There are many ways to manage (管理) time. A clock plays an important role in time management. It can help us make our goals (目标) come true. We can use it in many parts of our life and it helps us say no to wasting time. The following ways can help us get started.

Learn about the meaning of 30 seconds. For example, if your house is very dirty, think about this. Failing to (未能做) hang up a coat and keep a desk or room tidy happens when we leave out (忽略) the quick housework. We can play a game to see if we can build a clean and comfortable environment in 30 seconds.

If possible, exercise at a certain time. For example, exercise at 7:00 a.m. and have breakfast at 8:00 a.m. every day. Also, we can ride a bike, run slowly or go for a quick 15-minute walk twice a day. The 15 minutes seems like a short time, but if we keep at it, it can make a difference to our health.

Go to bed and wake up on time. This is the most important way and it makes us full of energy (能量). It also makes us healthy and benefits our study and work.

Pairing every goal in life with a clock makes it easier to come true. We should learn to manage time and make full use of every minute.

Australians are different from Englishmen in some way. There is more visiting without an appointment（预约）in Australia than in England. All the same, you have to be careful about your timing.

A very close Indian friend talked to me once about how bad he felt when he visited his friends shortly before "Tea"（the evening meal, or dinner, in Australia）. They sat and talked very politely. But clearly his friends wanted him to leave soon.

In Asia, of course, the problem would not arise: the family would ask their friends to have the evening meal with them. But this kind of thing does not come easily to Australians, so do not hope for it. Instead（相反）, leave before dinner. Australians give visitors a hug, or even a kiss, but they don't give visitors a drink when they come for a visit, unlike many Asian countries.

Sleeping is important in our life. There are some myths (荒诞说法) about sleeping in our everyday life. Do you believe the myths? Here are some of the myths.

1. Counting sheep helps you sleep.

The University of Oxford once tested this myth. They asked 50 volunteers to try three different ways to fall asleep. Some counted sheep, some imagined a relaxing scene and some just did as usual.Guess what? Those volunteers who counted sheep took longer than usual to fall asleep.

2. Your brain rests during sleep.

Your body may rest during sleep, but your brain does not rest. It stays very active during sleep. It still does some important things, such as controlling your breathing and body temperature. How busy your brain is!

3. You should never wake a sleepwalker (梦游者).

Many people have heard that waking a sleepwalker might kill them. Is that true? No! Waking a sleepwalker may make them confused (困惑的). Sleepwalking might be dangerous. The safest way is to gently guide them back to their beds.

4. Cheese gives you nightmares (噩梦).

The British Cheese Board had a study on this myth. They asked 200 volunteers to eat 20g of cheese every night for a week. Then they recorded the volunteers' dreams. 75% of the men and 85% of the women who ate cheese had vivid dreams, but none of them had nightmares.

In China, there is a fun activity on a baby's 1st birthday. People call it "Zhuazhou". 

On that day, parents usually put a table on the bed. On the table, there are some books, pens, rulers, food, toys and so on. Then parents put the baby at the table and the baby can take anything on it. 

The things may show what the baby may be good at in the future. For example, if a baby takes a book, people will say he or she will be good at writing. If a baby takes a kitchen ware (厨具), people will say he or she will be a good cook. When a baby takes a cake or a toy, people will say he or she will know how to enjoy life more. 

Today, we have a "Zhuazhou" for my cousin. He takes a book from the table. My uncle is very happy and calls him "Wenhao". He puts much hope(希望) on the name.

Bamboo is a wonderful plant for many people around the world. There are over 1,000 uses for it. People make tables, clothes, medicine and musical instruments with it. Pandas may eat bamboo every day, and people can also eat it.

The fastest growing plant in the world is bamboo. Some bamboo grows so quickly that people say they can watch it grow. The speed of growth depends on the type of bamboo, the earth and the season. Normal bamboo grows 3-10 cm a day. It usually grows in tropical (热带的) areas. It can also be found in other parts of the world. Bamboo plants are found in Asia, Australia, parts of Africa and South America.

    ▲    Like today, people use it because ifs very strong. They use it to build houses, boats and bridges. The Chinese made a bamboo bridge over the Min River in Sichuan, China almost 1,000 years ago. You can still visit it today. Also, bamboo is still used to build houses today, especially in China and Philippines.

As a part of history, bamboo is very important. The great scientist Thomas Edison did not invent the light bulb (灯泡), but he made it perfect. He wanted the material inside to bum for a long period of time. He tried over 1,000 different types of materials. However, none worked very well. One day, he tried to use a piece of bamboo and the light bulb lit up for over a thousand hours. This invention helped other scientists to make the modern light bulb we use today.

It can be difficult to refuse an invitation from a friend. Simply saying "No." would sound impolite. The next time you have to refuse an invitation, you can say, "I'm afraid I can't.
