As an engineer, I've spent years living in Beijing. But I haven't had many truly outdoor experiences. However,{#blank#}1{#/blank#} trip to Nanshan Skiing Village gave me some unforgettable memories.

As my friend and I sat together, I felt for the{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(one) time that I had truly left the busy life of Beijing. Hanging up in the air a few{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(meter) off the ground, I took in the wide view of the countryside and enjoyed the peace.

My friends had already started making their way down the hill. And I was about {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(join) them but suddenly felt afraid as I found how easy it was to pick up speed. I tried to turn to the side to slow down, but I ended up{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(fall) down into the snow instead. However, I was not ready to give{#blank#}6{#/blank#} and pulled myself together. I worked hard to make{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(I) way to one of the starting points.

{#blank#}8{#/blank#} I still felt nervous,I made some progress after failing to slow down a few times. I was able to ski {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(well) and faster.

By the day's end, I have learned by accepting what seems scary, and find both{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(confident) and peace. I have also understood what it meant to take risks and get out of my comfort zone(舒适区).

Wangari Maathai, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, was born on April 1, 1940, in Kenya. Growing up in the countryside, Wangari was deeply connected to the land from an early age. This early experience with the environment later inspired her life's work, which has left an unforgettable mark on the world. 

With the help of a program, Wangari received her university education in the United States. After graduation, she returned to Kenya. In 1971, she got a doctor's degree from the University of Nairobi, becoming the first woman doctor in East and Central Africa. But her greater achievement was outside the university. In 1977, Wangari set up the Green Belt Movement, an organization focused on tree planting, environmental protection, and women's rights. She called on Kenyan women to plant trees in their hometown. This simple act not only helped to protect the environment but also made women powerful economically and socially. 

Wangari focused not only on environmental problems. She made great efforts to fight for democracy （民主）, human rights, and social fairness. Her activism（激进主义） often put her in disagreement with the Kenyan government. As a result, she was put in prison several times, but she kept fighting bravely. It was because of her tireless work that she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004. She became the first African woman to receive the award. 

Wangari passed away on September 25, 2011, but her spirit continues to inspire a worldwide movement towards environmental protection and social fairness. Her book, Unbowed, records her life journey and the challenges she faced, offering an inspiration to countless people worldwide. Her story lives on through the millions of trees planted by the Green Belt Movement and the countless lives she touched through her hard work. It serves as a reminder that even the smallest actions, like planting a tree, can have a great influence on the world. 

When I was 12 years old, my mother sent me to a Chinese school in California. I disliked spending my Saturdays in a three-hour Chinese class. I1 it was boring and difficult.

However, my mum thought that I should develop and improve2 Chinese language skills. I seemed to know it would do me good in future, but at that time I couldn't realize the advantages of learning3 second language.

Many years later, I had a chance4 in Asia. I chose China mainly 5 I learned Chinese when I was young. However, I still didn't know if I could read street signs, buy food or talk to people there.

Tony went to London to see his friend Susie and visit her school. And Tony took some{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(照片) of her school. There are about 700 students in her school, like most schools in {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(英格兰). There are about {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(三十) students in her class, while there are forty in Tony's class. So Tony's class is a bit {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(大的) than Susie's. In Susie's school, the students all wear a jacket and a {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(领带). And they don't sit in {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(一排). They sit around tables in the classroom. Most English schools have sports grounds and swimming {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(水池). Kids there {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(真正地) enjoy playing football. Daming says the students in his school {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(也) like playing football. And they have an excellent swimming {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(队伍) as well. 

A Special Day

 One day when I was seven years old, I went to a park with my parents and sisters. We played on the grass and sat on the see-saw(跷跷板). It was a wonderful day. 

 Now, as a parent, I often think of how my words and actions might influence my children. Something ordinary might just become a special memory for them. 

 Last year, when my son turned four, we had a special day. In the morning, we drove to the train station and bought two tickets. We stood on the platform, enjoyed the sunshine and watched the trains come and go. Soon afterwards, we caught our train. We took two window seats and watched houses, bikers and cars whiz by(呼啸而过). 

 After getting off the train, we walked to a restaurant. We sat, looked through the menu and asked each other what we would like to eat. We waited patiently for our food and tried everything we had ordered. The foods were all our favorite. 

 Then, we walked around the city center. We visited a toy shop and ended up buying a train. After all, it was the little man's birthday. We also enjoyed some hot chocolate at a coffee shop. Finally, we made our way back to the train station and returned home. 

 Every so often, my son will look at me with dreamy eyes and ask, "Mama, when can we have a special day again?"

 Sometimes, we go to a park; sometimes, we try out a new restaurant. We don't do this too often, or it won't be special. But we don't do it too rarely, either, or we might forget how much we both love having them. 

It was Mary's birthday. She 1 a letter from her uncle. "Dear Mary," he wrote in the letter. "Happy birthday! I'm sending you some 2 . They are arriving tomorrow. I hope you'll like them. Uncle Toddy."

Mary was very 3 . She liked eating eggs and chicken. "I can keep the chickens for their eggs or eat them," she thought.

When the chickens arrived the next day, they were all in a 4 . Mary took the box off the truck and began to carry it into her garden, but the box of chickens was so heavy that she 5 it.
