Is there intelligent (有智力的) life on other planets? For years, scientists said "no" or "we don't know". But today this is changing. Seth Shostak and Alex Barnett are astronomers (天文学家). They believe intelligent life lives somewhere in the universe. They also think we will soon contact(联系) it.

Why do Shostak and Barnett think intelligent life lives on other planets? The first reason is time. Scientists believe the universe is about 12 billion years old. "This is long enough for other planets to have intelligent life," say Shostak and Barnett. The second reason is size — the universe is huge. "Tools like the Hubble Telescopes(哈勃望远镜) have shown that there are at least 100 billion galaxies," says Shostak. "And our galaxy, the Milky Way, has at least 100 billion stars. Some planets going around these stars might be similar to the earth."

In the past, it was hard to look for signs of intelligent life in the universe. But now, powerful telescopes (高倍望远镜) allow scientists to find smaller planets — the size of Mars or the earth — in other solar systems. These planets might have intelligent life.

Has intelligent life from space already visited the earth? "Probably not," says Shostak. "It's a long way away. However, intelligent life may contact us in other ways, such as radio. In fact, they may be trying to communicate with us now, but we don't have the right tools to receive their messages. However, this is changing. By 2025, we could make contact with other life forms in our universe and we might help each other."

Teachers often find it challenging to collect homework from students before class, and sometimes they even become upset about it. To solve this problem, a 13-year-old middle school student whose family name is Zhang from Shenzhen created a smart robot, which won first prize in the 20th Guangdong Provincial Children's Invention Awards.

This amazing robot can quickly and efficiently (高效地) collect homework from students without any mistake. It uses advanced radio frequency identification (RFID, 无线射频识别) technology to read special tags (标签) on each student's notebook. Each student's notebook has a special RFID tag with their names and subject information. When students place their notebooks on the robot, it "reads" the tag and adds it to the correct list.

Not only does the robot help teachers collect homework, but it also allows them to check who has and hasn't handed in their homework by receiving messages from the robot over Wi-Fi. This invention has got the high praise from many teachers, who believe that Zhang's creativity and talent will lead to even more useful AI tools in the future.

Due to his success, Zhang expects to become a scientist when he grows up. "I enjoy doing scientific and creative projects like making model airplanes in my spare time. Inventing gives me a sense of joy and achievement," he said.

With his love for science and innovation (创新), Zhang is well on his way to making the world better through his inventions. His story serves as an inspiration (激励) for other young people to go after their dreams and make a difference in their daily life.

As we know, children around the world have all kinds of ways to go to school. Mostly, they go to school by bus, by bike or by subway. However, in some places, children have to climb mountains or cross rivers to reach their schools. Let's have a look!

In Ladakh, India, children have to take a road covered in ice to go to school. The road is 100 km long and it usually takes children about four days. They and their parents have to go on this journey twice a year to reach their boarding school (寄宿学校).

In Tunkhel, Mongolia, children have to travel 10 km of icy roads to reach school. To get there faster, they have to ride a horse. On the snowy roads, they always have to be careful while riding. Also, they have to watch out for wild dogs on the way. Their school doesn't have enough rooms for classes, so children have classes in turn, younger ones in the morning and older ones in the afternoon.

The three sisters Julia, Yulissa and Kenya live in a village of Nicaragua. It often rains there. Every morning, they climb into their boat to row (划船) to school. They have to watch out for snakes hiding in the trees over the river. They also have to make sure that the boat does not fill up with water—because it has many holes and could sink (沉没) at any time.

Although in these places, it's dangerous and difficult for children to go to school, they don't give up. For them, it's the only way to have a better future.

 Having no idea what a policeman would be doing at his worker's house, the manager asked," May I speak with the policeman?"

" No, he's busy!" whispered the child." Busy doing what?" asked the manager." Talking to daddy and mommy," came the whispered answer.

 Growing more and more worried as he heard something like a helicopter(直升机) through the phone, the manager asked," What is the noise?""A helicopter," answered the whispered voice." What is going on there?" asked the manager, alarmed.

 In a serious whispering voice, the child answered," The search team has just landed the helicopter." Surprised and worried, the manager asked," Why are they there?" Still whispering, the young voice replied," They are looking for me."

Have you heard of the saying "Fall down seven times, stand up eight. "? It means that no matter how difficult things get and no matter how many mistakes you have made, you still have the passion(热情) and energy to keep going. This is called perseverance and it can help you achieve lots of things.

Perseverance means keeping doing something over a long time, even when it gets difficult. It's believed that you can reach a goal if you prepare to work for it. Practicing a skill on your bike over and over again or finishing a picture without throwing it away shows perseverance. Florence, 12, says, "It means never giving up, being determined and trying hard to push yourself. I go running with my mom three times a week, even when I don't like it, because I want to be the fastest in my class. "

Studies show that feeling hopeful and working towards a goal can reduce stress and make you feel happier. Achieving something you've worked hard for, and overcoming challenges along the way, can also develop your confidence and make you feel braver to try new things. Angela Duckworth, an expert in thoughts and feelings, believes that it doesn't matter how talented, clever or rich you are, having    grit is what really helps you succeed. She explains, "No matter how gifted you are, and no matter how easily you do well in your lessons, you should have perseverance. "

Duckworth believes perseverance is something anyone can learn, and the best way to do this is to have a growth mindset. This means believing that your brain can grow, and that you can achieve anything if you put your mind to it. So instead of thinking "I can't do this", try thinking "I can't do this. . . yet".
