①"Long distance never separates close friends."It's easier to make new friends rather than to say goodbye to old ones.

②When I was still studying in China, my school held a singing competition. I entered it because I really loved singing. I sang with a girl named Jenny. She's one of my friends.

③Unluckily, I was nervous so I forgot the lyrics for a moment when we sang. I was standing on stage, looking pale in the face. We lost the competition. I felt terribly sorry, but Jenny tried to comfort me and said,"There will be another chance."

④After about a week, our school's art festival began. I decided to enter it. The first person I thought of to join me was Jenny, although I wasn't sure if she would like to. But while I was asking other people to join me, she said she would join as well. We decided to sing the song See You Again at the festival because I would leave for the UK after I finished the performance. We prepared for it for a long time.

⑤Finally, the day of the festival arrived. As I walked into my class, people started clapping for me. Someone had written "Sally, Come On!" on the board. My classmates made cards for me. After I completed my performance, everyone cheered for me.

⑥It was a really unforgettable and touching afternoon. I want to thank Jenny, who didn't give up on me when I felt down. I want to thank my friends for helping me, and I really want to thank all of my classmates who were with me in my two middle school years.

Helen Has Changed

Little Helen lived with her parents and lived a happy life. However, little. Helen got {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(使分开) from her parents this term. Her parents {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(离开) for a big city to make money. Little Helen had to live with her grandparents. She went to a new school in her home town. At first, she felt {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(孤独的;寂寞的). She thought others didn't like her, so when others wanted to make friends with her, she always {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(拒绝). And she never 

{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(解释;说明) the reasons to her classmates. She always kept quiet in the classroom and never {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(提及;谈到)her parents at school.

Miss White, her teacher, noticed that. She {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(介绍) Helen to the classmates. Miss White also encouraged her to {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(参加;加入) in all kinds of after-school activities with them. Miss White gave Helen {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (建议) on how to make friends with others. Day by day, Helen's new classmates make friends with her.

Helen has her {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(最好的) friend Tina and they often help each other. She has completely changed. Now, Helen is a happy girl with a bright smile.

The sky was pitch- black, the house was creaking (嘎吱作响), and I still had four hours until my parents got home. I locked myself in my parents' room and I turned up the TV so that I wouldn't hear the creaking house. 

Then the phone rang. I picked it up and said, "Hello… hello… ?" But there was no reply. I knew someone was on the other end. Finally, I hung up. A minute later, the phone rang again. Still no one said a word. I became more frightened (害怕的) as time passed. The phone rang again and again and again…

By the fifth time, I refused to pick up the phone, but the ringing continued. To get my mind off this strange caller, I called my friend. She told me not to worry and to turn the phone off. As we talked, I heard a car stopped in front of my house. When I looked out of the window, I saw an unfamiliar(不熟悉的) car. 

Thirty minutes passed and the car was still there. It drove up and down the driveway as if knowing I was watching.  ▲ , but I refused. 

Soon the phone calls started again. I heard noises in the background, but I couldn't tell what they were. I really didn't want that person to get out of the car and start towards the house. If he or she did, I didn't know what I should do. None of the doors to the house was locked, and I would have no way of protecting myself. The only thing I could do was to hide, which wasn't a very good plan. 

At this moment I was considering calling the policemen, but my friend offered to drive by. "Maybe if they see me come, they will leave, " she suggested. 

By the time she arrived, the car had left. The phone rang again and I picked up, thinking it might be my friend. Someone on the other end said, "Bye- bye. "

When I think back to that night, I am no longer frightened — just curious (好 奇 的 ). Who could it have been? Even so, since then I have not stayed at home alone and I probably never will again. 

Here are some accidents which often happen to children:

◆ Scalds (烫伤) — Small children don't understand that hot water and hot drinks can be dangerous. It only takes a cup of tea or coffee, or a bath that's very hot to scald a child badly. 

◆ Falls— Children of all ages fall and hurt themselves from time to time. For babies, the danger is rolling off the edge (从边缘滚下来) of something like beds, chairs or tables. It's very easy for babies of two to four to fall off a piece of furniture, down the stairs, out of a window or off a balcony (阳台).

◆ Burns— Many children die in house fires and more are badly burnt. A cigarette (香烟) can easily start a fire. A child can also be burnt by a hot iron or matches. 

◆ Cuts— Glass causes the most serious cuts. So keep away from broken bottles, doors or windows.
