I was now in my twenty-seventh year on the island. One evening Friday went out to look for food. But soon he was back, and he looked very afraid.

"Master! Master!" he cried, "There's a great ship near the island, and men are coming to the shore in a boat!"

I jumped up and ran with him down to the shore. I saw that it was an English ship! But why was it here? English ships never came this way. Perhaps they were pirates(海盗)!"Don't let them see you, Friday!" I called, "We'll hide in the trees and watch. "

There were eleven men in the boat, but three of them were prisoners(囚犯). Their arms were tied with rope, but their legs were free and they could walk. The other sailors pushed the three prisoners up the beach, laughing and shouting and hitting them. The three prisoners walked slowly along the beach and sat down under a tree, not far from us. They looked very unhappy.

Very quietly, I came up behind them through the trees, and called out to them in English.

"Don't be afraid, "I said. "I'm an Englishman. Perhaps I can help you. "

The three men turned and looked at me. They did not answer at once. They were too surprised.

Perhaps they thought I was a wild man myself, in my strange clothes made of animals' skins, and with my long hair and beard.

Then the oldest man spoke, "I am the captain of that ship, "he said, "and these two men are my first and second officers. Last night there was a mutiny (叛乱), and the seamen took the ship from me.

Now they're going to leave the three of us here, to die on this island. "

"Do these mutineers (叛军) have guns?"

"Only two, "he answered, "and they've left those on the boat. "

"All right, "I said. "We'll fight them. But if we get your ship back for you, you must take me back to England. "

Friday ran back to my house to get all the guns, and the captain and I made a plan.

Three students are sharing stories about their favorite teachers.

Jamie Oliver is one of the Britain's most talented and successful chefs(厨师). He has always had a passion for food and cooking. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} This is where he learned much of what he knows today. However it wasn't until later, while working at the well-known River Cafe, that he was discovered by people working in television. At just 21, Jamie became famous with his first series television programs that have been shown all over the world. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} A lot for someone so young to achieve!

GIVING BACK

As his success grew, Jamie needed a new challenge. He wanted to"give something back"to the cooking business. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Many of the young people who came to work there hadn't done so well at school or had problems finding work, so this was like a second chance for them.TARGETING SCHOOL FOOD

Realizing that he could create real, positive change through food and cooking, Jamie turned his attention to the food given to British children at school. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} He knew things needed to change. Understanding the power of television, Jamie based himself in a school cafeteria and proved that with hard work, change was possible. Jamie'sSchoolDinnerswas again shown all over the world.

GETTING BACK TO BASICS

Jamie also decided to make a difference in people's homes. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} In 2010, he also developed a new qualification(资格),"Jamie's Home Cooking Skills", which is offered in high schools around the UK and teaches children practical cooking skills and basic food knowledge.

My wife's birthday falls at the beginning of spring. On that day, I came home from work, stopped her from entering the kitchen and asked her to eat out. "Has Lily called?" she asked. I shook my head. The atmosphere(气氛) at the dinner was oppressive. My wife kept glancing at her phone, showing no signs of appetite( 胃口 ).

Early the next morning, my wife got up, dark rings around her eyes. We only have one child. When Lily still lived at home, every year we would start the grand preparations days in advance for her birthday. And after she left for college, my wife would call her from time to time. How could she ignore(忽视) all our love and forget her mum's birthday? On the way to work, I texted Lily, "Your mum didn't sleep well last night."

The next day, we were about to have dinner when there was a sound of a key rattling in the lock. In came our daughter, face red with cold, a birthday cake in her hand. "Sorry, mum. Happy birthday to you!" she said, tears welling up. Immediately, my wife pulled Lily into a hug, complaining (责备）"You silly girl, why do you come all the way back at such a time? Don't you know it is cold inside?"

Lily just stayed two hours in care of missing her classes. Seeing Lily boarding the train, my wife started blaming me for that message, yet in a better mood. I did feel I handled this matter perfectly both for my wife and my child's growth.

Later, I called my parents and told them about it. I never thought they would respond with a long silence, and then said,"How many times have you forgotten our birthdays? Has either of us ever complained?"

Last Friday, my friend Deborah asked me if I would like to learn how to make tofu. I couldn't think of any good reason not to be interested in, so I said: "Yes". So the next day I met her and other three nice people and went to Hodo Soy Beanery in Oakland, I enjoyed the trip. And I learned a lot from the trip. The following is what I learned.

Tofu has a history of 2,000 years. Although the word "tofu" is from Japanese, the food may come from China. There are two main kinds of tofu: soft tofu (软豆腐) and firm tofu (硬豆腐). In some parts of Asia (亚洲), people use tofu as a kind of meat.

Douhua is one kind of soft tofu. It is a popular breakfast food in China. Because it is very soft, people can't eat it with chopsticks, but with a spoon. People often eat it as a dessert (甜点) and often add spring onions and sauce (酱油) to it. In Malaysia people usually eat douhua with white or dark sugar water.
