Peng Yixuan is a young reporter. Last November, she went to San Francisco. She took a bartering (物物交换)journey on the city's streets. 

Peng started her journey with a panda doll(玩偶). She wanted to exchange(交换)it with the people to see what this doll would turn into in the end. She met a woman first. She showed the woman her panda doll and said that she wanted to do an exchange. The woman gladly agreed and gave her a model of a San Francisco cable car. She told Peng that the cable car is a symbol of San Francisco. 

Then, Peng continued her journey. She met different people, and they exchanged their things with Peng. Every time, Peng got a different thing. Finally, she got a ship ticket. 

Peng shared her journey online and it got many likes. They all thought the bartering was interesting and meaningful. At the same time, the friendly people's best wishes touched many people. For example, a woman gave Peng a box of glue ( 胶 水 )and said that people should be able to stick together and be better friends. 

Peng said many good relationships start and keep with exchanges—we exchange things, ideas, or experiences. Then we can join hands to face the difficulties and solve all kinds of problems in the world. 

① Arat Montoya, 36, lives in West Linn, a city in the US. He is from a family of bakers. But he doesn't like making bread. When his father asked him to follow the family tradition, Montoya said, "I'm sorry, Dad. I love dogs. " he said.

④ It shows that the doggie day care service is a great business(生意) idea. Montoya loves taking care of those dogs. And the dogs love going to" school". The most important is that the dogs' owners speak highly of Montoya and his business. All of them are happy about this doggie day care service. 

⑤Now, more than 300 owners ask Montoya to take care of their dogs. "I'm the happiest man in the world, " Montoya said. " Doing what I like truly makes me happy. "

Once upon a time, a wise Greek man named Thales came to Egypt. Thales was good at maths. He also loved solving puzzles and finding out how things worked. One day, he visited the Great Pyramid. It was the tallest building he had ever seen. After enjoying its beauty, he wondered how tall the pyramid was. He asked the locals, but nobody knew.

Thales thought about this question day and night. One night, when he was enjoying the moonlight, he came to realize that everything has a shadow when the sun shines. An idea hit him," If I can measure(测量) the pyramid's shadow, I can figure out its height!"

So, Thales waited patiently until the sun was just right. He stood next to the pyramid and measured his own shadow. Then, he measured the pyramid's shadow. Thales was about 6 feet tall, and his shadow was 2 feet long. The ratio(比例) was 3:1. The pyramid's shadow was much longer, about 120 feet. Thales realized that the pyramid's height equals 120 multiplied by 3.

Finally, at lunchtime, Thales declared the Great Pyramid's height—____ feet. Everyone was amazed. Thales used his wisdom to solve the puzzle.

①As a kind of traditional Chinese art, paper cutting has a long history. The first and earliest paper cutting was found in China about 1,500 years ago. But the traditional art is at risk of disappearing （消失） now. Luckily, Voyo Woo, a Chinese immigrant （移民）, is trying to bring the art back to life.

②Ms Woo began to study paper cutting as a 14-year-old girl in her hometown in China. She said all the students at school had to learn paper cutting. But she had a deep love for it. So her teacher spent more time teaching her after class. Later, she won second prize in a national painting and calligraphy （书法） competition. Ms Woo went to America after she finished college in 2008. Soon after that, she took part in an activity to promote Chinese paper cutting. And then she was invited to show the art in many important activities. "It is important to promote the art to Americans or anyone who is interested in it. Maybe it will make the art more popular." Woo said.

③From paper cutting, people can know about Chinese cultural values, history and stories of people's life. Ms Woo uses the art as a tool to show Chinese culture to the people who know little about it. Chinese art is not only for Chinese, but also for people all over the world.

Last Friday, after doing all the family shopping in the town, I felt really 1 . So I wanted to have a rest 2 catching the rain. I3 a newspaper and some chocolate and went into the station4 shop. It was a cheap self-service place with long tables to sit at. I put my heavy bag down on the floor, put the newspaper and the chocolate on the 5 and then went to get a cup of coffee. 

When I came back with the coffee, there was 6 sitting in the next seat. It was a boy, with dark glasses and old clothes, and colored bright red at the front. To my surprise, he had started to eat my chocolate!

①Hello, everyone. My name is Zhang Peng. Last week, our school had a special activity for us. We visited some real-life workplaces, like banks, hospitals and museums. The activity had 27 different programs, with each program showing one job. We all had great fun and many students found their dream jobs.
