Teens will finally grow up some day, leaving their parents and facing life's difficulties alone, so they should learn basic (基本的) life skills and develop good working habits.

The government (政府) has been trying to pay attention to (关注) the importance of hard-working spirit education(劳动教育). But it seems that people haven't cared much about it in recent years. Many teens do not value (重视) the

importance of working hard. There is a teenage girl named Nancy. She never helps out around the house. Once her mother was on vacation for a week, leaving her alone at home. When her mother came home from vacation, she could not find a clean dish or a clean shirt.

Schools play an important role in teaching students about the value of working hard, Primary and middle schools should provide students with courses on hard-working spirit every week. To our joy, some schools have provided each class with a small place outside to plant their favorite vegetables. For example, No.38 Middle School in Hefei, set up a 500-square-meter farm on an open platform (露天平台) of their teaching building. Each class is asked to grow and pick vegetables there.

However, a focus on the learner alone misses the basically social nature of language. It is a bit like discussing the advantages of close relationship to heart health but turning a blind eye to the inner value of those bonds themselves. When you try to ask directions in broken Japanese or make a joke in simple German, you are making direct communication with someone. And when you speak a language well enough to tell a story with perfect timing or put stress on an argument, that connection is till deeper.
