A recent TV series To the Wonder has become China's breakout TV hit of the year. It has also won praise at a film festival abroad. To the Wonderis based on the award-winning novel of Li Juan, My Altay, and is directed by Teng Congcong. It is very poetic and filled with beautiful wisdom. 

The TV drama follows the journey of Li Wenxiu. She once wished to leave Altay, an area in Northern Xinjiang. After failing to realize her dream in the capital of Xinjiang, Li has to move back to her hometown and tries to find a new direction for herself. At first, Li finds it hard to understand her neighbours' traditional way of thinking. Under the influence of her mother Zhang Fengxia, Li starts to see the place and its people in a new light. Later, she comes to understand their lifestyle and respect for nature. 

Fans describe watching the drama as an experience in the wonderland. "It's like breathing in fresh air or lying under the sun," said one fan. "It is a unique drama, very different from the usual Chinese series. A must-watch if you want to discover the beauty of the grassland and life there," another fan said.

Last Sunday, Mark's grandma invited him to her pottery studio (陶器工作室). He was excited, because Grandma didn't give her other grandsons such an invitation. 

As soon as Mark stepped into the studio, he began to look forward to putting his hands into some wet clay (粘土) and placing his bowl into the hot kiln (窑). "Be careful with that," Grandma said as Mark picked up one of her bowls. The boy carefully put the bowl back on the table. Then Grandma showed him some of her bowls and asked him to make one himself. Mark started happily. 

However, five hours later, Mark was sad. His first bowl, a blue one, looked more like a rock. His second bowl, a red one, was hardly any better. "I'll never make it!" Mark said angrily, looking at his work. 

Hearing this, Grandma stopped what she was doing and went to Mark. After seeing what he had made, she said, "Don't worry. You just need to be more patient." She sat next to Mark and helped him with his work. About one and a half hours later, they finished making a beautiful yellow bowl together. 

Mark was happy when he looked at his work. "Thanks," he said to Grandma. Grandma looked at him and smiled. "You're great. Remember not to give up easily no matter what you do in the future," she said. Mark said he would follow Grandma's words.

When there's a fire, leave the classroom quickly. It's better to put something wet over your mouth and nose. In this way, you won't breath in smoke. Many people die in the fire, not because of the fire but smoke. It makes them cough and they can't breathe. That's very dangerous! So when you want to get out, you should make yourself close to the floor. Then you can breathe some fresh air.

One night, the manager of a big company needed to call one of his workers, because there was  a serious problem with their main computer system. And the worker was the only person who could solve it.

 He dialed the worker's home phone number and the phone was picked up with a little girl's whisper(低语)." Hello?" the manager asked." Is your daddy at home?"" Yes," whispered a small voice." May I talk with him?" the man asked. To his surprise, the small voice whispered," No."

 Then the manager asked," Is your mommy there?"" Yes," came the answer." May I talk with her?" Again, the small voice whispered," No."

 Knowing that it was impossible that a young child would be left home alone, the manager decided he would just leave a message to the person who should be there watching over the child." Is there anyone beside you?" the manager asked the child." Yes," whispered the child."A policeman."

 Having no idea what a policeman would be doing at his worker's house, the manager asked," May I speak with the policeman?"

" No, he's busy!" whispered the child." Busy doing what?" asked the manager." Talking to daddy and mommy," came the whispered answer.

 Growing more and more worried as he heard something like a helicopter(直升机) through the phone, the manager asked," What is the noise?""A helicopter," answered the whispered voice." What is going on there?" asked the manager, alarmed.

 In a serious whispering voice, the child answered," The search team has just landed the helicopter." Surprised and worried, the manager asked," Why are they there?" Still whispering, the young voice replied," They are looking for me."

 Xue Wei, a 21-year-old boy, studies at Huanggang Normal University in Huanggang City, Hubei Province. At first, he wanted to study at school on the May Day holiday of 2024. But he got into some difficulties. He felt unhappy and missed his family, so he made a decision to go home.

 On the early morning of May 1st, he got on the green train. After nearly nine hours, he finally went back to his home in Shiyan City, Hubei Province.

 Xue's family needs firewood to cook and warm in winter. To get lots of firewood for his family to use, Xuc and his father went to the mountains to look for wood on May 2nd. Because some workers just built a reservoir(水库) near his house, there was a lot of wood left there. Xue and his father carried the wood home.

 In the next days, they first cut the wood into small ones and put the wood next to the back wall. "In fact, the most tiring part is not chopping(劈) wood, but carrying wood home, because it is wet and heavy," Xue said.

 In the end, Xue and his father chopped about 900 kilograms of firewood. Xue recorded(记录) the moment when he and his father were working. After he shared the short videos online on the way to school on May 5th, they became popular. Many people said, "This is the true meaning of Labor Day." As for Xue, he was happy to do something to help his family during the holiday.
