Our planet is facing a big problem. It's called environmental pollution. What is it? And why is it so bad? Let's find out! 

What is Environmental Pollution? 

Environmental pollution is that the harmful things are put into the air, water, and soil. 

These harmful things can make our planet sick and affect the life on it. 

Sources of Pollution: 

★Air Pollution 

Cars, factories, and power plants（电厂） release harmful gases into the air. 

★Water Pollution 

Factories, waste water, and plastic waste contaminate our rivers, lakes, and oceans. 

★Soil Pollution 

Chemicals from factories and pesticides from farming can harm the soil. 

Effects of Pollution: 

·Animals and plants can die. 

·Our air and water can become unsafe. 

·Climate change can get worse. 

What Can We Do? 

·Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: We should try to use less, reuse things, and recycle what we can. 

·Green Energy: Use solar, wind, or water energy instead of fossil fuels. 

·Plant Trees: Trees absorb harmful gases and give us oxygen. 

·Awareness: Tell others about the importance of protecting our environment.

I still remember my first English speech (演讲) competition. 1 has been one of my most unforgettable (难忘的) experiences. One day, my English teacher asked me to 2 an English speech competition. I agreed, but I felt worried and even afraid at the beginning. 

3 the competition, I spent most of my free time preparing for it, so I felt very tired every day. Luckily, my English teacher 4 me a lot. 

The great day finally came. I was the third to make the speech. I felt too 5 to remember what I would say. I even wanted to cry for help. When I put my hand into my pocket, I touched a 6 . It said, "Don't be nervous. I believe you are the best!" It was a note 7 my English teacher. After seeing it, I felt 8 better. After a while, my turn came. I wasn't nervous any more when I started to make my speech. At last, I finished my speech with great confidence (自信). 

Happily, I won the competition in the end. I even couldn't believe my ears when I heard the good news. I was so 9 of myself that I couldn't wait to share the good news with my teacher and parents. I have 10 that nothing comes easily and practice makes perfect.

People in different countries have different hobbies.

Kate and John come from Los Angeles. Kate loves swimming, lying on the beach and drinking coffee. John likes surfing. They are having a holiday by the sea now, so they can do all these things they like. Both of them are very good students. Kate is good at maths and English, but she doesn't like history. John does well in English and he is also interested in geography and history.

Mary and Greg live in London. Mary loves shopping very much. In her opinion, shopping is relaxing. The more girls shop together, the more fun they will have. Girls know where the sales are and how to find them, so it becomes a great way to spend some enjoyable time. Greg loves music. There is a piano in his living room and he plays it every day.

Jacob and Oliver love watching movies. Their favorite one is Pirates of the Caribbean. They also enjoy playing volleyball with their friends.

Etan and Sophia spend all their free time riding Etan's motorbike. They love to travel by motorbike and plan to go to Los Angeles by motorbike next month. Etan can also drive a car. Sophia enjoys playing volleyball and reading books.

Several years ago, while attending a communication course, I experienced a most unusual process. The instructor asked us to list 1 in our past that we felt 2 of, regretted, or incomplete about and read our lists aloud.

 This seemed like a very private process, but there's always some 3 soul in the crowd who will volunteer. The instructor then suggested that we find ways to 4 people, or take some action to right any wrong doings. I was seriously wondering how this could ever improve my communication.

 Then the man next to me raised his hand and volunteered this story:" Making my list. I remembered an incident from high school. I grew up in a small town. There was a Sheriff 5 of us kids liked. One night, my two buddies(伙伴) and I decided to play a trick on him.

 After drinking a few beers, we climbed the tall water tank in the middle of the town, and wrote on the tank in bright red paint: Sheriff Brown is a idiot. The next day, almost the whole town saw our glorious(光荣的) sign. Within two hours, Sheriff Brown had us in his office. My friends told the truth but I lied. No one ever found out.

 Nearly 20 years later, Sheriff Brown's name appears on my list. I didn't even know if he was still 6 . Last weekend, I dialed the information in my hometown and found there was a Sheriff Brown still listed. I tried his number. After a few 7 ,I heard," Hello?"I said," Sheriff Brown?" Paused(停顿)." Yes."" Well, this is Jimmy Calkins."" And I want you to know that I did it." Paused."I knew it!" he yelled back. We had a good laugh and a lively discussion. His closing words were," Jimmy, I always felt bad for you 8 your buddies got it off their chest, but you were carrying it 9 all these years. I want to thank you for calling me... for your sake."

 Jimmy inspired me to 10 all 101 items on my list within two years, and I always remember what I learned from the course: It's never too late to right the past wrong doings.

Last week I finished a class at a middle school, receiving some meaningful answers after I asked the students what they would tell their parents about money.

Max said he would say: "Dear Mom. I need to give you some advice on money. I need more allowances(零用钱）! Many teenagers had the same answer: As a teacher, I advise on a few allowances and more if the kid helps with housework. Now that the kids are in middle school. it's time to think about paying them for doing something. My son missed a lot of school when he was in middle school so I offered the down payment(分期付款)on a car if he wouldn't miss any school as a high school student and the result was that he finally got the car.

Grace wanted to tell her mom. "Only buy what we need." Spending wisely and saving money is a good idea for all the students. The idea of thinking carefully about spending is exactly what I want to make them know in class. but they learn more at home. Teenagers look at their parents' spending habits, and they develop the same habits. So watch your behavior(行为)! 

Nikola's advice is helpful to all parents — "Mom and Dad, I think I should take part in financial(财务的)activities more so that I can know how to deal with money when I grow up."
