Education is not just about going to school. It's also about what you learn from your experiences outside of school. So family and community play a great role.

In January 2023, 13 agencies(部门), including the Ministry of Education, released a guideline (指导方针) to improve the school-family-community cooperative education mechanism (学校家庭社会协同育人机制). It shows the roles and responsibilities of school, family and community and how they work together to educate children.

"The goal of the mechanism is to give full play to the advantages of each group and enhance the all-round development of students," Zhang Zhiyong, a professor at Beijing Normal University, told China Education Daily.

According to the guideline, schools play a leading role in cooperative education. They should keep close contact (联系) with parents. It's necessary to pay a home visit and offer family education guidance(指导) regularly. Parents should play a role in family education. Besides traditional education, they are encouraged to lead their kids to take part in activities like volunteering and doing sports. The community should provide support and service for students. All kinds of education bases(基地) and museums, for example, should be free or preferential(优惠的) to students.

Gao Wei, a mother of a middle school student from Beijing, is excited about the guideline. "Strengthening (加强) the connection between the school and parents is not a new thing. But the guideline tells us how to make it happen," she said. "Another good point is that it asks the community to open more social resources (资源) to students. Nowadays, many students only focus on studying. With such support, they can learn more from the real life."

Sydney is one of the largest cities in Australia. It is a lively city. It's famous for the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The weather is warm. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}. And it is about 35℃ in summer. It has many parks and beautiful beaches. 

{#blank#}2{#/blank#}. You can see many visitors in the park from different countries. You can start your trip by going through a bush( 灌 木 ). Then you can find some nice gravel roads (碎石路). {#blank#}3{#/blank#}Of course you will need to travel with food and water. To see a small part of the mountains, you need some days, because there are many things to do in the Blue Mountains. 

Sydney has many beautiful beaches. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}They are Bondi and Manly. Bondi has a nice street with many shops and restaurants. Manly is a great beach to go to. If you want to go there, you can take a boat. It's a cheap and great way to see the Sydney Harbour. It will take you about 30 minutes. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}

People need plants. Plants are important in our lives and we can't i{#blank#}1{#/blank#} world without them. 

Plants keep our air and water clean. Green plants produce o{#blank#}2{#/blank#} for us. Plants are also part of the water cycle( 水 循 环 ). Most of the water goes back into the air after a plant t{#blank#}3{#/blank#} it in. Plants give us a lot of food on Earth. Fruit, vegetables, and grains come from plants. Plants are also important resources( 资 源 ). For example, trees provide wood to build homes and f {#blank#}4{#/blank#}. We use trees to make lots of things at home and school. 

All in all, plants are very important in our daily lives. We can see plants everywhere. Many people are also growing plants in their own gardens. If people grow their own fruit and vegetables, they won't need to buy their food from shops or s{#blank#}5{#/blank#}. People can just pick it out of the ground or off a plant and put it into a basket!

In April 2024, an earthquake happened in Taiwan Province. Earthquakes often happen, but many people have no {#blank#}1{#/blank#} about what to do before, during and after an earthquake. To keep you safe, here is some advice.

An earthquake usually happens in a short time and can be very serious, so it is n{#blank#}2{#/blank#} to prepare yourself and your family for it. Make sure all family members know {#blank#}3{#/blank#} to turn off gas (天然气), water and electricity. They should also know some important telephone {#blank#}4{#/blank#} like 120 and 119.

During an earthquake, keeping calm is important. If you are indoors, move to a safe place in the room quickly, for example, {#blank#}5{#/blank#} a strong desk or table. By doing this, you can save yourself when something {#blank#}6{#/blank#} down from higher places. Remember to stay away from windows or heavy pictures. If you are cooking, turn off the gas at once. If you are outdoors, move to a clear area like a playground. Get away from buildings, bridges and trees. If you are driving, {#blank#}7{#/blank#} the car as soon as possible and then just stay inside. Don't try to drive through an active earthquake.

After an earthquake, don't run out of the building at once. You'd better stay in your safe place {#blank#}8{#/blank#} the shaking stops for 1 or 2 minutes. Make sure if there is anybody else around you, then help the people who are in need.

I'm studying in an American school now. Some of my classmates often ask me 1 like this, "Li Hua, Chinese is difficult for me. I don't know 2 to learn it well. Can you give 3 some advice (建议)?" Here is my advice.

First, don't only learn from 4 in school. You can also 5 some Chinese TV programs (节目) 6 listen to some Chinese songs. Then you'll think learning Chinese is very 7 .

Second, speak Chinese. You can make some Chinese friends and speak to them8 Chinese. You can also go to a Chinese 9 to speak Chinese and make Chinese friends.

Third, don't be afraid (害怕) to make mistakes (错误). Mistakes can 10 you a lot.

On the morning of every Monday, two of my children get ready for school. They each carry a large bag with some clothes, a pair of shoes, lots of food and water. But there isn't any book in it. Then instead of walking them to school as I do on the other school days, I drive them to a nearby park. This is where they are going to spend (度过) the day and have lessons. Right, my boys go to a forest school once a week. It is from 8:30 a. m. to 3 :30 p. m. A group of kids explore (探索) the forests, lakes and animals in nature together. 

I love the idea of the forest school, but I worry about a few things at first. Would the teachers be nice? Would my kids have fun?

The fact is that my boys get used to (习惯于) the school life quickly. Most of the time, they plan their own play, climb tall trees, build fires and do many other interesting things. The teachers never tell them that their play is too high, too fast, or too dangerous. They only follow the kids and help when something goes wrong. 

When I pick the boys up at the end of the afternoon, they often look lively, happy and never want to leave. The forest school teaches them to look after themselves and get along well with nature. I think that is important.
