Want to be a football coach, a policeman or a model? If you could do any job for a day, what would it be? Takeover Day offers young people this chance.

Takeover Day is for young people to "take over" the day from adults (成年人). It gives young people experience in different kinds of jobs. Adults can also learn from young people's fresh ideas.

Here's what the students say about their Takeover Day.

When I was very young, people in our village lived by planting fruit trees. My grandparents always took me to the orchard (果园) on the hill. At that time, they had to carry water from the river at the foot of the hill. Even though we worked so hard, we had a hard life because there was little water.

One day, two young men from our government led a group of workers to our village. They learned about the difficulties we faced, and later, canals (水渠) and other projects (项目) began to be built in my village.

Soon after that, I moved to another city for my junior high school with my parents. I hadn't been back for the last two years. One day, my family and I made time to return. We were surprised because everything had changed. The canal ran past every orchard so villagers didn't have to go up and down the hill anymore. 4. The river was so clean that fish swam happily in it. When we arrived home, my grandparents took out some fresh pears and apples. They told us that these canals encouraged more people to increase the fruit production (产量) with clean water in the river.

5. 现在我的家乡已经发生了很大变化。Looking ahead, I am filled with hope and excitement for the future.

Nina felt nervous this morning. She couldn't believe that she decided to tryout for a talent show. She loved to sing but she disliked singing in front of other people. 

Taking a deep breath, she pushed open the door of the theater and went inside. 

The room was filled with laughing children. Nina saw Luz, James and others from her class. The bright, sunny room left her no place to hide. A few teachers sat on chairs. They waited for the children to become quiet. 

"Hi, Nina!" Luz called out. "I didn't think you would tryout. You are so timid(胆怯的) in front of people. "

"That's not true, " Nina said. "I'm not shy at all. "

"Yeah, right, " Luz chuckled(轻声地笑) and ran off to find a seat. 

One by one the students got up on the stage(舞台) and did their acts. 

"Nina Martinez!" a voice called out. It was Mrs. Brent, the music teacher. Nina rose from her chair. She felt small as she walked to the huge, empty stage. Her face was hot and her shaking hands were as cold as ice. 

"I-I-" Nina began, and then stopped. "I can't, " she said softly. 

"Close your eyes, " said Mrs. Brent gently. "Forget about everyone else. Just sing. "

Nina felt silly, but she gave it a try. She closed her eyes and raised her voice and sang out. Her hands stopped shaking. 

The song was so nice that everybody enjoyed it. 

Nina heard Mrs. Brent clap (鼓掌) loudly at the end of her song. "That's the first time I have really heard your voice, " she said. "You are in the show!"

Nina let out a big sigh(叹息) and smiled happily. 

Do you often play with your cellphone before bedtime? According to a study, 72% of the students use their cellphones in their sleep environment. Scientists have found a "strong connection" between the use of cellphones at bedtime and poor sleep. 

The first reason is that using cellphones can make your brain too excited. Besides, the light from a cellphone influences how the body normally works and then leads to poor sleep. Without enough sleep, you may find it difficult to pay attention to what teachers say the next day. Also, you'll easily get absent-minded and sleepy during the daytime. As a result, it seems more and more difficult for you to learn so many subjects. 

Doctors say getting good and enough sleep is very important for learning difficult subjects like math and foreign languages. They advise students to stop looking at cellphones at least half an hour before bedtime, because it helps their brains slow down and gets their bodies ready for sleep. 

If you want to pick up a cellphone at bedtime, try the following activities: 

*Keep a diary: Thoughts and worries can make you anxious at night. Writing thoughts on paper can clear your mind. 

*Try a mind exercise: Close your eyes and count backwards from 100 to 1. 

*Take a deep breath: Breathe in and out slowly and deeply. Just relax.

Brighton, a famous holiday town next to the sea in Sussex, on the southeast coast of England, is only 50 minutes on a fast train from London. The town usually has about 134, 000 citizens（市民）, but it gets a lot of tourists all year round. 

A long time ago, Brighton was a quiet fishing town. Later on, when swimming in the sea became popular, many rich and important people, as well as musicians and writers began to arrive and Brighton became a popular seaside holiday town. 

Prince George, the future King George IV, first visited Brighton in 

1783. He liked it and spent part of the summer there because of his poor health. He asked John Nash, a very famous builder, to build him a palace. It took about 40 years to build the palace and it cost 500, 000 pounds! Now more than 400, 000 tourists visit Brighton and the palace—the Royal Pavilion every year. 

The Royal Pavilion, with its beautiful rooms and museums, is not the only interesting thing in Brighton. In May, this friendly and colourful town holds an international（国际的）festival with many different kinds of music, dance and theatre.
