Clark and Dale were staying in the same room in a hospital. Clark was so sick that he could not even move his body._He had to spend all his time lying on his back. Dale could sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon. His bed was next to the room's only window. 

Over time, Clark and Dale became good friends. Every afternoon, Dale would look out of the room's only window, describing the scenery outside for his friend. He told Clark about the flowers in a park outside the window, the people walking by, the green trees beside roads—anything that might interest a man. 

One morning, when a nurse came to check on the two men, she found that Dale had died in his sleep. As soon as the room seemed tidy again, Clark asked if he could move to the bed next to the window so that he could look out of the window himself. The nurse agreed. Slowly, he could take his first look at the world outside. To his surprise, he could see nothing but a blank wall of another building. 

The nurse explained that Dale had been blind. He had never seen anything outside the window at all—but he described beautiful scenes to help his friend feel better. 

I remember my first Cubs（小熊队） game.My1 came to take me to watch it.

It was a Saturday.When we got there，it was 2 with many people.We had seats far back.But I could see 3 .I saw the whole field.It was much better than watching it on TV.

While I was watching the8 ，the team struck out（出局）.It went on that way for the rest of the 9 .We got peanuts.We even got another hot dog.And the Cubs kept losing.One by one they struck out.10 ，everyone was staying happy.Even in the end，the score was 7 to 0.The Cubs never got a run.

When we were on the way home，I asked my uncle，"11 was everyone so sure they will win next time？""That's what it means to be a Cubs fan.We believe in tomorrow.Every year we12 .Every game we hope.That's loyalty（忠诚）.Cubs fans are loyal.It's about being13 your team no matter what.And it's about 14 .Did you have fun？"

It's my second week at junior high. Today is Friday—the best day of the week！

My {#blank#}1{#/blank#} class on Fridays is history and I love it. We are {#blank#}2{#/blank#} the old history of China. I think it's very {#blank#}3{#/blank#} , so I often read the textbook carefully. Now I can remember many facts in the textbook {#blank#}4{#/blank#}. The second class is maths. We have five maths lessons every week. Maths is easy in primary school, {#blank#}5{#/blank#} I think it's a little difficult at junior high. I should spend more time on {#blank#}6{#/blank#}. After maths, we have English. 

We have a reading project. The class is very quiet, because all the students are doing{#blank#}7{#/blank#} projects carefully. We also have a PE class. I'm {#blank#}8{#/blank#} the football team of our class. We play football in the playground. 

Many of {#blank#}9{#/blank#} think Friday afternoons are great. Do you know why? That's because we can{#blank#}10{#/blank#} our favourite classes. I enjoy my school life very much and I hope I can do better in my study. 

In New York, every tenth-grader has to find a job to get some work experience at the end of the term. It is a good way to know more about a future1 we like. 

My dream is to be a 2 . So I worked as an assistant at a college. On the first day, I was very happy and 3 on my way to work. But as soon as I 4 the office, I was asked to make 50 copies of a document(文件). At that moment, I didn't even know how to5 the printer(打印机)! Twenty minutes later, I finally finished6 and gave the copies to the teacher. Then she sent me to another teacher.

A man was1 because he tried hard but always failed. He went to the 2 and met a wise hermit(隐士). The man asked, "Why should I keep trying?"

"Look," the hermit said, pointing towards3 plants. "Do you see that fern(蕨) and bamboo there?"

"Yes," the man nodded.

"When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I took very good care of them. Within a short period of time the fern 4 grew from the earth," the hermit continued. "But even though the bamboo seed was cared for years, there was no sign of 5 . But I did not give up on the bamboo seed and continued to water and take care of it. By the fifth year,a very small sprout(芽) came out from the earth. And within six months, the tree grew 6 tall. It was as tall as a seven-storey building."

"Did the bamboo stay still for four years and then grow a lot in the fifth?" asked the hermit. The man didn' t know what to say.

"It's simple," said the hermit. "It was making 7 roots underground. These roots helped it grow big in the fifth year and keep growing."
