A boy was sitting on the steps of a door one day. He had a stick in one hand,1in the other hand a large piece of bread and butter, which somebody had kindly given him. While he was eating it and singing a song happily, he saw a poor little dog quietly2not far from him. He called out to it, “Come here, poor dog!”

    Hearing this, the dog woke up, rose with its ears3and wagged its tail. Seeing the boy eating, it came near him. The boy held out to it a piece of his bread and butter. As the dog stretched out its head to take the4, the boy quickly drew back his hand and hit it5on the nose. The poor dog ran away,6loudly, while the cruel boy sat, laughing at the trick he had done.

    A gentleman, who was looking from a window on the other side of street, saw what the7boy had done. Opening the street door, he called him to8over, at the same time9up one dollar between the finger and thumb.

    “Would you like this?” said the gentleman.

    “Yes, if you10, sir,” said the boy, smiling, and he quickly ran over to seize the11.

    Just as the boy stretched out his hand, the gentleman hit12on the knee with an umbrella. “Why did you do that?” shouted the boy angrily. He made a very13face and cried, “I didn't hurt you, nor ask you for money.”

    “14did you hurt that poor dog just now?” said the gentleman. “It didn't hurt you, nor ask you for bread and butter. As you served it I have served you. Now, remember it can feel as well as you, and learn to behave15towards animals in future.”

The summer holiday is coming. In order to get the children out of the room, the community is going to organize a camp this summer. 

To improve children's health and fitness (健身). Freestyle 360 has some fun fitness classes for children between (在…之间) 9 and 13 years old. We want to help children to do more sports in an easy and relaxing environment.

Henry is a tall and strong man. But he used to be very thin when he was in middle school. Because of this, he 1 by some schoolboys. They made fun of him. His parents were worried 2 him. So he decided to do something 3 this situation in college.

Henry joined a sports club in his college. He stayed in 4 sports club from 6:00p. m. to 8:00  p. m. every day. He lifted light weights (哑铃) at first and then moved on to heavier ones. Every three weeks, he increased the weight he lifted by five 5 . He swam, ran or played basketball every morning. 6 he took exercise, he always drank some milk. It helped him get a lot of energy.

Henry also changed his eating habits. He 7 eating foods such as beef, chicken, eggs and brown rice. Eating these foods made him become healthy and worked 8 .

One year later, Henry wasn't thin any longer. He was strong and 9 laughed at him in college. He felt much 10 than he used to be.

Henry's change encouraged him a lot. He created a program teaching middle school students how to get stronger. He also joined talk shows and wrote books about his experience.

Do you know the marathon (马拉松)? It's a long running race of 42 km. The 2023 Zhuhai Marathon is on November 26th. Over 10,000 runners from across China and the world take part in it. 

It begins at 7:30 AM at Zhuhai Sports Center. The fastest runners begin running first, and the others run behind them. When they are running, they can see some famous places and buildings, such as Zhuhai Library, Zhuhai Opera House, and Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. It ends at Lvyangwan, a beautiful beach park. 

It takes the winners about 2 hours to finish the race. Most people need 3 or 4 hours. Many families bring their kids to join in the running. They only run 6 km. They just run for fun, so people call it Fun Run. 

Running makes the runners sweat a lot. Along the way, they pick up cups of water to drink or to pour over their heads, to cool down. It's good for them to eat some bread, rice and potatoes after the race.

A man left the airport(机场). There were many taxis. He asked every driver's name and he took the third one. It cost him $5 to go from the airport to the hotel. Then the man asked the driver to show him around the city for a whole day. For this task, the driver wanted $100. It was too much, but the man said nothing and agreed(同意). 

 The driver took the man to many places happily. 

 In the evening, they went back to the hotel. The man gave $100 to the driver and asked for another day of driving. It was another $100. The driver was very happy to be getting more money than before. 

 The next day, they went to the same places again. In the evening, the driver got his money, but he felt guilty(内疚的). He liked the man and 100 dollars a day was expensive. Finally the man's trip was coming to an end. 

"So you are going home. Where are you from?"

"I come from Kenova, Wayne County, in West Virginia. "

"Kenova?" said the driver. "I have a sister there. Her name is Susan Miller. Do you know her?"

"Yes, she asked me to give you 200 dollars!"
