American children like to celebrate their birthdays. They usually celebrate them with a party. They ask their friends to their parties. They don't have parties on the right dates(准确的日期)of their birthdays if they come on a school day. They may hold(举办) them at the weekend. 

Today many children like two kinds of parties in America. One is at home. Parents decorate the house with balloons(气球)and coloured paper. They make a special birthday dinner. The children play games. The other is away from home. Some are at a special restaurant. The children eat pizza and ice cream. The waiters also sing and say happy birthday to the children. Some are at a park, or at a cinema, or in some other places. 

There is a cake with candles(蜡烛) at every birthday party. When the candles are lighted(点燃), everyone sings the special birthday song Happy Birthday. 

Many people don't have birthday parties when they are not young. They say they would like to forget how old they are. But they do like to keep the happy birthday parties of their childhood in mind(记忆). 

These days, many people use the shared bikes from ofo or Mobike. These users are {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (woman) and men, old and young. In the first week of this year, Mobike has 5, 850, 000 users. That's a big number. Why do so many people want to use them? Because it's easy for people to use the bikes with {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (they) phones and they can put the bikes with GPS anywhere. 

Hu Hong, a teacher, often {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (go) to work by bike. He says, "It's far (远的) from my home to my school. If I don't ride a bike, f{#blank#}4{#/blank#} I need to take a bus, then I need to walk {#blank#}5{#/blank#} 10 minutes. So it's difficult for me not to be l{#blank#}6{#/blank#} for work. Now I can go with Mobike to my school on time. 

But at the same time, using ofo and Mobike b{#blank#}7{#/blank#} a lot of problems (问题). In Wuhan, people often park too many bikes in the busy roads after {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (use ) (83) them, and that's bad for the traffic (交通). 

"Some people are r{#blank#}9{#/blank#} selfish (自私的) . When they f{#blank#}10{#/blank#} riding the bikes, they just park them anywhere. They only think about themselves. They never think for others." He Jia, living near a busy road, says angrily. 

They hang from trees.They float in rivers and oceans.They are piled up in landfills（垃圾填埋场）.Our frequent use of plastic products has，for many years，been a leading cause of serious environmental problems in the world.Last month，China drew up new guidelines（指导方针）aiming to bring plastic pollution under control across the country in five years' time. 

According to the new guidelines，the ban（禁令）on the use of non-biodegradable（不可生物降解的）plastic bags will have been applied to cities including Beijing and Shanghai by the end of this year.Other sources of plastic garbage will have been banned in these cities by the end of 2022.And that rule will have extended nationwide by late 2025. 

Fortunately，China will not start from zero.Late last year，the country announced a national standard for biodegradable plastic shopping bags.It is technologically prepared for their production.Some regions have gained valuable experience that others can learn from.For example，Jilin province is leading the way by providing eco-friendly（环保的）shopping bags in some local supermarkets. 

Given the size of China's consumer market，one main obstacle（障碍）is the large number of plastic items that are being used by restaurants and e-commerce（电子商务）platforms.It's estimated that nearly 25 billion plastic bags were used for deliveries in 2018.Most of them were rarely reused. 

However，most Chinese people welcomed the government's effort to reduce the use of plastics."Beijing is thinking about the problem seriously，"said Tang Damin，a member of Greenpeace East Asia in Beijing.He added that the policy could be far more effective（有效）by using incentives（激励）such as a deposit（押金）return program on plastic products.

 The greatest wonders of the ancient world art are usually hard to miss. For example, you can't walk past Egypt's pyramids without noticing them. They' re right in your face. But not the Nazca Lines in southern Peru.

 These ancient drawings don't rise before you on huge stones. They' re geoglyphs(地画). They' re seen in the desert sands. There are hundreds of them. Some are so large that the best way to see them is from the window ofa plane. That's how thousands of visitors see them each year.

 Yet these wonders weren't noticed for nearly 1,500 years. A researcher first found some geoglyphs in Nazca(the Nazca Lines) in 1927. But nearly 150 geoglyphs weren't discovered until many years later. It took technology such as drones(无人机) to find them.

 Researchers still have many questions about the geoglyphs. And the answers are unclear. Here's what we do know: The area's pre- Incan Nazca people created the geoglyphs. This was between 500 BCE and 500 CE. How did they make them? By moving away some of the dark rocks that covered the ground. This showed the lighter- colored desert sand below.

 Many of the Nazca Lines show the natural world, like animals and plants. And then there are some that aren't from nature. One example was found in 2019. It's of a strange creature(创造物) with many eyes and mouths. Resenrchers say this shows that the Nazca people may have had a taste for the magical.

 So why were the geoglyphs created in the first place? Researchers think they may have been part of rituals(仪式) for rain and crops. Certain geoglyphs may have shown where the rituals were being held. Others could have led travelers to those places.

 Then again, these are all guesses. Only one thing is clear: The Nazcas found a way to draw lasting lines in the always- changing sands of time.

Late June—July

In mid-June, the first fruit harvest (收获) begins. A wagon (马车) ride takes you from the parking lot up the hill to the cherries. We grow three different kinds of sweet cherries. We also grow sour cherries. They are usually used in desserts.

July—August

Soon after the cherry season, watermelons are ready. Usually, on the first two weekends in July, we are open to visitors to pick watermelons. We also have 12 acres (英亩) of peaches (桃子), so there is enough for everyone.

September—October

As warm summer days give way to cool fall days, apples begin to ripen (成熟). We have recently added Asian pears to our farm. This popular fruit ripens at the end of September. And through a visit to the pumpkin area, you can try to find the "perfect" pumpkin for your Halloween party!

In ancient China, the coming-of-age ceremony was very important for the young people.According to The Book of Rites(《礼记》), it was the symbol of their right (权利) to get married and their duty(义务) to share family responsibilities.Only after the ceremony could the young people be called "adults".

At the coming-of-age ceremony, after all the guests sat in the right position, the parents would give a short speech.A respected(受尊敬的) elder that was chosen to hold this ceremony would wash hands and do the Guan Li or Ji Li in several steps.Then, the child would kneel on the ground and listen to his or her parents' expectations and words used to educate the child.After showing thanks to guests, he or she could stand next to his or her parents as a real adult.

In modern China, the coming-of-age ceremony in some universities and senior high schools is getting its popularity.Besides a traditional ceremony mentioned above, some young people may wear traditional Chinese clothing or modern clothing and take professional photos to record this special event.Some choose to make a charitable donation(慈善捐赠) such as giving money or time to a charity or an organization.They also reflect on their achievements to set better plans for their future education, career(职业生涯) or personal development.
