贵州省遵义市2023-2024学年八年级上学期期末英语试题
These days, if you want to travel from New York to Beijing, the flight will take about 16 hours. You also have to wait at the airport, and sometimes you have to transfer onto a different airplane. If you add up all of the time, the trip will take at last 20 hours. But in the future, the trip from New York to Beijing might only take two hours.
Right now, a company is developing (开发) something called ET3—"evacuated tube (真空管) transport technology". Here's how it works. A tube goes all the way from New York to Beijing. The tube is only a few meters wide. Capsules (舱) move through the tube. Six people can sit in one capsule.
For international travel, the capsules can travel at about 6,500 kilometers per hour. Why can they travel so fast? Because there isn't any air in the ET3 tubes, the capsules can move at such a high speed. Also, the capsules are quite light. Each only weighs 183 kilograms. There are other advantages (优点) of ET3. Because it use electricity, it's quite clean. Also, it's a lot quieter than air planes and cars. Last, ET3 tube and capsules don't need much building materials.
Of course, there are still some problems about ET3. The biggest problem is that right now it would cost a lot to build ET3. To lower the cost, we will need much better technology.
However, it's still exciting to think of how ET3 will change the travel in the future. Who knows? Maybe someday you can have lunch in New York and dinner in Beijing.

Teachers are often considered to be engineers of the human soul. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} But there's one person in China who is called the "teacher of teachers".
He is Chinese educator Tao Xingzhi. Last year marked the 130 anniversary of his birth. People in different parts of China memorize Tao by visiting his memorial halls or holding meetings to think back on his thoughts on education.
Born in Anhui province, China, 1891, Tao studied at Columbia University, the US, in 1914. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} .But when Tao returned to China in 1917 and began his own career as an educator, he did not blindly copy Dewey's education method or theories. For Tao, education is an active process in real- life experiences rather than one of telling and being told. He encouraged "unity of teaching, learning, and reflective acting".
{#blank#}3{#/blank#}
After conducting surveys in Beijing, Tianjin and Shanghai in 1921, Tao was surprised to learn that the rate of urban illiteracy (文盲) in China went beyond 70 percent. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}.To deal with the lack of teachers and money, in 1927, Tao set up Xiaozhuang Normal college (晓庄师范学院) in the northern suburbs of Nanjing to train teachers and educators ,most of whom became teachers at rural schools.
{#blank#}5{#/blank#}He set up Yucai Middle School in the suburbs of Chongqing and offered free education to refugee (避难) children after the Japanese invasion of China began in 1937.
Maybe Tao's moto is the best explanation for his life, "Giving a whole heart, yet taking nothing in return, not even a leaf of grass."

Now many students have to spend most of their time studying to get higher marks. For this reason, there's often little time left for {#blank#}1{#/blank#} or communicating with others. This passage will list several causes of the situation and offer some advice.
One of the main causes is exams. They are the most stressful(压力重的) {#blank#}2{#/blank#} that students have. And most students take a huge number of them during their school years. Many exams ask students to {#blank#}3{#/blank#} and recite ( 背诵) facts by heart. Some experts (专家) think it could be better to learn how to use the {#blank#}4{#/blank#} to solve problems in real life. That is why some schools are {#blank#}5{#/blank#} many other forms of assessment (考核形式).
Another cause could be the students' full schedules (满满的时间表). After a long day at school, students usually have several more hours of homework to do in the evening. That makes {#blank#}6{#/blank#} very tired. You know studying isn't useful while you are tired. To solve this problem, students should {#blank#}7{#/blank#} breaks and, if possible, take exercise outdoors. {#blank#}8{#/blank#} it seems illogical (不合逻辑的) to suggest doing more activities when their schedule is full, taking a break can relax their body and mind. It'll make them work {#blank#}9{#/blank#} and better.
In short, this situation is serious. However, if schools choose other forms of assessment and if students can plan their schedules well, students may be {#blank#}10{#/blank#} to do things better and enjoy more free time.
