The Ling family did not think they were going home with a pet that day. Annie wanted to visit the animal shelter(避难所). She wanted to see the cats and dogs. She had wanted a pet for years. Her parents were waiting for the girls to be old enough. Annie was seven. Her sister Lily was only three. Lily was still learning how to act around animals. She had a lot of energy!

Annie and Lily were excited to see the animals. A shelter volunteer gave the Ling family a tour. The volunteer talked about why animals came to the shelter. Some were found by the road. Others were dropped off by families who could not care for them.

Finally, the Ling family got to see the animals: There was a cat section and a dog section. They were all so cute! Some of the animals looked scared. This made Annie sad. The volunteer explained that animals need time to get used to a new place. She assured(向......保证) Annie that all the people caring for these animals were kind.

The Ling family walked through the dog section. They started talking. A dog just felt like the right choice. Annie's mom could not take her eyes of fan older black dog with kind eyes. Annie's dad was interested in a large, energetic dog. Annie had found her own favorite. He was a young puppy. He was brown with spots. He had been found near the railway with six other puppies(小狗). Annie could not take her eyes off this dog. She thought he had the cutest face in the world.

Annie pleaded(恳求) with her parents. They did not want to make a quick decision. But they could see in Annie's eyes that she had found her companion(伴侣). The volunteer talked about what a good breed the dog was and that he would be kind with children. That was what the family needed to hear. They decided to take the little puppy home.

 In order to make our school life more colourful, our school plans to start some radio programmes. 

Cindy studies in a middle school. When Cindy first came to the new school, she felt very lonely (孤独的), because she had few friends. She wanted to make some friends with the same hobbies as her, but it was too hard. She was new and shy, and she was afraid to talk with them. After a week, her teacher Mr Green asked Cindy to sit next to Jenny. But she was unhappy because Jenny was too noisy, too outgoing (外向的) and she acted like a boy. And sometimes she was very rude (粗鲁的) to her classmates. Cindy was very worried. "Jenny will not be my friend. We are so different," she said to herself.

However, as time went by, Cindy became more outgoing because of Jenny. In fact, Jenny is really lovely and helpful. They are different, but they help each other and they become good friends. Cindy has made a lot of friends because of Jenny. She's really happy. 

Now, Jenny is studying in a new school. Cindy really misses her. "It's not important to be the same as your friends. Good friends share happiness and sadness," said Cindy.

Millions of years ago, dinosaurs（恐龙） controlled the earth. And there were different types of dinosaurs on the earth. Some of them were no bigger than chickens, but all of them had very small brains （大脑）. Later on, there weren't any dinosaurs. What happened to them? 

In the days of dinosaurs, the whole earth was warm and wet. There were many green forests. But the earth changed slowly all the time. When parts of the earth became cold and dry, the forests there died. Then dinosaurs could not find enough food to eat.    ▲

What's another reason? We can make a guess. New kinds of animals came to the earth. Some had big brains and were fast and strong. They could kill dinosaurs. Some ate dinosaur eggs, too. 

There may be other reasons that we do not know about. Each year, people will find some dinosaur footprints （脚印） and bones. Scientists are trying to tell us more about dinosaurs. 

Miss White is a teacher. Her home is near her school. So she walks there in the morning. All her students are very small. It's a cold and windy morning. Miss White walks to school as usual. The cold wind goes into her eyes and big tears（眼泪） come out of her eyes. She gets to school, opens the door and goes into the classroom. It's nice and warm there and she is happy. But then a small boy looks at her, then puts his arms round her and says, "Don't cry, Miss. School isn't very bad. "
