Guide dogs have long acted as the "eyes" of (失明的) people. They can't get around w the help of a well-trained guide dog. Training guide dogs is a difficult (任务) , but thanks to The Seeing Eye, we're able to get the most out of the four-legged friends.
The Seeing Eye is the world's o guide dog school. They began to raise and train lots of guide dogs in 1929.
When Seeing Eye dogs are seven or eight weeks, they are sent to the homes of volunteer — Dog Raiser(抚养者). They teach the dogs (基本的) manners and commands(要求), and take them outside on streets and public transport.
When the dogs are 13 to 19 months old, the raisers (返还) them to The Seeing Eye. Each dog is assigned (分配) to a trainer with wthey will train for four months.
Once the four-month training (结束) , the trainer will train the dogs with their new owners(主人) for 18 to 25 days.
"Training a guide dog requires lots of work and (耐心), but it's well worth the
(精力) ," says Emily Foster, who works for The Seeing Eye. "I feel happy every time I see a working guide dog in the street."
