told China Daily.

When Sun first joined the reserve squad (预备队) of the national table tennis team, she was excited. Becoming a world top player like her idol Zhang Yining has always been her dream.

However, there have been challenges along the way. She took part in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 and it was there that she faced huge losses. "I was not well- rounded enough to win the gold medal in the women's singles," Sun said.

Sun believes that life is always full of ups and downs. "Determination and courage can make a good athlete," she said. "What keeps me going are the goals and dreams I set for myself,"

At the 2023 Singapore Smash, Sun won the women's singles, the women's doubles and the mixed doubles, becoming the first athlete to get three gold medals at the tournament (锦标赛) . Looking at the world ranking website, you can see Sun's name at the top of the women's singles, women's doubles and mixed doubles.

When talking about younger table tennis players, Sun encourages them to keep their love and stay focused. "If you truly love table tennis, I hope you can hold on to it," she said.
