"Never give up!"It is my law(法则) of my life. It has brought me 1 . I learnt the law from my father's 2  story.

My father was 3  in a poor village in the north of Jiangsu, China. When he was a young boy, he went to school in the morning, and then 4  in the fields till sunset. And then he did his homework and didn't sleep 5  midnight. Life was hard, 6  the family had no money!

At the age of , my father 7  the United States. It was the land of gold. and8  people could become rich there.

"Why don't I go to America?"he thought to 9  , full of hope.

So my father came to America."I had thought it was easy to 10  money in America," he told me."But when I arrived there, I realised it was not true. They did not like to hire (雇用) me because I spoke 11  English. Later, I worked in a small restaurant, cleaning up tables, washing dishes and sweeping the floor. Life was 12  for the first few years, and I worked from am to pm. I wanted to go to school to learn English, but it was impossible. I couldn't 13  to go to school."

My father 14  working hard, and finally succeeded. He often says to me,"If you want something, you have to work for it and never give up."

Things do not come 15  in life. That is what I learnt from my father.

Emily was preparing for her school's International Day, where each student had to present their country's traditions. Though she had plenty of {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (知识) about her culture, public speaking made her nervous. To{#blank#}2{#/blank#} (避免) making mistakes, she practiced her speech at home and {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (重复) it over and over until she felt confident.

Ma Wenbo, a nine- year- old boy, saved his family and people next door out of a fire on December 18th.

"I noticed the strange smell at about 10 o'clock {#blank#}1{#/blank#}night. I got up and ran towards my father's room. When I opened the door, my father {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (sleep). I woke him up immediately," Ma said.

Ma's father got up {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (quick) and ran out. However, he made a mistake — he went back to get {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (he) phone. He soon found he couldn't get out.

Luckily, Ma was able to run out. He {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (knock) on other people's doors and stopped a car. Then he asked the driver {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (call) firemen. The firemen arrived in just a few minutes. They saved Ma's father and two {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(woman) on the fourth floor. In the end, all 18 people in {#blank#}8{#/blank#}building were safe.

Ma's father was proud of him. "He did some training about fire at school {#blank#}9{#/blank#} he knew what to do. He was much {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(calm) than I was."

"Aly, I know you took the money." 

"I didn't take the money, Grandma. 1 you love me, you should believe me."

Her anger came from a deep place. 2 her would only cause her anger to rise. So I tried a different way.

"I love you, Aly. I don't understand3 you took my money, but I want you to know you don't have to4 from me. When you love someone, you share what you have. You can keep the money you took, and I will also give you anything else you want. What else do you need?"

She 5 me, "I didn't take your money! I don't want your things!" 

I went to the kitchen and picked up my6 cup. "It is one of my favorite cups." I put7 on the table in front of her. "You can have this cup." She looked surprised.

Then I started gathering other things and placing them before her. "Take this ring. Take this scarf. Take this..."

She said, "No, Grandma, no. Stop it!" But I 8 putting others on the table. As the things grew, the fire left her eyes, her9 dropped, and then her thin shoulders began to shake with crying. Only then did I stop and put my arms 10 her. "I love you, Aly. Just ask me for what you want but no stealing."

She didn't admit guilt(认错), but the money11 again. Aly didn't change12 , but she did change. Aly is a high school student now, and an almost straight A student. She has learned to13 people's feelings. She is smart and funny sometimes. I am so proud of the wonderful young woman she has become.

Now I can leave any money lying around. I know14 that she will not take it. She has not stolen from me since that first time. Sometimes, 15 is the best punishment you can give a child.
