I'm Lucy from New York. But now I'm in Beijing with my parents. They are doctors and they love their jobs. I am a student and I love my school, too. School is a good place for me. I can do many things there.

I can learn a lot at school. I learn Chinese, math, science and English every day. Also, I can have fun at school. I often listen to music with my classmates. Sometimes, I talk about favorite movies and TV shows with them.

But sometimes I am not happy at school because there are too many activities and they always make me tired.

School is like my second family, and my classmates are like my brothers and sisters. The school is really a big and happy family.

A little stream(小溪) ran down from a high mountain through many villages and forests. Then it reached a desert(沙漠)."I went through so many {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(difficulty). I should have no problem {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(cross) the desert,"she thought. As she started, she found  {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(her) slowly vanishing(消失)into the sand. After many tries, she still failed."Maybe I can't reach the ocean,"she said {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(sad) to herself.

At this time, a deep voice said, "{#blank#}5{#/blank#} the wind can cross the desert, a river can also do it."It was the voice of the desert. But the little stream answered,"That's because the wind can fly, but I can't.""That's because you can't give up {#blank#}6{#/blank#} you are. Let yourself evaporate(蒸发) into the wind and it can take you across me,"said the desert."Give up what I am now? No! No!"The little stream could not accept that."The wind can carry the vapor(水蒸气) across the desert and let it leave as rain. The rain will form a river again,"said the desert."And whether you're a river or vapor, your nature never changes."{#blank#}7{#/blank#}hearing this, the little stream went into the open arms of the wind. It {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(carry) her to the next stage of her life.

The course of our lives is just like {#blank#}9{#/blank#} experience of the little stream. If you want to go through difficulties in your life {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (become) successful, you should also change the way you are.

Confidence is very important in daily life. It can help you to develop a healthy attitude (态度). A study shows that the people who are more confident are much happier. They can have more chances to make themselves successful. But how to be more confident? Here are some suggestions: 

Speak loud 

When you are not confident, you can't do well what you want to do. You speak in such a low voice that other people can hardly hear you. Try to speak loud enough so that people can hear you clearly. The high voice can help you become more confident. 

Play sports 

Physical exercise makes you tired but completely relaxed. A strong body helps you be full of confidence. 

Encourage yourself Write down a list of things you did during the day to see how many things you have done well. Did you finish your homework? Did you tell a joke that made everybody happy? Give yourself praise for the good things you've done. 

 Get rid of (消除) fear 

Fear comes along with failure (失败). But it's easy to overcome (克服) if you know that failure is part of your life. Don't hide your head just because you said something stupid last time. Try to start again and believe you can do better. 

Pick up a hobby 

If you like singing, sing as much as you can. In some ways, a hobby can make you outstanding. And it will make you happy and confident. 

A boy had lots of bad habits. His father had no idea about 1 to do, so he couldn't help   his son. Then he asked an old man for 2

 The old man said 3 but took the son for a walk through a hill. There were lots of plants on it. The old man stopped in front of a small plant growing in the 4 and told the boy to pull(拉) it out. The boy held(抓住) the* plant. and 5 pulled it out. It was a piece of cake. The old man then asked him to pull out a bigger plant. The boy pulled hard and the plant came out. He was happy and 6 to pull out another one. The old man just pointed to the smallest one. For the boy, it was like a match and 7 didn't want to lose. That's why he tried to 8 as hard as he could.

9 , the old man, pointing to a big tree, said, " Now pull this one out." The boy tried hard but the tree didn't 10 ." It's not possible. No one can make it." said the boy tiredly.

" Boy, the plants are just like your bad 11 ," said the old man." When they are 12 , it is easy to pull them out, 13 when they get old, they can't be controlled(控制)." The old man's words made the boy think a lot and change his life.

Accidents happen every year. They are very common. Most of the accidents happen{#blank#}1{#/blank#} of careless driving. The drivers don't follow the traffic rules strictly. Every year, many people die in the traffic accidents.

One day, I {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(travel) with my brother on our bike when the traffic was very heavy. There I saw {#blank#}3{#/blank#} accident. A man behind us {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(drive) his car very fast at that time. A bus {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(appear) from the other side while a small boy was crossing the road.{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(save) the child, the bus ran into the car. 

Soon many people got together there. Some of them tried {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(help) the car driver. Others took the man {#blank#}8{#/blank#} the hospital at once. {#blank#}9{#/blank#}, the car driver died the next morning. It was a great loss (损失) to that family. 

Thus (因此), we should follow the traffic rules strictly. We should be careful while we {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(walk) across the road. Then we can cut down the risk of accidents.

I will always admire(钦佩) my father and his belief. 

As I held my father's hands one night, I couldn't help but notice their calluses(老茧) and roughness(粗糙). His hands tell the story of his life as a 1 . 

One summer, a drought (干旱) hit Ontario, turning it into a burning desert. On one of those hot 2 , I was picking sweet corn with my dad to fill the last order from the grocery store. Fifty dozen was all we needed, which 3 took twenty minutes. That morning, however, the work didn't go 4 . After forty minutes of walking in the field, we still needed twenty dozen. I was completely impatient and angry. 5 the basket heavily, I said, "If the store wants its last twenty dozen, they can pick it themselves!" Dad laughed. "Just think, my little girl, only 6 dozen left for each of us and then we're done. " Such is Dad--whatever problem he 7 , he never gives up.
