Aunt Ann is a police officer. After breakfast, Ann puts on her badge (微章) and goes to work. Ann and her partner, Jim, are on duty today. At the police station, the sergeant (巡佐) talks to them. "Last night, a bear ran away from the zoo!" he says. "Be careful!"
They pick up the keys to their patrol car (巡逻车) and drive around the west side. At the corer of Main and State, there is a traffic jam because the traffic light is broken. In the afternoon, they walk down Elm Street. Everything looks quiet. Suddenly, Ann sees a little boy crying. The boy's name is Adam. He gets off the bus at the wrong bus stop. Ann shows him her badge so he knows she is a police officer. "Where do you live?" Ann asks. Adam does not remember, but he brings his ID card with him. Here is some cool information about the world's population.
It took 12 years for the world's population to grow from 7 billion to 2022's 8 billion. But it will take about 15 years for the population to reach 9 billion. That's because fewer babies are born now. In 50 years, this can slow the growth of the world's population.
The day on which the world's population grows by one billion is important. The United Nations chooses a baby born on that day as the symbolic(象征的)baby. For example, the world's population reached 8 billion on November 15, 2022. Vinice Mabansag was born on that day and she became the symbolic 8 billionth baby.
More boys than girls are born around the world. There are 106 baby boys born for every 100 baby girls. There are 1. 8 billion people between the ages of 10 and 24. That's the largest number ever(有史以来).
