Twenty years ago, my father, John, wanted to be a businessman. He wanted to be rich. So he worked very hard and every day he went home very late.

    One night when he came home from work, a robber stopped him and wanted to take his money. My father was very afraid. He didn't want to lose his money. But he didn't know what to do. Luckily a policeman came and caught the robber. My father thanked the policeman politely.

    Now my father is a policeman. He wants to help other people.

Half a century ago, a boy in Britain had never thought that a dream would drive him to spend decades in a {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(外国的) country.

That boy was William Lindsay. When in primary school, he loved studying maps. The saw-tooth(锯齿般的) line in China {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(抓住) his eyes, that is, the Great Wall.

Driven by his dream, Lindsay set off on his Great Wall journey in 1984. However, a few days later, he had to give up because of the difficulties. After returning back, he began to exercise more often, and even learned some {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(基础的) Chinese.

With full preparation, Lindsay set off again in 1987. Altogether, the hike took him about 160 days. When he was found to be walking alone along the Yulin Great Wall in Shaanxi, all the local villagers {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(想知道) where he is from and what he is doing here. Finally, the police came, he had to leave.

Nothing could stop his willful heart. A few days later, Lindsay began to continue his{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(旅行) from Inner Mongolia, He was finally able to arrive at Shanhaiguan, a major pass at the {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(东部的) end of the Wall.

Through this trip, he developed a deep understanding of the Great Wall. Since then, he has made great efforts to protect it. In 1988, he organized more than 120 volunteers to pick up{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(垃圾) on the Great Wall. He started to give lectures in {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(公共的) places and began looking for more volunteers.

During Lindsay's Great Wall hike, he met his Miss Right, a Chinese girl from Xi'an. They got married. His wife and two {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(儿子) have now also joined him in protecting the Great Wall. This British boy said he was {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(自豪) of what he had done and he would spend his remaining years in China—for his family and for the Wall.

That day was a very good day. The volunteers who visited an orphanage(孤儿院) now became the best friends each

other. The four persons were Li Hui, the reporter of Jing Newspaper, Zhao Qiang and Huang Jian, reporters of Chongqing Television Station, and me. 

According to our experience of driving in the disaster area, it would be OK to drive in the morning, but the road was dangerous in the afternoon. So this morning we got offat 6:00 am. It is about 40 kilometers aim place. It would take not  more than one hour normally. However, because of poor road conditions, we tried twice but failed to go through. We had to stop driving to wait for road repairing. It was very dangerous to park on the road in the mountain. To be honest, my    experience in the disaster area were over load(超负荷). I almost couldn't stand. But one thing had been supporting me, I had been very grateful to have such a chance to help the people of disaster area, to have such a chance to share my love.  When we took two vehicles(卡车) supplies to the orphanage, the leader of the orphanage Mr. Lang with 31 children was too excited to say anything.

I love to play with my friends. I have some good friends. Will is the most outgoing boy I've ever met. He's really funny, too. Isabel is quiet and shy, but she also likes to have parties! May is really serious and hard— working. After school, she goes to soccer practice, piano lessons, and math classes! She's never late, and she's always there for her friends.

One evening, Brian told Mom that the boys at school had been laughing at him, because they knew he had to do the dishes every night at home. "I didn' t like it. Today 1 called me Cinderella," he said seriously. Mom could tell that Brian was 2 about what had happened. After dinner, Brian went straight upstairs, without stopping to 3 as usual. "I' ve got a lot of homework to do," he said. Mom was surprised but said nothing.

 When Brian got home from school the next day, he said 4 , "I' ve solved it, Mom." He had told the boys at school that he wouldn't do the dishes anymore, as he wasn't a 5 , "I'm not Cinderella," he said.

 The next morning, Brian came downstairs, ate his breakfast, 6 his lunchbox and set off to school as usual. But at noon he rushed into the 7 again. "Mom, there was nothing in my 8 !" he said. "How strange," Mom said. Brian 9 made himself two sandwiches and ran to school.

 That evening, before going to bed, Brian asked, "Mom, do you have a 10 pair of trousers for me? My laundry(洗衣) basket is full." Mom answered that she had been busy that day. The next evening 11 dinner, when Brian headed upstairs later to start his homework as usual, he came straight back down again. "Mom, my laundry basket is still full. Can you tell me 12 you will put a wash on?" he said. "Maybe tomorrow," Mom answered.

 All week long, 13 Brian kept asking his mom for things, Mom kept giving him almost the same answers. Until this afternoon after school, Brian got home and 14 his mom alone preparing dinner for the family, he suddenly got the 15 . Mom had been trying to tell him: he might not want to be Cinderella, but neither did his mom. After dinner, Brian did the dishes again himself.

Derek was born in Brazil in 1992. His father 1 him Derek after a famous surfing (冲浪) star because he wanted Derek to become a surfer. However, there was a problem. 

When Derek was seventeen, he learnt about his 2 dream. From that moment, Derek tried his best to become 3 surfer. He went to the beach every day and started taking surfing lessons with a coach. Derek kept 4 and finally, he learned to surf! 5 unbelievable it was! Derek says that he can't see, but he can hear the 6 when the waves are coming. He says none of the waves make the same noise, so he knows which way to surf in. 

In 2012, he flew to Hawaii to surf one of 7 waves in the world. Local surfers were very surprised to see the confident young man surf the big wave 8 no problem at all. 

There will be a film about 9 on show next year. Derek's story in the film teaches us that nothing is impossible 10 we believe in ourselves!
