As I repeated my shopping list in my broken Italian, the grocery (杂货店) worker in front of me couldn't help 1 . Was he getting mad?

We had just 2 to Italy, and I was trying to learn Italian. We had lived here for a short time years earlier, so I had 3 learned some words. But this time I wanted to 4 the language well. I even put notes on things in the house, labeling (标签) everything in 5 .

We kept a grocery-shopping list on the kitchen wall, and added things on 6 we made a trip to the store. I encouraged my husband to write things down in Italian, so I would get used to reading the list and speaking to the 7 in Italian.

My family went on a trip last Saturday.We didn't spend much money but we really1 a good time.In the morning，my father drove his car2 us to a science center in our city.We didn't spend any money on the tickets because they are free.

" It's time for Field Day again," thought Chloe as she started the last week of school. Chloe was not looking forward to it." Why does everybody think it a big day?" Chloe asked her 1 ." Well, it should be a fun day and a day to 2 ," said Chloe's mom." I'm not good at any of those games that are played, and I'm afraid the kids are going to 3 me. Maybe I can stay at home and 4 Field Day," said Chloe.

 Mary was Chloe's closest friend, and they walked to school every day." Aren't you 5 Field Day?" Mary asked Chloe." No, I don't care about such a boring day. No one ever picks me for their team 6 I'm not good at those games," answered Chloe7 .

Mary felt bad and she told her mom how unexcited Chloe was and 8 what she could do to cheer her friend up." Maybe you can get in a game that you know Chloe is good at," Mary's mom 9 . Mary thought for a moment and said that she knew Chloe was really good at the game horseshoes. She was also good at the water balloon toss too.

Field Day finally arrived. Mary came by Chloe's house for10 daily walk to school Chloe was very 11 on the way to school. Mary noticed that and said," I hear they are going to have horseshoes this year and also a water balloon game."" Really? I 12 horseshoes, and I am pretty good at catching those water balloons without breaking them." said Chloe.13 , Chloe got excited about going to school and starting Field Day.

The games began, and Chloe had the 14 Field Day ever! Thanks to Mary, Chloe's team won the first place in the water balloon toss and she got a ribbon (绶带) for the second place in horseshoes." What a great day!" Chloe said to Mary. With Mary's15 , Chloe is now looking forward to Field Day next year!

Bayika Kalidibek is 72 years old and he lives in Xinjiang. In 1972, he took over his father's position and worked as a border patrolman (护边员).

Being a border patrolman is hard. The border area has high mountains and difficult roads. Bayika got hurt (受伤) many times during patrols. He faced many problems, but he never gave up. He said, "Protecting the border is a job for all of us, not just the country's."

In 2004, his son Laqini started to work as a border patrolman. Unluckily, he gave up his life when he saved (拯救) a boy from a cold river in 

2021. He was only 41 at that time. "I'm really sad, but I'm proud (自豪的) of him," Bayika said. "Our family has protected the border for more than 70 years. We will pass down our family's tradition from one generation (一代人) to the next."

Bayika's story is touching. We should learn from the old man.
