Learn to rise again

    It is not always easy to discover yourself.From a(/an)1age, I had a strong sense of who I wouldbecome—but an accident changed everything.

    To me, skating was more2thananything else in the world. Nothing else filled my heart with so much3.I spent 24 hours a week developing my skills. I had no social life or interestsother than4.But I was rewarded (回报) with first place medals in nearly every competition.

   5,during one competition, I fell and was badly injured. The doctor told me that Icouldn't skate any more. The pain in my back was6tobear (忍受) and even basic daily tasks became difficult.

    My passion (激情) had been7.I lost heart and had no idea what I would become. After eight months of suffering,something had to8. Instead of sitting around and wasting mydays, I began to work with local community service projects. By volunteering asa swimming teacher and summer reading assistant (助教) for kids, I gotan idea of whom I wanted to become. After a few months, I9anew interest. Little by little, I stepped out of the shadow and rebuilt my confidence.

    Sometimes, challenges in life will get in theway. We can choose to stay behind or try to get past these challenges.  My10was a challenge that failedto stop me from reaching success. Today, I'm a very confident and optimistic (乐观的) person.

I never knew that one little"I'm sorry"could mean so much. I never thought that one moment in time could 1 the rest of my life.

I was sitting in class one day when a short and 2 kidnamed Victor came in. He sat down next to me, looked at meand looked away. When our eyes met, I 3  talked to him, but he just smiled at me. So I didn't think 4  was the person that I'd like to become friends with.

One day I joined the unkind kids in 5  him, although I knew it was wrong."Do you have any friends?"a kid asked Victor, who 6  past us alone, keeping his head down.

 "No, he hasn't got any 7  . He's too foolish,"I said. Victor looked at me with sad eyes. That night, I couldn't sleep 8  I couldn't get Victor's face out of my mind. In the next week, he never 9  my eyes in class or smiled at me.

It was really hard for me to ask him to forgive me. I couldn't forget his sad 10  every time I saw him. The next day in class, I wrote him a note telling him how 11  I felt. About five minutes later, I turned and saw tears12 his eyes. Later he told me that I would never realise how much my apology(道歉) had meant to him. He said he hoped that we 13  become friends.

We had a very pleasant talk over lunch that noon. And then, we became close friends. When I think back, I realise that my apology made it possible for me to 14  good friends with Victor, a lonely person.

So never 15  a chance to tell somebody you are sorry. Apologies can really change your life.

When Robert was about two years old, he tried to remove a bottle of milk from the fridge but it fell, spilling (洒出) milk all over the kitchen floor.

When his mother came into the kitchen, instead of shouting at him or punishing him, she said, "Robert, what a great and wonderful mess you have made! I have seldom seen so much milk. Well, the damage has already been done. Would you like to get down and play in the milk for a few minutes before we clean it up?"

In fact, he did. After a few minutes, his mother said, "You know, Robert, whenever you make a mess like this, finally you have to clean it up and bring everything back to its proper order."

After they cleaned up the spilled milk, his mother then said, "You know, what we have here is a failed experiment in how to effectively carry a big milk bottle with two hands. Let's go out in the back yard and fill the bottle with water and see if you can discover a way to carry it without dropping it."

The little boy learned that if he grasped the bottle at the top near the lip with both hands, he could carry it without dropping it. At that moment he knew he didn't need to be afraid to make mistakes. Instead, he learned that mistakes were just good chances for learning something new, which is, after all, what scientific experiments are all about. Even if the experiment "doesn't work", we usually learn something valuable from it.

Hello, everyone. I come from Zhejiang. I live in a beautiful town here. Would you like to learn something about my hometown? The name of my hometown is Wuzhen. It has a history of about 7,000 years. Wuzhen is Well-known（出名的）for its history and culture. And it is one of the most popular water towns in China. The old stone bridge, stone roads and houses make the town look very beautiful. The old canal（运河）runs through it. You can see some shops and restaurants along the canal. There are many tourist attractions（旅游景点）in the town. Xizha and Dongzha are two beautiful places in Wuzhen. Many people feel relaxed when they come here. In Xizha, some houses are hundreds of years old. But many people still live in some of them now. The colors of many old houses are grey and white. There are free buses and boats running between Dongzha and Xizha. And it only takes about 10 minutes if you want to walk between the two places. There are all kinds of historical sites（历史遗迹）, workshops, and relaxing places in Wuzhen. Come to my hometown and I believe you'll love it. 

My name is Steve. I'm thirteen years old. I'm a high school student. The girl in pink is my sister, Mary. And the girl in red is my sister, too. Her name is Jane. They look the same. They both(两者都) have big eyes and blond hair. The boy in white is my friend, Jack. He has a big nose and short hair. We are in the same class.

One day, New York was struck(侵袭) by a terrible rainstorm. The streets were full 1  water and the underground system almost came to a stop. 

Unluckily, this happened during the morning rush hours. Many people who were going to work were 2  to go home. Some tried their best to 3  a taxi or to get on a bus. Still others faced the storm 4 . walking miles to get to work.
