If you want to be a better reader, what should you know about the speed of reading? Some people read very quickly and others read very slowly. But which one is better? The quick reader may be a good reader when he reads a storybook for fun. But he may not be able to slow down to read instructions(说明书) carefully. The slow reader may be a good reader. But he may spend too much time reading a story for fun. So the reader who reads everything quickly or the one who reads everything slowly isn't really a good reader. Knowing why you are reading or what you are reading can help you to know whether(是否)you need to read quickly or slowly. Some things should be read slowly. You must read these things slowly all the time to understand and remember everything important. Examples(例子)are instructions for making or doing something. Also, math books, science and even some storybooks are full of important information. However, some things should be read quickly. Examples are picture-books for enjoyment, letters from friends , and some quick news from newspapers.

In some of your reading, you must change your speed from fast to slow and slow to fast. You will need to read some pages quickly and then slow down and do more carefully reading when you come to important ideas. So, knowing when to change your reading speed is one important symbol of being a good reader.

I live in {#blank#}1{#/blank#} beautiful town. It has many interesting places. Here are some of them. 

There is a movie theater，a pool and two {#blank#}2{#/blank#} in my town. You can see some{#blank#}3{#/blank#}    in the parks. They love to run around there. The old people love to exercise there. Young people like {#blank#}4{#/blank#} a movie，so they often go to the movie theater. If you love {#blank#}5{#/blank#} ，you can go to the pool with your parents. You will have a good time playing in the water. 

You can find a library in my town. The library is very big and there are a lot of{#blank#}6{#/blank#} in it. I love reading， {#blank#}7{#/blank#} the library is my favorite place. I often go there{#blank#}8{#/blank#}    weekends. 

There are {#blank#}9{#/blank#} restaurants in my town: a Chinese restaurant，an Italian （意大利的） restaurant and an Indian restaurant. I love to{#blank#}10{#/blank#} curry（咖喱食品），so my favorite one is the Indian restaurant. 

 Dancing is popular all over the world. People dance in theaters, in parks or in their own living rooms. But Yang Liu, a girl in Guizhou, dances in an unusual place. Her stage is a single bamboo pole(竿子). 

 Yang is a performer of bamboo drifting(独竹漂 ). It is a traditional skill in the girl's hometown. In the past, the local people crossed the rivers by riding on a bamboo pole. Now, bamboo drifting has developed into a folk sport. 

 Yang started to learn bamboo drifting at the age of seven. The bamboo pole is very wet and it never stops moving. Yang fell into the water again and again. But the girl didn't want to give up. She always got back up on the pole and tried again. She practised hard every day for three years. Finally, she was able to keep her balance(平衡) on the pole. 

 But Yang didn't just stop there. She wanted to live out her dream of becoming a dancer on a bamboo pole. The girl practised many difficult movements on the pole. She failed endless times, but she never stopped trying. Her hard work finally paid off. Now 26, Yang has made a name for herself as a dancer on a bamboo pole. People can't believe their eyes whenever they watch her shows. Through Yang's dances, many people now know about bamboo drifting. They have found the beauty of this traditional skill. 

 We all have heard of the global warming. We also know that pollution is a big problem, such as air pollution and water pollution. We know the Earth needs help. There are many small things we can do as persons to make a difference.

 Reuse things. Buying used things is cheaper than buying new ones. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Reuse plastic, glass bottles and cups instead of throwing them into the dustbin(垃圾桶).

 Avoid taking cars when possible. Don't ask your parents to drive you somewhere when you can easily walk or ride your bike there. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} On the other hand, getting more exercise will be good for your body, too.

 Recycle paper. Newspaper, old magazines and draft paper(草稿纸) can be recycled.{#blank#}3{#/blank#} It means that recycling just half of the world's paper will save about twenty million acres(英亩) of forests! Forest products are used in our daily lives. They not only help make our lives more convenient, but also make our Earth more beautiful and comfortable.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#} Turn off the tap when you brush your teeth. Shut off lights, radios, TVs, computers and other electrical things when you leave the room. When you finish using your computer at night, shut it down. This uses less electricity than letting it"sleep".

 What we do today affects(影响) the Earth and future generations. Let's take actions now to save the earth!
