①Can you speak more than one language？Being able to communicate（沟通）with people in another language is a great way to make friends and feel more confident. 

②Language is the way we communicate with each other. It includes speaking，writing and using body language. The United Nations celebrates six of the world's most widely used languages every year，such as French Language Day，on March 20th，Chinese，on April 20th，and Russian，on June 6th. They are good chances to try learning a new language. 

③Speaking another language helps you talk to people you may not understand and makes you feel more connected with them. Havana，who is aged 12，says speaking two different languages means she can talk to her relatives in another country. This makes her feel closer to her cousins because they can share their ideas. Learning another language can also increase your confidence. For example，by being able to talk to local people when you travel，you will feel more confident. Studies show that being able to speak two languages also exercises your brain（大脑）and makes you better at concentrating on more than one thing at a time. That means you can easily pay attention to at least two things at a time. 

④Alex Rawlings is a language teacher who can speak more than 15 languages. He finds it's easier to learn words that he can hear，rather than just from a vocabulary. "And I've made lots of friends through my languages，"says Rawlings. "The more you learn，the easier it gets. "

Kanu and Timo are brothers. They like playing soccer very much. They often play it with their friends after school.

One day, Mom asks them to buy some eggs so she can make （做） dinner for the family. When the brothers make their way to the store, they see （看到） some of their friends playing soccer on a field （运动场）.

"Let's play soccer for a short time （一会儿） first, and then go to the store," Kanu says to Timo.

Timoagrees. Then the brothers go to the field and play with their friends. They have a lot of fun and lose track of time （忘记时间）. "Oh, no, we have to buy eggs now."

Kanu and Timo run to the store, buy some eggs and go home quickly （迅速地）. "Sorry, Mom. We are late," the brothers say. "We play soccer and lose track of time."

"Boys, it's OK, But next time, do important work （重要的工作） before （在……之前） playing, OK?" Mom says.

Katie waved to Ernest, her uncle's neighbour, on the boathouse. The gull's name, Gulliver, was given by him. The gull's size and his single leg made the bird itself different. But Ernest told Katie what Gulliver did that first summer Katie and her dad came caught everyone's attention. Young Katie lay in her stroller (婴儿车) on the floating dock (码头) when Uncle Ralph and Dad were repairing boats nearby. The waves from the passing boat made Katie's stroller shake strongly. "Kee-aah! Kee-aah!" Gulliver made the loudest cry. Dad and uncle rushed to Katie and stopped the stroller from falling into the water. They kept a close eye at Katie after that. Another summer Katie was three years old, she liked to touch everything. But Dad didn't watch her every minute when she tried to catch small ducks around or fish from water. "Kee-aah! Kee-aah!" The gull's cry brought Dad back in time. He stopped Katie as she tried to follow the small ducks running towards water. Several summers passed, and Gulliver continued to call out as Katie tried new things.

This summer Katie did the usual by-the-sea things she'd learned to do. One day, she rowed a boat out but was trapped on a rock by a storm. As she looked up and tried to catch the last warmth of the sunshine through dark clouds, she saw a single white feather. A gull feather? She searched the sky for an answer. Putting her arms around knees, she closed eyes to hold in the tears (眼泪). "Kee-aah! Kee-aah!" Katie sat up. "Katie! Katie!" Soon, Dad and Uncle Ralph appeared. "How lucky! We heard Gulliver as we came around the rocks," Uncle Ralph said, "At least… it sounded like him. Strange, he was nowhere in sight." Katie remembered the feather. "I thought I heard him, too."

Hi, everyone! My name is Sheldon Cooper. I'm from America. I'm twelve years old, but I'm a middle school student. I like science very much. 

My father is a PE teacher. He teaches students to play football in my school. My mother is a beautiful woman with blue eyes. I am like her. My eyes are blue too. Missy is my aunt. She is a nice woman. Her eyes are brown. My brother's name is George. He likes to play football. He is fifteen years old, but we are in the same class. George isn't happy about it.

Born in the city, we are used to everything here. We are even getting used to the {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(噪声) and pollution in the city. It has become a part of our lives. We have never been to the country. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(大自然) is a strange world to us. This summer I had a {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(机会) to go on a vacation to the countryside with my parents. 

For the first time in my life I have the experience of the country life.  Here I've {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(了解;意识到) what the life in the countryside is like. This is a small {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(村庄) far from cities. It is at the foot of a mountain. The life here is simple. It is different from the city life. 

There are few cars or {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(工厂). And they use little {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(石油). There is also no {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(废弃物) on the road. There are {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(庄稼) in the fields. The air is fresh. People here are not as busy as the people in big cities. You can find people bathing in the sun {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(到处). They enjoy the quiet life very much. 

I want to learn English well. I believe that communicating with others is the best way to learn English. So I went to a language school in the UK. I also got a job as a saleswoman because I thought learning English in a language school was not enough. I needed to meet people outside to improve my speaking and listening. 

My first work week was very difficult. For example, when a customer asked me about a specific type of chocolate, I had no idea. After the customer left, the manager said to me, "It doesn't matter. No pain, no gain. " The manager's words encouraged me and I tried to learn how to communicate with customers in English. 

Three years ago, I only knew how to introduce myself in English. But right now, I know many different kinds of medicines and other things in English. I will never forget all my experiences in the UK about learning English.
