Rock climbing(攀岩)did not become a sport until in the late 19^th century. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} 

While rock climbing may still be necessary for mountain climbing, most people just climb low mountains for fun.

    If you have ever done rock climbing, you will know that it is not a very easy sport. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} What most people don't know is that rock climbing is one of the sports that depend on your body and mind(意志).

    To climb successfully, one must use wonderful skills. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Another important rule is that your arms only hold you close to the rock face while your legs are pushing you up. The closer you are to the rock face, the easier it is to climb.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#} Once you start to learn how to climb, you'll find more fun. People who like games such as chess playing or problem—solving may love rock climbing, because they are nearly the same in the way of thinking. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} Anyone who enjoys a difficult game and loves the outdoors should think of taking rock climbing as a new hobby.

    Emilyand Alex were happy when their family moved to a house with a very big garden. Theycould climb up trees, grow flowers and even play badminton. They liked to watchthe birds flying among the trees in the garden. They even started to put food outto attract（吸引）more birds.

    Everythingwas fine for a few days until one afternoon there was a strange bumping noise ona window. Emily went outside and found a small bird dead on the grass. Its neckseemed to be broken.

    "Itmust have flown into the window," Alex said when his sister Emily called himto have a look. "Ah, yes, look here. You can see the mark where it hit thewindow. There are a couple of tiny feathers stuck(粘贴) on the window."

    "Poorthing!" Emily said.

    Duringthe next month, another five birds died in the same way. "Why would they flyto the windows?" they wondered. Finally they found out the truth. When thebirds were flying, they couldn't see into the rooms. All they saw was the reflection(反射) of the garden. They thought that they were flying into trees becausethey saw trees reflected by the window.

    "Somethinghas to be done to save the birds." the parents decided.

    At first,he family tried keeping curtains（窗帘）across the windows, but thismade the room dark. Then they bought some strong black paper and cut out the shapeof ahawk. They made six hawks—one for each window. They stuck the hawks to the windows. They lookedpretty and did not keep out much light. When the birds saw the hawks, they wouldfly away.

    Afterthat, there were no more dead birds. The family were much happier.

When I was about fourteen , I had a lot of freckles(雀斑). I was so upset. I tried different ways to cover the freckles, but my mother would shake her head and say ,"▲"I felt sad hearing it .

My cousin Jessica had a peaches and cream complexion(白里透红的肤色) I couldn't help thinking that my life would be a lot different if I had a beautiful face too.

And then, in a magazine I found an advertisement(广告) for a freckle removal cream(祛斑霜) knew that I could afford it if I saved my money and I did . For three weeks I went to the mailbox every day exactly at the time the mail arrived.

Finally, I got the magical cream and I couldn't wait to try it on my face . Later that day I went to work on the farm. But if you apply it in the sun, it seems to make your skin worse. Instead of developing a clear complexion, you just get more and darker freckles.

By the end the day when I came back to the house, my family began to say things like," I have never seen you with that many freckles "When I saw myself in the mirror, I cried and hid in the bathroom .

When my grandfather came to see what was wrong with me I told him about the story of the freckle removal cream. Grandpa didn't understand, so I tried to explain why I didn't want to have freckles . He looked at me in surprise and said, "But my child, there are all kinds of flowers, and they are all beautiful." I said," I have never seen a flower with freckles ! "Then I ran back to my room.

When I opened my eyes the next morning, the first thing I saw was a tiger lily—a beautiful flower with freckles. I didn't know where Grandpa found it. Looking at it , I was lost in thought ...

 It's 2: 30 in the afternoon. The house is quiet(安静的)." Tom?" Mom says. No one answers.

 Mom comes to Tom's room. He is not on the bed, but his model plane is on the desk." He is not in his room, and he is not in the yard, " Mom thinks. Then Mom comes to his grandparents' room. Tom likes to play with his grandpa's tape player, but he is not there.

 Mom looks for Tom everywhere. Where is Tom? Mom is worried. She wants to call Dad. She comes to the living room to get the phone.

" What's that? " Mom sees something black under the sofa. Oh, it's Eric, Tom's dog. It loves sleeping there. What is next to Eric? It's Tom!
