Zhu Yanjun is a migrant worker(农民工)from northwest China's Gansu Province. Recently the 50-year-old took part in the 2023 Chinese Poem Competition and won second place in the final.

Zhu was born in a family of farmers. As a young boy, Zhu would help his father do farm work after finishing classes. In 1983, as a first-grader in primary school, he met poetry for the first time in a Chinese class. Since then, he has been in love with poems. After noticing Zhu's interest, his father spared some money from the family's living costs to buy him poetry collections （诗歌集）. During junior high school, some of his classmates dropped out of school and moved to other cities to look for jobs. Zhu listened to them talking about the outside world during holidays. "I also wanted to leave my hometown to see the world. "he said.

After graduating from junior high school in 1992, Zhu stopped his schooling. He began to work as a migrant worker. But he did not stop reading poems. 

In the past years, Zhu has worked in seven cities in China. Whenever he arrives in a city, he first visits the bookstores and libraries there. Although he is busy working during the day, he spends his time at noon and in the evening reading poems. He knows around1, 000 poems by heart and the lines help him keep a calm mind. 

In 2023, with the encouragement of his wife, Zhu decided to sign up for the 2023 Chinese Poem Competition. To his surprise, he made it to the final. Under his influence, his son and daughter have developed a great interest in poetry. They have been accepted by universities away from their hometown. "I hope more people will also fall in love with poetry, "said Zhu, adding that he will continue learning poetry.

Once there lived a king in a small country. Every summer, the king went to his palace(王宫） near a1 , and then went back to his palace in the city in autumn. 

One afternoon, the king went 2 in the forest. He didn't tell anybody else where he went, so he was very happy to enjoy the peace as he swam. Suddenly, 3 heard a loud noise. Looking around, he saw a big bear coming towards( 朝 着 )him. The king was very4 . He jumped out of the water and ran away at once. He ran and ran until he was completely lost. Finally, he 5 an old house in the forest. He knocked on the door and an old 6 opened it. "I'm your king, " he said to the old man. "I'm really hungry. Bring me something to eat7 . "

The old man lived a hard life and his food was not good enough for the king. He had only three eggs, 8 the king was very hungry, the farmer had to cook the food and gave it to the king. The king felt much better9 he ate them. "Thank you, good man, " the king said. "How much should I pay for that?"

"Twenty pounds. "

"Twenty pounds? How10 they are! Are eggs rare(稀有的)here?" "No, " answered the old farmer, "but kings are!"

Everyone wants to live longer, so to keep healthy is very important. I have a neighbor. She is {#blank#}1{#/blank#} old lady. She can read newspapers, watch TV and search on the Internet to learn {#blank#}2{#/blank#}( anything) new. She often does Tai Chi in the morning and dances in the evening. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} she is over 70, she looks young and beautiful . Last week a reporter from a magazine interviewed(采访) her and asked her {#blank#}4{#/blank#}( tell) the reason why she kept so young and healthy. She answered with a smile.

"I have a secret of {#blank#}5{#/blank#}( stay) young and healthy. It is easy. Keep your mind active, be {#blank#}6{#/blank#}( interest) in the world around you, and learn at {#blank#}7{#/blank#}( little) one new thing every day. Don't think you are too old to go back to school. I know two men entered a college of arts when they were 70 years old. They {#blank#}8{#/blank#}( study) there for 6 years and now they are{#blank#}9{#/blank#}( write). Another man went to a tennis school at the age of 71 and now he is good at playing tennis. He said it's good {#blank#}10{#/blank#} his health. Some people may say staying young is easy only for those who live in the future. In fact, no matter how old you are, you can make it."

Shortly after Mary left the university, she went to travel in Canada. When she returned to New York, she told a lot of funny things to her best friend, Jack. Jack has become very {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(interest) in Canada from then on. And he decided to have {#blank#}2{#/blank#} visit there.

Suddenly, Mary saw Jack. She felt very happy {#blank#}6{#/blank#} shouted, "Hi, Jack. Here, here!" At the same time, Jack waved his arms. "I'm here!" In three minutes, so many policemen came to the front of Jack and {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(catch) him, "Please come with us to the police office. "

After the policemen found out the truth, they let {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(they) free. Why? Because the word "hijack" in English has different {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(meaning). You can look it up in the dictionary {#blank#}10{#/blank#} you want to know about it. 

 One day, Mario drives(开车) from his house to his mother's house with his dog, Zoe. Because it is his mother's birthday. But his car can't work in the desert(沙漠).

"Who can help me?" Mario says. "No one can help me..."

 Zoe looks at Mario and runs away(离开). Mario is not happy about that.

 The sun is very hot and it's 40℃ every day. Mario doesn't have water or food.

"It's the last day. I will die(死). I can't meet my mother..."

"Woof! Woof!" "Here! Here! There is a man!" Frank runs to Mario.

"You have a good dog. He finds me and I find you."

"Thanks, my Zoe."

Lisa had always been overweight. She wanted to 1 weight (体重), not just because she wanted to look 2 and healthier, but also because it would make life easier. For example, it was 3 for Lisa to find ready-made clothes that would fit. She had to ask a tailor (裁缝) to make clothes that were 4 enough.

But now things are quite different. Last month her classmates were preparing for the School Art Week. Someone advised Lisa to 12 the main role of the proud Queen who was tall and fat. Lisa agreed and practiced a lot. Soon after the play, Lisa became the star, she did 13 well that all the teachers and students remembered the proud Queen. 14 stood around her and said "congratulations" to her. She even 15 the School Best Actress for her wonderful performance.

Now Lisa doesn't worry about being fat any more, she believes in the English saying "Every dog has its day."
