It was nearly seven o'clock, when a man walked into a bar, ordered a drink and turned to watch the television.

    The seven o'clock news was on and it was showing a man standing on top of a tall building. He was looking down at the crowd of people below.

    On the ground, a police officer with a megaphone(扩音器)was trying to tell him not to jump.

    "Let's talk about your problem," the police officer was saying. "Perhaps we can help you."

    The man turned to the bartender(酒吧侍者)and said, "I bet you a hundred dollars he doesn't jump.

    The bartender looked at him. "You're offering me a hundred dollars if he jumps? Is that right?"

    "Yes. I don't think he'll jump."

    The bartender smiled. "OK. You've got a bet."

    The man turned back to the TV and watched it carefully. The bartender, however, did not seem to be very interested. He continued washing glasses and serving the other customers.

    Then, after about five minutes, the man on the building threw himself off the building and fell to the ground.

    The man in the bar turned to the bartender.

    "He jumped," he said. "You win."

    He held out a hundred dollar bill to the bartender, but the bartender would not take it.

    "I can't take your money," he said. "I knew I couldn't lose. That story was on the six o'clock news. I saw him jump."

    "Well, yes, so did I," the man said, "but I didn't think he'd do such a stupid thing twice."

This is Mr. Black. He works at the radio station. He gets up at 6:00 a.m. and rides to work. It takes him about twenty minutes to get to work. He starts work at 7:00 a.m. He often plays sports when he is free. His favorite sport is tennis.

This is Mrs. White. She is a mother of two boys. She gets up at 6:30 a.m. every day and makes breakfast for her two sons. Then she makes the bed, cleans the house and drives them to school. She often goes to the supermarket (超市). She likes shopping.

My name is Jessica Meir. I am a flight engineer on the International Space Station(ISS)(国际空间站). Today, I will tell you something about what life is like on the ISS.

The ISS has over 425 cubic meters(立方) of living space. I work here with astronauts from the United States, Russia, Japan, Canada and some other countries.

When we are on the ISS, we have to follow an everyday schedule. It tells us when to get up, eat, exercise, work, relax and go to sleep. We spend about two hours each day exercising. Without enough exercise, we would lose an amount of muscle(肌肉) because of the microgravity(微重力) environment in space.

When we are on the ISS, we eat food that is specially made. We eat some foods, such as cakes, in space in the same way as we do on the Earth. But some other foods are real challenges. For example, when we' re in space, we can't shake salt onto food, because the salt would float away(飘走). As a result, we have to use special salt.

When we are not busy working on the ISS, we can relax and have fun in different ways. We also love to listen to music, read books, play cards, watch movies and talk with our family members.

As you can see, the microgravity environment in space brings many challenges that you don't face on the Earth. Would you like to live for some time on the ISS.

This term, Xiao Yang has a new subject— geography, but he doesn't like it. "It's not useful at all, " he thinks. So he always plays games in class.
