Dear August,

Welcome to the world! Your mom and I are so excited to see who you will become. When your sister was born, we wrote a letter about the world in which we hoped she, and now you, will grow up-a world with better education, fewer health problems, stronger communities, and a greater society. We wrote that with all the improvement in science and technology, your generation(一代) should live much better lives than ours. Even though headlines (头条) are often about what's wrong, we still believe these hopeful wishes will win out, and we have duties to do our part to make that happen. We're optimists(乐观主义者) about your generation and the future.

But rather than write about growing up, we want to talk about the childhood. The world can be a serious place. That's why it's important to make time to go outside and play. You will be busy when you are older, so I hope you take time to smell all the flowers and collect all the leaves you like in your basket. I hope you read your favorite Dr. Seuss' books now and then before you start inventing your own stories about the Vipper of Vipp. I hope you ride the carousel(旋转木马) with Max until you've tried every color horse. I hope you run as much as you want around our living room and yard. And then I hope you take a lot of naps to be a great sleeper. And I hope even in your dreams you can feel how much we love you.

Childhood is magical. You only get to be a child once,  ▲ . You've got us for that, and we'll do everything we possibly can to make sure the world is a better place for you and all children in your generation.

August, we love you so much and we're so excited to be with you. We wish you a life of happiness, love and the same hope you give us.

In America, there are chores for children of different ages. American people think it's important to tell children their duty in the family. They think that a 2-year-old child is never too young to do chores. If you have no ideas, use this list of age chores for your children. 

Schools change PE classes to help students recover* from COVID-19*.

On March 17, Beijing made changes to the PE test in the 2023 zhongkao: All students will get good scores if they take the exam. 

Some cities such as Taiyuan canceled* the 1, 000-meter and 800-meter runs. Other cities like Wenzhou let students choose if they would like to run in the exam. This is to make it safe for students after recovering from COVID-19.

Knowing about your health

At the start of the term, every student in Xi'an Jingkai No. 3 Middle School did a survey*. 

The questions were:

●How many days did it take you to recover?

"The school wants to make a plan for the PE classes according to students' health. "said their PE teacher Liu Na. "Students feel differently after COVID-19. Some get tired easily, so we keepan eye on each student's feelings. "Liu said. 

"Students in Grade Nine are happy because they don't need to take the 1, 000-meter run test for zhongkao. Most students welcome this new change. But some students are really good atrunning, they are not happy because they won't have advantages anymore, "Liu added. 

Students now are having easier exercise such as dancing, fun games, sit-ups and walking. So they can improve* their health slowly. What is your PE class like now?

This term, Xiao Yang has a new subject— geography, but he doesn't like it. "It's not useful at all, " he thinks. So he always plays games in class. 

 Mr. Wang is his geography teacher. . He is nice to the students in his class. One day, he finds Xiao Yang isn't interested in his class. He comes to Xiao Yang's desk and asks, "Hi, Xiao Yang. Where are you from?"

"I'm from Sichuan, Mr. Wang. "

"Oh, that's a nice place! Can I ask you some questions?"

"Sure. "

"Why are there many mountains in Sichuan? Where does Jialing River start? And why is it so hot in Chengdu from July to September?"

"I'm sorry, Mr. Wang. I don't know, "Xiao Yang says. 

"Do you want to know?" Mr. Wang asks. 

"Yes, Mr. Wang. But how?"

"Well, you see, your games can't help you, but geography can. So now let's start the lesson, OK?"

"It's hard to say this, but I' ll have to leave school in a few weeks' time," said Mr Thomas, standing at the front of the classroom.

It was early on Monday morning and Mr Thomas' students were shocked(震惊的) at the news.All of them loved Mr Thomas very much and they never thought that he might leave.However, Mr Thomas reached the age when he was going to retire.After hearing the news, the class kept gloomy for the next few days until the class monitor gave them a small scolding(训斥).

"We should not be like this," she said."Instead(反而), we should study hard to thank Mr Thomas for being so good to us." The class agreed, and they thought of an idea of having a farewell(送别的) party for Mr Thomas to surprise him.

On Mr Thomas' last day at school, everybody brought a different kind of delicious finger food to class and put it in the middle of the classroom.They covered the blackboard with farewell messages.When Mr Thomas showed up, all the students said "Goodbye, dear teacher!" together and promised Mr Thomas that they would do their best in schoolwork in the future.

Mr Thomas was really surprised.And he was really touched.The class, in turn, was glad that they did the right thing.After all, it was the simplest way to show thanks to their favourite teacher.
