I went to Grand Canyon (大峡谷) National Park in July 2012 for the firsttime and I knew I wanted to work there as a park ranger（管理员）. Park rangers protect the park's animals, plants, land, buildings, andpeople.

Now, as a park ranger forGrand Canyon National Park, I share the science, history and beauty of this parkwith thousands of visitors from around the world.

National parks are like outdoormuseums. Park rangers have all kinds of jobs, depending on where they work and whatthey studied during college. I teach school field trips（实地考察）, work at visitor centers and helppeople stay safe during their visit.

My favorite part of my jobis showing children their first look at the Grand Canyon during school field trips.Children are often amazed at the canyon's size and colors. Sometimes, they thinkit looks like a painting.

Being a park ranger requiresa lot of energy. I walk several miles and talk with hundreds of people each day.Park rangers must enjoy working with people and speaking in front of groups. Nearly5 million people visit Grand Canyon National Park every year.

Park rangers must also beprepared for any situation. Recently, I broke a traffic jam(堵塞). It was caused by a huge elk（麋鹿）standing in the road. Elks can become dangerous when they get scared,so I asked visitors to stop their cars and take pictures from far away. Believeit or not, I also help protect people from monkeys. It is not allowed to feed animalsin national parks. But sometimes, visitors try to feed monkeys.

One afternoon，a teacher was having a math class. However，some boys made a lot of noise in class. The teacher got angry. He kept them in the classroom after school. He told them to add（加）all the numbers from 1 to 100 together. 

The boys took out their exercise books. All of them began to write the numbers down except one boy. He was seven years old and new in the school. He looked out of the window for a few minutes. Then he wrote a number in his exercise book and put up his hand. 

"May I go home sir？"he asked. "I know the answer now. "

The teacher and the other boys were very surprised. 

"Bring it here. "said the teacher. 

The next morning the teacher asked the boy. "How did you find the answer so quickly？"

"Well sir，"he said，"I did not want to stay here so long. So I did my best to find the answer quickly. Soon I found it. You see，if you add 100 to 1，you get 101，and 99 and 2 is 101，and 98 and 3 is 101 too，and when you reach 51 and 50，you have 101 fifty times. That is 5050. "

After this when the teacher gave the class exercises to do，he gave this boy different exercises. 

The boy's name was Carl F. Gauss. When he grew up，he became a great scientist. Gauss's achievements（成就）filled many pages in science encyclopedias（百科全书）. And he was as famous as Archimedes and Newton. And he was one of the three greatest mathematicians（数学家）of all time in the world. 

My name is Evelyn Glennie. I am a solo(独奏的) drum player. Here I'd like to talk 1 my story. When I was about 12, I 2 interested in percussion instruments(打击乐器) and began to play them. At that time I lost all of my hearing. I remember when I learned 3 the tympani (定音鼓), my teacher said," Well, you know, mu- sic is about listening. How are you going to hear the sound?"I asked," Well, how do you hear it?" He pointed to 4 ear and said,"I hear it through here." Then I told him,"I think I do, too, 5 I also hear it through my hands, my arms, my eyes, my legs and so on."I mean that I 6 feel the music, see it and touch it. That's why I can experience every kind of music, from classical to pop, even though I can't actually hear it.

Now I 7 ' invited to travel around the world for concerts. I like to go to other people's concerts in different countries. I also like to find new instruments. Now I have 8 instruments. They often remind (提醒) me of how excited I was when I first saw local musicians playing them. These experience was such 9 beautiful memory to me. And10 thing is that every time I play instruments, I really enjoy my time with music.

Grace, Helen, Eric and Bob put their pencil boxes and jackets on the desk. The pencil boxes are white, blue, red and black. We know the boys' pencil boxes aren't red and the girls' pencil boxes aren't black. What color is Grace's pencil box? I don't know. But I know it is not blue. Bob says, "My pencil box is white." Then what color are their pencil boxes?

The green jacket is Grace's. The size(尺码) is L. The red jacket is Helen's. The size is L, too. The white jacket is Eric's and it is M. What color is Bob's jacket? It's brown. Its size is smaller(更小的) than Eric's. Do you know what size it is?

When she was 14 years old, Remya Jose's life was turned upside down by a family crisis( 危机). 

Remya, who lived in a small village in India, learned that her mother was ill and her father would have to spend his time caring for her. As a result, she and her twin sister had to do most of the housework

— including washing clothes. To make things even more difficult, the Jose family couldn't afford an electric washing machine. Instead, the two girls would have to do the washing all by hand in the local river, and then carefully carry everything back to their home—a task that took several hours. 

Being a good student interested in engineering, Remya wanted to make a washing machine which could be used without electricity. She started studying electric washers to learn how they worked. Remya then designed(设计) a machine that used bicycle pedals(踏板) and chain. To find those items, she and her father went to a local auto shop. Workers there not only gave her the parts, they helped her make the machine!

Here's how the machine works: Remya used a cylinder(圆筒) to hold the clothes and put it in a cube( 立方体). Next, she connected the bicycle pedals and the chain to the cylinder. As Remya pushed the pedals with her legs, the cylinder cleaned the clothes just like a regular washing machine. 

Remya's invention worked! She had created her own human-powered washing machine—and now a task that used to take several hours took only 30 minutes. Remya's washing machine was chosen from among 25, 000 entries as India's best innovation! She was given India's National Award and honored by the nation's former president. 

The story of this young woman's creative invention was known around the world. 

"Remya Jose made a difference, " said Jeanine Thomas of The Borden Project, "Her invention saves time and money for the world's poor. Her story shows that with creativity, one individual can improve the lives of many. "

Are you a shy person? When I was in primary school, I {#blank#}1{#/blank#} very shy and I really was. I was afraid of speaking in front of the public. You might not believe that I even got  {#blank#}2{#/blank#} when speaking in class. 

But now, I can stand in public and show my ideas without {#blank#}3{#/blank#} afraid with the help of my dad. "When you are talking in public, just imagine you are talking to your closest friend, " Dad said. He also taught me to try talking with( strangers in life. It {#blank#}4{#/blank#} funny, but it really helped me to be more confident. 

Little by little, with my hard practice, now I become {#blank#}5{#/blank#} than before.
