    Gina, who is thirteen years old, got first prize in the "Young Cook of the Year" competition and she wants to write a recipe book for kids. "I want it to be fun to read and easy enough for children tousle," she says. Gina learned by watching her father, who's also good at cooking, in the kitchen. She wants to encourage other children to cook because "everyone needs to eat so it's a skill that will always be useful!" Seventeen-year-old Brian used to love running until he was hurt in a serious accident three years ago.  He lost part of one leg and didn't even expect to walk again Now he's an athlete who has recently taken part in a long race. "After my accident I wanted to give up," he says. "But now I'm happy to be alive and able to continue running." Helen has always been good at science, but she thought it was too difficult to become an inventor.

    Then she heard about an accident that had happened when a car hit a train in her town. "That gave me an idea," says the clever sixteen-year-old. It took her over a year to invent a small special machine that tells car drivers when a train is coming. One company is already interested in selling it, so it maybe in the shops soon!

    One day a man went home after work and said to his wife, "I bought something for you." "Thank you!" said his wife. "What have you bought for me?" "I've bought a gold ring (戒指). Here it is." He took it out for his wife to see. Then he dropped it to the ground. He began to look for it on the ground, but it was dark in the house and he could not see anything. Then he went out and began to look for it in the street. Just then a friend came along. "What's the matter with you?" asked his friend. "I'm looking for my ring. I lost it just now," said the man. "Where did you lose it?" "I lost it in my house just now." "①You lost your ring in your house, but you are looking for it in the street. How foolish (愚蠢的)you are!" "Ah," said the man, "but it is dark in my house. I shall never find it there. But here in the street, it is much brighter. I can see everything." When his friend heard his words, he laughed and laughed.②你觉得这个人怎么样?

Some of my earliest memories include sitting with my dad in his study every night when he came home from the office. I watched1 he put his personal items away: his watch, wallet, comb and car keys. They would always take up the same space on the table every time.

Dad's comb was jade green. I heard he bought it when he married Mum. Every night, he would smile, hand me the comb and say, "Be a good girl and help Daddy 2 it, OK?"

I was more than happy to do it. At age five, this kind of task brought me such joy. I would turn on the tap 3 , and then brush the comb with a used toothbrush as hard as I could.4 that I'd done a good job, I would proudly return the comb to Dad. He would smile at me, and place the comb on top of his wallet.

About two years later, Dad left his sales job and started his own wholesale business. I started primary school. That was when things started to 5 . Dad's business wasn't doing so well, and our stable (稳定的) life started getting shaky. He didn't come home as much as he used to. And when he did come home, it was always late and I'd already be in bed. I started to get 6 . Why didn't he listen to Mum and just stick to his old job? Why does he 7 placing the whole family in trouble? Over the years, I 8 waiting for him to come home, and going downstairs to welcome him.

Now 28, I've graduated from college and got a job. Dad's business has also started to get back on track. Yet the uncomfortable 9 between Dad and me went on.

Two days before my birthday last year, Dad came home early. On that evening, I helped him carry his bags into his study 10 . When I turned to leave, he asked me to clean his comb. I looked at him for a while, then took the comb and headed to the tap.

It was a 11 comb. This one was brown. I hadn't noticed that he'd changed it. After cleaning it, I passed it back to Dad. He looked at it and smiled. But this time, I noticed something 12 . My dad had aged. He had wrinkles next to his eyes when he smiled, yet his smile was still as heartwarming as before.

Doctors are usually busy every day. However, when I was in the primary school, my dream was to become a doctor. In fact, as a little boy, I didn't know1 what doctors did. After I2 , I know what being a doctor means. Doctors play a (n)3 role in saving lives.

My grandfather suffered from cancer (患上癌症) when I was eight years old. At that time, my4 spent much time locking after him. Once she took me to the5 to visit my grandfather. When I got there, I saw my grandfather seemed6 because of the great pain (痛苦).Then I asked my mom about the reason. She told me my grandfather was seriously ill and the doctors were7 to make him get healthy again. At that time, it gave me some hope and I started to believe that doctors always saved lives.

I know it's not8 to be a great doctor, so I'm going to the university for higher 9 and I ' m going to try to be an intern in a hospital to10 myself. I'd like to help those sick people in that way. I hope the world can become better because of great doctors.

 My two best friends and I were playing in the park near my house." Hey, look at that poster," Ollie shouted." The Harvest Fair sounds cool!"

" Yes! But S50 for a ticket?" said Marcya." That's a lot."

 After a while, we headed to my house. When we got home, Dad's friend Isaac came with six free tickets to the Harvest Fair. After Isaac left, Dad said," We have five people in our family. Wo'll have to find someone else who wants to go to the fair."

"I want to go!" said Mareya.

" So do I!" said Ollie.

 It took me one second to go from happy to awkward(尴尬的). Just then, my 80- year- old neighbour, Mrs Nish, came in."I just saw the poster. I love fairs! But tickets aren't cheap now."

 That's when Ollie got an idea. He quietly said something to Mareya, and Mareya told it to me, and I told it to my father.

" Well, we happen to have an extra(多余的) ticket to that fair! Would you like to join us?" my dad asked.

" Really?" Mrs Nish's face lit up." I'd like that very much!"

 Tho fair was fantasist. But the very best part was seeing Mrs Nish laughing. The next weekend, Ollie, Mareya, and I had our own Harvest Fair party at home. We played games and made a big pic while singing along to our favourite band Eagle Daze.

When I was young, my mum always encouraged me to do new things. She often said, "Have a try!" She didn't allow me to 1 at the very beginning until I tried it. Over the years, I have realized my 2 mainly comes from keeping those words in mind.

After leaving university, I started working in a big business （公司）. I just wanted to work for a short time until I decided on my career（职业）. At that time, my attention wasn't on the 3 itself. I thought I would work for several years, get married, stay home and take care of a family. However, I was 4 . I've worked for the same business for 28 years. I've got many chances to 5 different positions （职位） in the business. I've 6 every change of my position. Whether I was doing my daily work or finding new solutions, I liked learning and growing in each position. I've found that I have many talents and skills, because I 7 try new things. I´ve also found that if I put what I 8 into practice and work hard to achieve my dreams, I can succeed.

Today, I am so excited and thankful to become the top of the business. Another 9 has come and I am ready to take it, no matter what difficulty there will be. Thanks to the words "Have a try!", I become 10 enough to take every new challenge.
