Why do you remember Hello Kitty, Snoopy and all the other playful animals? What makes you love them? Well, maybe because they're like the people around you. Think about it! You may just find a friend or classmate who is like them. Is he or she:

As sweet as Hello Kitty: She likes to eat cakes. She loves to make new friends. She asks friends to her tea parties. She is warm and sunny and will always help you.

As clever as Snoopy: He goes to middle school when he is nine. He learns to use something quickly! He thinks a lot. He is so clever that you like to be with him.

As sarcastic (讽刺的) as Garfield: He sits happily in the seat and says sharp words to you. Sometimes he is not nice. He doesn't really like you? He thinks you're a fool? No, in his heart, he loves you. He is a friend with hard words but a warm heart.

As naughty as Mashimaro: He doesn't look like a good boy. He has sleepy eyes and looks naughty. He always plays tricks on people. So you get angry with him and don't like him very much. His mind is active and full of ideas. He tries to catch your eye. But, he's still a child.

Zhou Chu was born about 1, 700 year ago. He was tall and strong. However, he had a bad temp er （脾气）. He had lots of bad 1 . Everyone was afraid of him. They tried not to talk to him.

Slowly he started to feel 2 .

One day, Zhou Chu saw some old men talking in the street. He went up and asked, "Hey! Why are you looking so 3 ?"

One man replied, "We are worrying about three evils（魔鬼）around."

"Oh! Tell me and I'll 4 them!" Zhou Chu waved his arms to show his strength（力量）.

"Well," said 5 man, "first, there is a tiger in the South Mountain. It often takes away our animals and even 6 people. Then there is a flood dragon 7 the bridge. It often makes big waves（浪）, breaks our 8 and kills many people."

"So, what's the third one?

The men looked at each other, but 9 spoke.

"What is the third evil?"

Zhou Chu shouted 10 .

One men said, "It's you!"

"Me?" Zhou Chu was very angry.

The mans said, "You are 11 doing bad things! Are you different from the tiger or the flood dragon?"

Zhou Chu's 12 burned with shame（羞愧）. He said to himself, "I 13 stop acting like this. I'll get rid of（除掉）all the three evils!"

The next day, Zhou Chu found the big tiger and killed it. Then he went for the flood dragon. They 14 in the river for three days. Finally, he killed it.

From then on, Zhou Chu got 15 changed. With hard work, he became a famous man and was loved by people.

A marathon is a long running race of 26.2 miles (42.195 kilometres). The first Olympic Marathon was held in Athens. Now, many cities host their own marathons every year. Some of the best- known marathons around the world are the New York City Marathon, the Boston Marathon and the Tokyo Marathon. Among them, the Boston Marathon which started in 1897, is the oldest yearly marathon in the world. As time goes by, the sport has become more than just a race.

Themes of marathons add fun and meaning to the hard miles. Runners run for helping sick kids, celebrating important events, or just enjoying nature. There is a famous marathon in Gisborne, New Zealand, which is known for being the first city in the world to welcome the sunlight every day. Runners can greet the sunrise as they race along the golden sandy beaches.

Marathon routes bring people more understanding of the old sport. Some routes provide great sporting challenges for runners. The routes offer various surfaces, from bridges to sand to hills. Runners of all skill levels can sweat freely and push their limits in the race. Some routes are well planned for runners to explore the many sides of a city. For example, the route of the Great Wall Marathon takes the runners along the great wonder of the world. The race can be an amazing chance to get to know Beijing, its people and local food.

A marathon is quite a journey for runners to enjoy the run, challenge themselves and experience the culture. There is so much more behind the race for us to explore.

Silent love

Along a mountain road, a handsome young man walks fast.{#blank#}1{#/blank#} older man with a strict face follows him. This is {#blank#}2{#/blank#} my favourite film, Postmen in the Mountains. It's a touching story about the love {#blank#}3{#/blank#} father and son. 

For years, the father {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(serve) as the postman for this area. He was often absent {#blank#}5{#/blank#} home and the son seldom saw him. But now the son {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(take) over his father's position. The father goes with him {#blank#}7{#/blank#} his first day of work. Along the way, they start to see into each {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(other) hearts. 

For the first time, the son{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(carry) his father across a cold river. It brings back the father's memory of {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(carry) the son on his back.{#blank#}11{#/blank#}(tear) quietly run down his face. 

This film shows a {#blank#}12{#/blank#}(tradition) Chinese father. He is happy about {#blank#}13{#/blank#}(he) son's growth. {#blank#}14{#/blank#} he just hides his care in his heart. He doesn't give hugs or {#blank#}15{#/blank#}(kiss) to his son. His love may be silent. But like a mountain, it is always there. 

My sister Lily likes love movies. She always watches them. Her favorite movie is The Twilight. I never watch love movies. I think they are boring. I like action movies best. They are exciting. Mom likes music programs. The band she likes best is the Jonas Brothers. I like it, too. I watch talent shows with mom every Friday. Dad only watches the news. He says it's very relaxing. He doesn't like other programs. My brother Bob likes western movies best. He thinks cowboys (牛仔) and horses are wonderful.

My mother's favorite TV program is Nature News. She always watches it and she sometimes asks me to watch nature programs with her, but I think they are boring. My father watches a football game on TV at 7:00 p.m. every Wednesday. I don't like it, but my father likes it very much. He also likes the news. My sister Tina's favorite program is a game show. She thinks it's fun and she watches it every Saturday. I like cartoons best. I find them very interesting.

Animals also need water to stay healthy. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} horses nor birds can live without water. So {#blank#}4{#/blank#} of us shouldn't use it well.
