By 2050, nearly 70%% of the world's population will live in cities. Many of them will become large cities with a population of more than 10 million. Moving people around each large city will he different. The traffic speed in Landon will fall about 7 miles per hour. Around the same speed it was 150 years ago, in the days of the horse and cart . But city planners are working on ways to solve the problem.

This is a story of a man who works in my factory. I have seen him for years, but I didn't know him very well. He was a little bit weird (怪异的). He always wore an old red hat and carried a rubbish bag. He seemed to have no friend, and was always alone. He usually spent his break time and his lunchtime walking around in the factory and collecting used tins (金属罐). Maybe he was too poor, I guess. But I didn't care much about him.

One day, I was fixing one of the broken machines in the factory when this "tin man" came with his bag. As usual, he picked up the tins, which were all around the place. My manager was standing there, watching me.

When I finished my job, I heard my manager ask the "tin man" about what he was going to do with those tins he had collected. I never even thought about this kind of question, because I always assumed that "tin man" would take those tins to the recycling center.

Unexpectedly, the "tin man" answered, "I will give these tins to my neighbor. He has been ill for many years and cannot work. He is too poor to buy daily bread now."

I was so shocked to hear that, so I asked him, "You mean you collect all those tins just to help your neighbor?"

"I know this does not help much," he said. "But I give everything to him, because he cannot work. He needs help."

It was the most beautiful moment in my life. We are all able to help others no matter we are rich or poor. It has made me feel humble (谦卑的) every day since then.

A student asked his teacher," Sir, I have a question. How many friends should a man have- one or many?"

" It is very easy," the teacher answered." Get me that red apple

from the highest(最高的) branch(树枝) of the tree." The student looked up and said," It's too high! I can't get it."

" Ask a friend to help." the teacher said.

 The student called a friend and stood on his shoulders(肩膀) for the branch.

"I still can't get it, sir," said the student sadly after the first try.

" Don't you have more friends?" the teacher smiled.

 The student asked more friends to come over. They stood on each other's shoulders, trying to make a pyramid(金字塔) to get higher. But the student still couldn't get the apple. Then one of the friends went home, brought a ladder(梯子) and the student finally picked the apple.

After getting the apple, the teacher asked," So, do you know how many friends a man needs?"

"I do," the student said." Many, so together we can work out any problem."

" Sounds good," the teacher said." You need as many friends as you can. Among (在…之中) them, there will be at least(至少) one clever man who can think of a good idea, like getting a ladder!"

As we all know, it's important to have good friends and get on well with our friends.

Why are friends so important to us? There are many reasons, but I think the most important one is that friends can make our world more and more colorful. When we are happy, they will share our happiness; when we are down, they always cheer us up, when we are in trouble, they are always ready to help us out.

I have a friend like this. Her name is Fiona. She is a warm-hearted girl and more outgoing than me. She can get on well with almost everyone. She shares everything with me. We spend much time together just like sisters. As for hobbies, we both like studying computer science. Last week, she won a prize in a computer competition. I was really happy for her and really proud of her. I congratulated( 祝 贺 ) her again and again and gave her a big hug in tears. In study, we usually help each other and learn from each other. I am weak in math. She often explains the math exercises to me over and over again patiently(耐心地). Thanks to her help, I made progress in last math exam.

Friends are like lamps and they can light up our life, My friends are very important to me and I can't leave them.
