Nowadays, people around the world are working to help our planet. Check out how the four young adults made a difference.

One of the things to be learnt in a foreign language is guessing. You guess what kind of thing to come when listening to someone talking. People do this all the time in their own language, so it is necessary(必要的) to do this in a foreign language, too. Here are some examples.

1. " What's thematter?""I went to a party last night, so I…"

2. "I feel so tired these days. "" I think you'd better..."

3. " Of course, she never stops talking. She is one of the most..."

You can see from the above three examples that the context(上下文) helps a lot in understanding what is being talked about. So" guessing " is very important in understanding English, especially(尤其) spoken English.

In your school, are you allowed to choose the subjects you want to learn? If you don't like a subject, can you choose not to take it? Of course, the answer is "No" in China. 

In America there is a school trying something new. At a high school in Florida, students will be able to choose their own classes. We all know that some students are better at some subjects than others. Some students plan to go on to college, while others will not. At this school students are able to find subjects they are interested in, and possibly even find the field(领域) they would like to go into after school. They are allowed to choose a subject like biology, math, a foreign language, or study skills like computer or car repair. 

Some people think this is a good idea, because it helps students think about what they want to do in the future, and the school helps to give them the knowledge and skills they need to get there. They say that giving the students the chance to choose their own classes makes high school more interesting. Others disagree. They think it will make it difficult for students to discover different possibilities(潜力). They point out that fourteen-year-old teenagers are too young to know what they will want to do in the future. How do you think? Would you like to be able to choose your own classes? Many useful changes have been made in education, but seeing the differences in each student is also important. What are they interested in? How can we help each student become a better student?

 You're complaining to your parents about something. Maybe your computer isn't good enough to play the new games. Or your friends' bikes are better than yours. Then you hear...

" When I was at your age, there weren't any computer games or video games. And I didn't get a bike until I was 16. And it was a second- hand bike. Also it was too big for me!"

 So, is it really true that life is better for kids now? The answer is yes. Many kids can get more things than their parents. There are fewer children in a family now, so parents have more money to spend on each children.

 Technology started bringing many changes to our world after 1990. Thirty years ago, there were no small computers or different kinds of smart phones. But now some people even can't live without them!

 However, in this technology age, we often spend more time at home. Kids aren't as health y as they were in the past because they don't spend their time on exercise. They surf the Internet and watch TV in their free time. And, although young people still keep in touch with their friends, some people think kids today aren't as sociable as they were in the past.

①Are you tired of people asking the questions, "What's your hobby?" Well, you always hear the same old answers: reading, listening to music, painting and so on. There's nothing wrong with these activities, but maybe it's time for some new ideas. 

②For example, how about "yarn bombing"? What's that? Maybe you have heard of knitting(编织) to make sweaters, scarves, gloves and other things. With yarn bombing, people knit different kinds of things, like sweaters for trees or hats for the stones in the park. It's the latest form of artwork. In some cities, people are even paying knitters to decorate public places with their art. Some call it "Knitting Graffiti(涂鸦), " but unlike other forms of graffiti, it is easy to take away, and it doesn't destroy anything. 

③Do you like those TV shows in which the police use science to solve crimes? If you do, you can take up "forensic science" as a hobby. That's the science used to find crimes. You can get a set of at-home fingerprint tools and find out who is taking cookies from the cookie box or perhaps who is reading your secret diary. 

④Finally, here's a hobby for those who want to have fun and make a little money. It's called "upcycling". You've heard of recycling —you put things like glass, paper and plastic in special boxes so the materials can be used again. Upcyclers take old things and make them into new things. Sometimes they can even sell the things they make. For example, you can take an old book bag, clean it up and decorate it. It will look like a cool new bag. There's even a magazine called Upcycle that is full of ideas. All you need for this is an old thing and a good imagination. 

⑤So look around for a new and interesting hobby. Then when someone asks you the question "What's your hobby?" you can give them an answer that they've never heard before.
