Something unexpected happenedin the summer of my eleventh year. The home I had grown up in burned to the groundin the middle of the night. Thankfully, my mom, dad, grandma, brothers and I escapedalong with my dogs. Yet, we had nothing but the night clothes we were sleeping in.I spent the rest of that night with a friend of my family. I tried unsuccessfullyto sleep in the bed in his house. I was too scared.

    The next day my mom brought me a few T-shirtsand pairs of jeans that another friend gave to her. One pair of them was too shortand the other pair was too long, but I didn't care. At least I had some clothesagain. My dad returned to our broken home to see what he could find. The only thinghe could save was my mom's rings.

    To spend the summery dad rented us a big houseon the same road as our old house had been. As we moved in, our friends and ourcommunity continued todonate (捐赠) all they could to help us to get back on our feet. There were moreclothes, furniture, food money, and even some books for me to read. Love was aroundus.

    Looking back now I am thankful for all we wentthrough that summer because it taught me so much about life, love and people. Itshowed me that when you have nothing left but love, for the first time you see thatlove is enough.

On May 15, 2023, the Activity of Choosing People Who Moved Liangshan（凉山） in 2022 was held in Xichang. Ten people  {#blank#}1{#/blank#}  the proud prize. Among them was Lou Se'er whose four children got into the famous universities in China. Two of them are studying in Tsinghua University. He was given a special prize by the government on October 31st, 2022. It's impossible for him to get such special prizes  {#blank#}2{#/blank#} the great effort.

Luo and his wife live in a small mountain village in Butuo. They have a common and hard life as most other  {#blank#}3{#/blank#} in their neighborhood. They have little education, but how can they bring up four excellent children? Luo told reporters about his "secrets of  {#blank#}4{#/blank#}  education." "I hope my children can get more education and have a better future." said Luo. "My wife and I faced lots of challenges and difficulties. We don't know  {#blank#}5{#/blank#} to read or write. We can hardly count."

They  {#blank#}6{#/blank#}  realized the importance of education for their children. They made up their minds  {#blank#}7{#/blank#}  them to good schools. They can't help their children with studying at home during weekends, summer and winter vacations. The children have to learn by  {#blank#}8{#/blank#}  and sometimes the elder brothers helped their younger brother and sister. They studied very hard and made great progress in examinations. "My all children are in good universities. In fact, there is no  {#blank#}9{#/blank#} . It's just a wholehearted decision, I together with my wife will support them all the time as long as they need. We think hard work plays a very  {#blank#}10{#/blank#} role towards success." added Luo.

Many people are touched by the story about the poor family—parents with little education and four  {#blank#}11{#/blank#}  children. They believe that the Luos' life must become better and better.

Wonderful Park has finally reopened after nearly three months of repair! Since my sister Julia's birthday is coming, yesterday my parents took us to the park to have some fun. Julia was very excited as she had never been to Wonderful Park before.

We arrived at the park early in the morning. While we were buying tickets at the ticket office, Julia was told that she could enjoy free admission during her birthday month. She could also get some pin s and stickers for free. Julia was over the moon with her birthday presents. After buying our tickets, Julia wanted to ride the Ferris wheel. However, Mum suggested going to the King's Theatre first as a musical was about to begin.

We were attracted by the delicious smell of popcorn while we were on the way to the King's Theatre. We bought two bags of chocolate popcorn and it tasted good. Before we entered the theatre, there were two cartoon characters standing at the entrance. They were lovable so Julia and I took some photos with them. The show began at ten forty-five. Though I am not a big fan of musicals, it was really great. All the performers sang and danced well. There was a huge round of applause (掌声) when the show ended. Then, we went to the ride. It was the last stop and also the most enjoyable part of our trip.

Here are the photos we took. The first one shows the chocolate popcorn. It was yummy! Next are the photos we took at the entrance of the King's Theatre. The cartoon characters are giving me and Julia a big hug! Here comes the photo that J like best. We took this after we rode on the Ferris wheel. Dad is putting his arm around Mum's shoulders. Julia is making a V sign with her fingers and I am making a silly face. It is a nice family photo. We all look forward to visiting the park again!

①You have probably eaten a hot dog, but have you ever seen a sundog? This isn't your pet dog napping(打瞌睡) in the sun!

②A sundog is a weather event that causes two bright bursts of rainbow colored light to appear on either side of the sun. You would see them around 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock. Sundogs can be very beautiful, with a red glow closest to the sun and a white in the center. The scientific name for sundogs is "parhelia", which comes from a Greek word meaning "beside the sun. "

③Conditions need to be just right for sundogs to appear. Sunlight passes through high clouds that spread out like feathers in front of the sun. These clouds contain flat, six-sided ice crystals (晶体). If the crystal drifts toward the ground, with the larger face facing the Earth, light is refracted (折射). These crystals then separate the light, forming a sundog. 

④Sundogs can be seen during any season but are most often seen during the winter months when the sun is lower in the sky. You are also more likely to see them early or late in the day, when the sun is near the horizon. Sundogs have been spotted around the world, across North America, Europe, and Asia, at the South Pole and in the far north. Scientists have even predicted what sundogs might look like on other planets. 

⑤Throughout history, sundogs have been used to predict weather because they indicate snow or rain on its way. Some people believed that sundogs were a sign of good luck, while others saw them as a warning from God. Shakespeare described sundogs in poems as frightening. 

⑥Ready to try out your weather detective skills? First, use your hand to block the center of the sun to protect your eyes. Search for clouds in a winter sky and a circle or burst of light around the sun. Be sure to show off your sundog smarts to your friends and family—you'll be their top dog!
