On Thursday October 3, Adam Harper decided to stop drinking coffee. Adam is a MBA student at Harvard University. He studies long hours, gets very little sleep, so he drinks a lot of coffee—anywhere from five to six cups a day. Recently, Adam felt that drinking thus much coffee was making it hard for him to sleep at all. He also began having problems with his concentration(注意力), and complained of stomachaches. Adam's doctor made this suggestions: stop drinking coffee altogether.

    When Adam got up on October 3, he began his day without his morning coffee. By 11:00 a.m., Adam was in a terrible mood. He was tired and had a headache. At 11:30, he had a meeting with his student advisor. In the meeting, he found it almost impossible to continue. What was going on?

    Caffeine, a chemical found in coffee, was most likely the reason for how Adam felt. Caffeine is a stimulant that boosts(增加) energy levels and improves concentration- but only for a short time. Lowering caffeine consumption(减少摄取咖啡因) often makes a drop in blood pressure and the result is a “coffee headache”. People who stop drinking coffee often say they feel tired and moody, and find it hard to focus.

    The good news is that these feeling usually pass after four and five days. During this time, doctors suggested taking some aspirin for the headache. So, if Adam can wait, in less than a week, he may be feeling much better.

    Hi, my name is Toby, and I am now eight years old. When I was five, I decided that I wanted to find out lots about the world, so I started writing letters to somebody in every country in the world.     Mason has seen the future—and it's fun. Mason likes thinking about how machines can make our life easier by doing the work we hate, such as cleaning. He shows a floor cleaning machine that's built into the wall. It can clean up the floor.

    When it comes to the kitchen, Bruce, an expert at Whirlpool, is sure that in a few years, robots will be doing most of the boring work, freeing us to relax. "More than just fun, future kitchens will be environmentally friendly," he says. A new system will be built in the house which can recycle energy lost from your kitchen to make the whole home warm.

    "The fridge will be the centre of the home," says Daniel, a market expert. The fridge will have a touch screen (触摸屏幕) where you can watch TV, surf the Internet, check your emails, keep a shopping list and order vegetables. "Your fridge is the first place you go to in the morning and the last place at night," says Daniel.

    "I wonder why a 1.9-metre man and 1.6-metre woman have to cook meals on counters (柜台) of the same height," Jane Langmuir, an expert of cooking machines, says. "But times have changed. We have made a new counter where you can press a button and it moves to whatever height you want."

    Ted Selker has made the dish maker which lets you make dishes and bowls out of plastics at home. After each meal, the dishes are changed straight back into plastics.

①For the past ten years，my dad and I have attended the same school—he as an administrator （行政人员） and I as a student. Our relationship，has been totally unpredictable. 

②When I was younger，all that my dad said was doctrine （信条） and I copied anything he did. We played games together（依靠） my dad taking me to school，running into him regularly during the day and riding home with him every afternoon.

⑥I feel lucky to have such an unusual father. The relationship I have developed with my dad over the years has enabled me to look back and see how I've grown. 

Stephen Hawking was born in Oxford, England on 8th January, 1942. He went to school in St Albans. Although he did well, he was never top of his class. After1 school, Hawking went first to Oxford University2 he studied physics，and then he went to Cambridge University to study cosmology(宇宙学). As he himself admitted（入学）, he did very 3 work. However, he still got better marks than 4 . 

It was at the age of 20 that Hawking first noticed there 5 something wrong with him. He started to bump into (碰撞) things. When he visited his family at Christmas time，his mother was 6 worried that she made him see a doctor. Hawking 7 to hospital for tests. Finally, the result came back. Hawking had motor neuron disease（运动神经元疾病）, an incurable illness which would make him 8 to speak, breathe or move without the help of a machine. Doctors said they had no way to help him. He 9 before he was 23. At first, Hawking became very low. 

After a while, he began to see his life in 10 different way. As he later wrote, "Before my illness was diagnosed(诊断), I had been very tired of life. It seemed that nothing was worth doing. But shortly after I came out of hospital, I suddenly 11 that there were a lot of worthwhile things I could do." Hawking married, found a job at Cambridge University,12 had three children. He also went to do some of the most important scientific researches. 

Hawking worked 13 a professor at Cambridge University 14 his death on March 14, 2018. He 15 believed that no matter how hard life was, nobody should lose hope.
