One day, I was waiting for my friend at thebus station. A man came to sell1andI just smiled and said thank you. I didn't know if it was because of my smile,the young man came closer and stood2meand started talking to me. "You know, I wasn't born like this, sellingshoes. I had a family, but one day my life just3upside down and all was gone," he said. He told me that hiswife took away all his money, sold his car and the house. It was really a hardtime for him and he was4atthat time. He had nothing and then5tosell shoes to make a living. I stood next to him and listened, but I was still6how someone could be so open to a totalstranger like that. Then I realized that some people get7in that way. We often meet people withtroubles in their hearts. For some of them, there isn't anybody to listen tothem,8I've learned to be kind to them. Ialways spare my time to listen to them. By doing this, the one9listens can not only help othersbut also himself,because he gets to learn something from what others10andsee other sides of life. This will make the world a better place to live in forall of us.

Liu Zhihua has become a star at a ski resort（滑雪圣地）in Urumqi, Xinjiang. She is the resort's oldest skier（滑雪者）, aged 88. 

Though she is a skilled skier now, she only took up the sport when she was 72. Before that, like many old people, she spent her days taking care of her grandchildren or watching TV. Encouraged by her children, Liu got on the piste（滑雪道）for the first time in 2007. "The first day was not easy. My arms and legs were sore. But in the next few days, I was able to walk on the skis（滑雪板）. When I was not afraid of falling, I became quite interested in the sport and fell in love with it, "Liu said". I've taken part in a competition twice. I didn't do it for a prize. Finishing the competition without falling is enough for me."

For Liu, skiing is also a way to keep her young and active. Although she is the oldest ski lover at the resort, she thinks she is just as vigorous as younger skiers . Liu skis for about two hours at a time under the protection of her trainer. Although she skis less often than before, she makes up her mind to continue as long as possible. "Doing sports brings me health and happiness," she said. "I don't think age has much to do with my mind. Old or young, I'm always brave and cheerful."

I was doing the work in the garden yesterday. It was a soft evening and I was   making the most of it when I heard a neighbor's voice coming from the path out of our garden. 

I found there was a man lying on his back on the path with his eyes closed. I   recognized him. I had seen him doing the drunkard's(酒鬼) walk along that path several times. 

I stopped to walk out. " Do you need some help?"I asked. 

He opened his eyes and said, " Probably. " Then he told me because of arthritis(关节炎) he couldn't walk well at the most of times. I thought I should do it when he asked to help him go home where he lived a few hundred metres away. 

I tried to let him walk under his own strength with me guiding him but that   was getting us nowhere. It was easier to carry him, but that would be a real insult(侮辱) to him. So, I held his left hand with my left hand and grabbed his belt with my right hand. Then we started walking slowly. 

On the way he told me his name, what he had worked as, what holidays he had been, how wonderful his granddaughter was, what his wife's name was, and what a hard time she would give him when he got home!

Thank goodness! His wife wasn't in when we walked forty- five minutes back to his home. 

If we wait until we feel good about helping before we help, then people will go unhelped and we will become the ones who end up walking on by. 

I was traveling alone through the UK. To reach places without public transportation，I bought an old car. The car cost most of my money. I couldn't afford to stay in the hotel，so I had to camp in my car for the rest of the trip. 

One morning，I woke up in my old car and saw a single house. The water in my thermos（保温瓶） had gone cold

But she wouldn't let me get away with just that!I was invited indoors. She asked me to have breakfast with her family. They filled my thermos before I left. I was greatly moved. 

The other day I met a young man who had been driving around to look for a parking lot. He looked very upset. I was glad that I was able to point one out to him. His thankful smile was the hugest reward（报答） for me. 

I live in a small town. Our town sits on a large {#blank#}1{#/blank#}（山）overlooking the ocean. It's a p{#blank#}2{#/blank#}good place to live, with fresh air and beautiful views. The p{#blank#}3{#/blank#} isn't too big, so it's quiet and peaceful. We have a small school, a few {#blank#}4{#/blank#}（市场），and a park where everyone gathers on sunny days.

Living in my town does have its challenges, though. Walking or r{#blank#}5{#/blank#} bikes can be tiring when you're heading uphill. Sometimes, it gets windy, and the wind can be much {#blank#}6{#/blank#}（强烈的）than down below.

There are some things we miss out on, l{#blank#}7{#/blank#}having a big shopping mall or a movie theatre nearby. But we have a strong community spirit, and everyone knows each other. We help each other out, and there's always someone to lend a hand, {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(尤其) when people get into trouble.

Overall, I think our living environment is nice. It's not {#blank#}9{#/blank#}（完美的），but it's home, and it's definitely better than living in a crowded（拥挤的）, n{#blank#}10{#/blank#} city. We have fresh air, beautiful views, and a close-knit community. What more could you ask for?
