In a hairdresser's (理发店) in Changsha, Hunan Province, people can pay just three yuan tohave their hair cut. 1 owner is 71-year-old Tang Jinlian. She uses her service to spread 2 . 

Tang's daughter became sick 3 she was three years old. Tang and her daughter got alot of 4 from others in their homctown in Yongzhou, Hunan province. Tang then learnedhow to cut hair and 5 to use her skills to give back to sociery (社会). 

In 2004, Tang's son went to work in Changsha. Tang and her daughter followed. Tangstarted to provide hair cutting 6 in a vegetable market. In 2014, because the market wasin need of repair, Tang 7 an outdoor hairdresser's in Lufeng community (社区)， where herson lives. However, because of its8 conditions, there were not many people visiting it. Luckily, the community noticed her 9 and decided to help. In 2015, they turned a garage(车库) into a hairdresser's for Tang to use. "We thought about how to make use of Tang'shairdressing skills to help more people,10 the old who have difficulty moving around," aworker in Lufeng community said. 

Tang's hairdresser's is open in the morning. Serving around 10 people each day. Tang putup a 11 on its wall. It reads, " A promise made, a promise kept for life (一个承诺，必守终生)". For 19 years. Tang has asked only 12 yuan for each haircut. Even when people try togive her more money, she never 13 it. 

Tang's story has touched many people's hearts. They've 14 her to do something fortheir community. Now there are over 500 15 in the community who carry out differentactivities like picking up rubbish. 

Smart, Social Animals

Recently, researchers have found that dolphins know their own names much like people. Dolphins talk to one another with whistles (口哨) and calls. Scientists have known that the animals also use unusual whistles to name each other. They had thought that dolphins only heard each other's voices. However, the scientists didn't know that dolphins listen for their names too. 

To test this idea, the researchers caught 14 dolphins and recorded their name calls. The scientists then copied each dolphin's voice. When the changed recordings were played, the dolphins replied strongly to the names of their relatives and close group members. They paid no attention to the names of dolphins they did not know. 

Dolphins live in large groups that grow and change. Each dolphin's unusual whistle helps it quickly find a friend or a family member, or call for help. Understanding their calls requires learning. It's a skill that's seen in very few animals, which include humans, elephants and bats. 

Elephants, for example, communicate with sounds. Their sounds can be heard by other elephants miles away. Dolphins, too, communicate with each other by making sounds like this. 

Elephants also communicate by moving their head, feet and trunk. In much the same way, dolphins communicate through their movements. They often touch each other to express friendship. 

Unlike dolphins, elephants also communicate through their great sense of smell. They can recognize other elephants through the smells they have. 

Why do dolphins and elephants share the gift of communication? Scientists think it may be because they are social and smart animals. Both have strong family relationship. Now, whether they also have nicknames is another question! 

Nüwa is an ancient goddess in traditional Chinese stories. She is best known for creating human beings and repairing the pillars (柱子) of heaven. 

In Huainanzi, the four pillars supporting heaven were {#blank#}1{#/blank#}, a fire burned and a flood troubled human beings. Nüwa smelted (熔炼) a five-colored stone to {#blank#}2{#/blank#} the sky and saved plenty of lives. Then, she {#blank#}3{#/blank#} the rest of the stone on the earth, which turned into all kinds of jade (玉). The five-colored stone stands for the {#blank#}4{#/blank#} basic elements (元素) making up life: metal, wood, water, fire and earth. 

According to the tale of the five colored stone, many stories have been created in Chinese {#blank#}5{#/blank#}. In A Dream of Red Mansions by Cao Xueqin, the hero Jia Baoyu {#blank#}6{#/blank#} an incarnation (化身) of a piece of the magical five-colored stone left by Nüwa. He was named Baoyu, {#blank#}7{#/blank#} he was born with a beautiful jade in his mouth. In Journey to the West, the main character Monkey King was described as a creation out of a {#blank#}8{#/blank#} from at mountain and had super powers at birth. 

Nüwa is believed to be the {#blank#}9{#/blank#} of Chinese people. In traditional Chinese stories, human beings nearly disappeared after terrible natural disasters (灾难). Nüwa and Fuxi were the only two left on earth. To remain reproduction (繁衍), she {#blank#}10{#/blank#} Fuxi and gave birth to the earliest Chinese.

Su Shi, also known as Su Dongpo, was an outstanding Chinese poet ( 政治家), who lived during the Song Dynasty from 1037 to 1101. 

Su Shi was born into a well﹣known family in Meishan, Sichuan province. His father and brother were both great poets. Su Shi showed great talent from a young age and was known for his skills in handwriting and painting. At the age of 20, Su Shi successfully passed the imperial ( 科 举 ), Su held a number of different government positions across China. However, his different opinions often got him into trouble because of disagreements at court, he was exiled (流放) three times. In 1079, Su Shi was even sent to prison. Although he got out of prison at last, Su Shi's literary(文学） talent continued to shine, and he produced a great number of' poetic works during his lifetime. In 1080, he found peace in nature and produced some of his best works. The famous poem, "Red Cliff", was one of them. Su Shi's talent was beyond poetry, as he was also a great prose writer. His article "On the Love of the Lotus" shows his love for the beauty of the flower. In addition, his collection of short stories shows his humour and wisdom. 

It was not only in the literary field that Su Shi was highly praised. As an official, he won the love and support of the people. During his services, he did a lot for the people. In 1077, he protected the city from a terrible flood. The people in Xuzhou were thankful to him and gave him some food as presents. 

Although Su Shi's life was filled with both achievements and troubles, he is remembered as one of the greatest people in Chinese history, and his creative talents and strong spirit continue to influence and guide people around China.
