Astronauts may soon be going to the moon again. NASA plans to build bases (基地 ) there.{#blank#}1{#/blank#}So they may have to grow some of it on lunar(月球的) farms. But can plants grow on the moon? Maybe it is possible. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}The study showed that plants can successfully sprout(发芽) and grow in lunar soil (土壤). It also turned out that success

could depend on where on the moon you do your planting.

In the new study, scientists used the soil that astronauts collected from the moon before to grow plants here on Earth. They put this soil in little cups. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}Other cups got Earth soil. Then the scientists planted seeds and watered the soil.

In the Earth soil, plants sprouted healthy leaves. The lunar soil sprouted leaves, too.{#blank#}4{#/blank#}The older the lunar soil was, the worse the plants seemed to grow.

Stephen Elardo, one of the scientists, says it still might be possible to grow plants on the moon.

{#blank#}5{#/blank#}One example may be where volcanoes (火山) once erupted (爆发). The soil is newer there. Scientists still have much to learn, but this study brings humans one step closer to calling the moon home.

Everyone gets angry. Many things may make you angry. Maybe your teacher gave you too much homework. Or maybe a friend borrowed your favourite video game and then broke it. You may get angry when something doesn't go your way. Maybe you get mad at yourself when your team loses an important game. Or maybe you fly into a rage(暴怒) when a driver accidentally cuts in front of you. That makes you angry!

You need to know how to deal with(处理)your anger. Here are some things you can do when you feel angry:

Get or give a hug.

Take some exercise.

Draw a picture of your anger.

Play a video game.

Run around the outside of the house five

times as fast as you can.

Sing along with the CD player.

Take out the weeds(杂草) in the garden.

Think good thoughts (maybe about a fun

vacation or your favourite sport).

Take a bike ride, go skating or play basketball — do something active!

Never getting angry is impossible. But when you're angry, you can do something and it can make things better. Don't let anger be the boss of you. Take charge of it!

Cruises are becoming more and more popular, with around 20 million passengers per year now enjoying holidays on board luxury (奢侈的) ships. More people see a cruise as the perfect way to sit back and do nothing, and enjoy time off work. But what is the effect (影响) on the environment of this trend? 

Although it usually takes less energy for a vehicle to move through water than over land, cruise ships are often very big, with the biggest ones carrying up to 6, 000 passengers. Moving such large vehicles requires huge engines which burn as much as 300, 000 litres of fuel a day. One scientist has calculated that cruise ships produce as much pollution as 5 million cars going over the same distance. Because they are out at sea, they also burn dirtier fuel that isn't allowed on land. Unfortunately, no government has control over the amount of air pollution out at sea. 

Cruises also produce huge amounts of rubbish, and cruise ships aren't usually good at recycling. Waste water from showers and toilets is usually poured directly into the sea—as much per day as from a small town. Waste food from restaurants isn't put into the sea, but still causes problems when brought back to the land. 

Cruise ships also cause difficulties in the cities where they stop. Popular destinations can get five or six ships per day, with thousands of tourists at a time. Good for restaurants? No. Restaurant owners complain that the visitors look around for a few hours and then return to their ship to eat. What's more, the crowds can put off other tourists, who complain that the streets are too busy. Some towns have banned cruise ships or put a limit on the number that can stop at the same time. People who care about the environment worry that as the cruise industry continues to grow, so will the issues for our planet.

Happiness is important for everyone. Most people want to be happy, but few know how to find happiness. Money and {#blank#}1{#/blank#} alone do not bring lasting happiness. Happiness {#blank#}2{#/blank#} on ourselves.

The {#blank#}3{#/blank#} secret of happiness is to enjoy the simple things in life. You should enjoy life's simple pleasure such as reading a good book, listening to your favorite music or spending time with close friends. People who have several good friends tend to live {#blank#}4{#/blank#} and happier fives. I

The second secret to {#blank#}5{#/blank#} a happy life is to be active. Many people experience this by dancing, or playing a sport. You can forget about your problems, and only think about the activity.

Finally, many people find happiness in helping others. According to studies, people feel good when they volunteer their time to do many meaningful things for other people. So if you want to feel happier, just try to help others.

Bryan ran home. "Dad! Look!" he called excitedly. "I found the cutest pet in the river! I named him Hoppy. "

Dad had a closer look, "Oh, a frog! How handsome!"

"Do you think Hoppy will like it here?"

"Why don't you keep him for a while, and then we'll see how he's going. "

Bryan found a shoebox. Using a pen, he poked（戳）air holes in the top of the box. "Welcome to your new home. In you go, Hoppy. "

"Are you hungry?" Bryan asked. He lifted his frog out of the box and put some sandwich pieces in front of him. "Eat up, Hoppy. " Bryan watched. . . But Hoppy didn't eat. Bryan waited. . . Hoppy just sat and stared（瞪眼看）. "Don't you like sandwiches?"

Bryan put Hoppy back in the box. "I think Hoppy's tired. I'm going to make him a comfortable bed. " Bryan cut the old newspapers into pieces and put them into the box. He put Hoppy on his new bed. "Are you cozy now? I'll tell a story to help you sleep. " When the story was over, Hoppy was still awake. 

"Can't you sleep? Why?" Bryan asked. Hoppy just sat . . . and stared. Bryan didn't know what to do and sat thinking. 

"How are you getting along?" Dad asked. 

Bryan cried, "Hoppy doesn't want to eat or sleep. "

 "Think about what he really needs. "

A little later, Bryan ran into the house looking for his dad. "Whoa!" said Dad. "What's the hurry? And where's Hoppy?"

"I took him back to the river, " Bryan said. "He was sure glad to be home! When I put Hoppy down, he jumped into the river, caught a fly and ate it. Then, guess what!"

"What?"

Bryan laughed. "Just before Hoppy jumped into the water, I think I saw him smile at me. "

Friends are very important in everyone's life because friends are always there when we need them. A true friend reaches for your hand and touches your heart.

My friendship with Sue started 30 years ago with a snake. A few months after I moved into an apartment (公寓), one day, my next-door neighbor, shouted to me for help because a snake was sleeping near her door. I made the snake run away and made a new friend. Soon Sue invited me over for dinner or left home-made food at my door. When I went to my beach house, Sue helped look after my pet and water my plants. And when she wasn't home, I did the same for her. When she traveled, she'd remember to bring me wonderful gifts, but her smile is always the greatest gift of all.

In 1997, I had a lovely child and Sue looked after me and him. Years later, I returned her kindness. I helped out when her husband was in hospital, staying with her and talking about and sharing everything with her.

Unluckily, in 2019 the pandemic (疫情) happened. My husband lost his work and my son couldn't be back home because of the virus (病毒). I was worried about them and I didn't know how to fight the pandemic. But Sue appeared to help us in time. She shared food and medicine with us. Without her, I couldn't go through difficult times. I was the luckiest one in the world.

A wall might separate (阻隔) our apartments and masks (口罩) can separate the viruses, but nothing is able to separate true friends' hearts.
