The sheepskin raft(羊皮筏子) is about 2,000 years old. It is the oldest ferry along the Yellow River in Northwest China. The airbag of the raft is made of a whole sheepskin. The airbags are fastened (系牢) to a wooden stand.

It is said that the biggest sheepskin raft in old times was made up of over 600 sheepskin airbags. It was 22 meters long and 7 meters wide. It could carry around 30 tons of goods(货物) and run over 200 kilometers in one day, making it as helpful as a steamship.

In the early 20th century, before the 1950s, there were fewer railways and road traffic was difficult. The sheepsk in raft was the most important means of transportation for people living along the Yellow River.

Now people do not need to carry passengers or goods on sheepskin rafts. We can only find them along the Yellow River in cities such as Lanzhou and Baiyin. People use them to carry visitors on the Yellow River for fun and sightseeing.

Today only some of the older rafters still run the traditional sheepsk in rafts. They are inheritors (继承者) and are helping to keep the old craft(手艺) . Young people usually don't want to learn the craft. They like finding other jobs in cities.

Liu Hao is an 8-year- old girl. She lives in a village with her family. There are four people in her family, her grandmother, her parents and her.

One winter day, Liu Hao sees a cute yellow dog on her way home. The dog looks lost and hungry. Liu Hao feels sorry for him and decides(决定） to take him home. She names him Xiaohuang for his color.

When Liu Hao gets home, her mother is waiting for her.She tells her mother how much she loves Xiaohuang. Her mother also loves Xiaohuang, so they decide to keep him. They take him to a vet(兽医). The vet says Xiaohuang is healthy. Liu Haoand her mother are very happy: They buy him some dog food and toys in a shop on their way home.

Everyone is very happy to have a pet at home. Liu Hao likes to play with Xiaohuang. Her parents are happy to take Xiaohuang for walks after dinner. And Xiaohuang often helps her grandmother bring newspapers.

Liu Hao 's family give Xiaohuang a loving home and Xiaohuang brings them a lot of happiness.

Linda is our new classmate. She is a left-behind(留守的) child. Her parents 1 in another city. She lives 2 her grandparents.

It's November 8th and it is Linda's thirteenth 3 . My classmates and I want to have a 4 for her. In the morning, we decorate(装饰) the 5 with some beautiful paper and balloons(气球). Judy and I buy a 6 birthday cake for her, so everyone can have a taste(品尝). On the cake, there 7 a red flower. The party begins 8 9:30. Tony lights the candles, and then we 9 the song Happy Birthday to You to her. Linda is very happy.

After 10 the cake, we dance and play games in the classroom. All of us have a good time.

Could you imagine being in a car driven by a computer, not a human? Recently, China has made a big step toward self- driving technology. Since August, driverless taxis can run on roads in Wuhan, Chongqing and Shenzhen. 

Why do we develop self- driving cars? Self- driving cars have many advantages. They use computers with many cameras which can sense all the objects close to the car and give the computers another route (路线) . Then the car can take people to the place where they want to go. For disabled or blind people, self- driving cars can also help them get around more easily. 

According to US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, each year, more than 1. 35 million people are killed on roads around the world. It's reported that self- driving cars could reduce road accidents by 90 percent. The main cause of car accidents is human error (错误) . By using computers, self- driving cars don't make poor decisions or lose attention like humans do. 

But self- driving cars aren't perfect. If something unexpected on the road happens, self- driving cars can't react as fast as a human driver can. Also, during weather events like heavy snow, self- driving cars wouldn't see the lines on the road easily. It might lead to an accident. The car's computer system would be broken by someone, causing it to crash or change its direction. 

It's clear that there is a lot of work to do to make self- driving cars a common and safe sight on our roads. And China is taking the lead in making this happen. 

James lived in a village. He felt unhappy all day.

One day, an old man came to James' village with many sheep. He knew a lot about the things in the world. James went to see him and said, "I'm not happy. I have all kinds of problems in my life and I don't know how to deal with them. Can you help me?"

The old man said, "I'll tell you. But first, can you help me do a small thing?" James agreed (同意). 

Then the old man asked James to take care of his sheep at night, making sure they all lay down and slept.

At midnight, the old man came and asked how things went. James said, "I tried hard but I couldn't get all the sheep to lie down together. Even if (即使) I got some to lie and sleep, others would stand and walk around. What should I do?"

"    ▲    ," the old man said. "And later, you will find the sheep will all lie down and sleep by themselves. Problems are just like the sheep. You can solve some, but there are always some you can't solve even if you try hard. Leave these difficult problems to time. At the right time, they will come to an end themselves."
