My problems started after I went to a new school far from home. I was only 14, and at first I missed my family a lot. I often called them and cried on the phone. But after two weeks, I found I enjoyed being with my classmates at school. 

I had many friends who were boys. I thought of them as my best friends—but only friends. I never guessed my friendship with boys would become a problem. 
    Then, three months later, my friends told me that some teachers and girls said I was hanging out（闲逛）with boys all day long in order to get attention from them. Seven months after that, the head teacher Mr. Wang asked the class to choose（选择）some students to join the Student Union. I thought I could win for I was doing well in school. I'd already won prizes（奖励） for the best in math and English exams. A week later, the list came out and it didn't include（包括）me. I was sad.

Mr. Wang came to me and said. "Don't be sad. I know you're excellent! Maybe you're a little distant（远） from the girls in our class. They don't know much about you, so some of them didn't choose you. It doesn't matter. Do your best to get along well with everyone and I think you'll make it next time. "

We were going to play against a team from a country school. 

{#blank#}1{#/blank#} the match almost began, they came. They looked {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(bad) than we thought. They were wearing dirty T-shirts and blue jeans and looked {#blank#}3{#/blank#} farm boys. We thought they never saw {#blank#}4{#/blank#} basketball before. We even felt that we {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(need) any practice to play against such a team. It was already so late {#blank#}6{#/blank#} no time could be given to them for a warm-up. The match began. One of our {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(boy) got the ball. And he tried {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(give) it to our forward. But from out of nowhere a boy in a dirty T-shirt caught the ball and he{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(quick) and beautifully shot and got two points. To our surprise, they got another two points in a minute. Soon it was all over. The country team {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(win) the match. Of course we knew that there was still another team better than any good team. 

But the most important lesson we learned this time was: One can't tell a man or a team by the appearance. 

Bonnie and Chester are two squirrels(松鼠). They are good friends. One day Bonnie goes to her friend's home. She sees Chester is not very happy. 

"I can't find my nuts(坚果), " says Chester. . They are not under my bed or in my desk. They are for my family. I must find them. 

"I can help you. " says Bonnie. 

Bonnie sees a white bag under the chair. But the nuts are not in it. Then she sees a photo on Chester's desk. In the photo, Chester has a big brown box. A lot of nuts are in the box. 

"Box? Where is it?" Bonnie thinks. She looks here and there. 

"Look, Chester!" says Bonnie. "What's in the box?"

"Oh, nuts!" says Chester "You're great!"

Then he goes up to the top(顶部) of the bookcase. Chester is happy now. 

When I was a boy, I used to love walking in the woods around my home. My mom warned me several times 1 to travel so far that I would lose sight of the house. Being a naughty (淘气的) boy, 2 , I soon found myself walking further away, testing just 3 I could go into the woods without getting lost. After 4 my way once for two hours, though, I decided that I had better leave a trail (痕迹). 

The next day I decided to try it. I walked into the woods 5 the house was out of sight. Then I broke a small 6 on a young tree to mark the way I walked. I walked further and broke many sticks. In a few places where there were no small sticks, I 7 some daisies (雏菊) that were growing. After a while I finally got 8 and couldn't walk any further. Then I decided to go back. When I turned around, I easily found my way home, but instead of being proud, I felt 9 . I could see the trail of destruction(破坏) I had left in the woods going on and on. Looking at the broken sticks and dead 10 , I was ashamed. I promised never to do that again. Instead, I started to cherish(珍惜) my time alone in the woods with nature. I'd sit by the streams and listen to them 11 . I'd watch the birds and squirrels. I'd bend down to smell the flowers. And I even buried an acorn(橡树种子) or two 12 that one day an Oak might grow. 

There is an old saying that goes, "We will be known forever by the tracks(痕迹) we leave. " As I have grown older and wiser, I have done me best to never 13 a trail of destruction in my life as I did in the woods that day. I have instead tried to leave tracks of 14 , kindness and goodness and I have also 15 to show others that they can do the same and of course they have succeeded in doing this. May you always leave tracks of joy as you follow your own trail of love. 

I was fourteen years old and I just came to the junior high school. It seemed that I would have difficulties finishing high school because I was a troubled teenager. However, one person came into my life quietly and then completely changed everything. 

The first year in my school, Mr. Brown taught me history. He was quite different from the other teachers I had known. But I had to say that he was sure a great teacher. 

One day, Mr. Brown called me aside(到旁边) and asked why I was a B student in his class but a C student in the rest of my classes. I passionately(热情地)told him about my divorced(离婚的)parents, the gangs (尤指滋事的青少年团伙), the fights, the police—all of the evil things I had experienced. It was then that Mr. Brown patiently explained that the only person responsible(有责任的)for my situation was me. And the only person with the ability to change my situation was me, too. He told me that I failed not because I was a failure as a student. He encouraged me to become a better student. 

Ten years later, I was preparing to graduate(毕业)from a university. The first person coming to my mind was him. So I tried to reach him and wanted to tell him that I really wished him to come to enjoy this important moment together with me. 

I'll never forget his reply. He said, "Who is this again?"

At that moment, I came to realize that I was just one of hundreds of the students whose lives were changed by him but he had no idea of his influence. 

Mr. Brown never came to my graduation(毕业), but his not coming taught me another important lesson. His final lesson for me was that we will never know or understand the influence we have on other people's lives. And he also taught me that we all have the chance to influence people's lives for the better or for the worse. 

 Arriving in Sydney on his own from India, my husband, Rashid, stayed in a hotel for a short time while looking for a house for me and our children.

 During the first week of his stay, he went out one day to do some shopping. He came back in the late afternoon to discover that his suitcase was gone. He was extremely worried as the suitcase had all his important papers, including his passport.

 He reported the case to the police and then sat there, lost and lonely in a strange city, thinking of the terrible troubles of getting all the paperwork organized again from a distant country while trying to settle down in a new one.

 Late in the evening, the phone rang. It was a stranger. He was trying to pronounce my husband's name and was asking him a lot of questions. Then he said they had found a pile of papers in their trash can(垃圾桶) that had been left out on the footpath.

 My husband rushed to their home to find a kind family holding all his papers and documents. Their young daughter had gone to the trash can and found a pile of unfamiliar papers. Her parents had carefully sorted them out, although they had found mainly foreign addresses on most of the documents. At last they had seen a half-written letter in the pile in which my husband had given his new telephone number to a friend.

 That family not only restored the important documents to us that day but also restored our faith and trust in people. We still remember their kindness and often send a warm wish their way.
