湖南省长沙市华益中学2023-2024学年九年级上学期第三次月考英语试题

 阅读理解

Ten years ago, I took up studying luck. I wanted to know why some people are always in the right place at the right time, while others always experience ill luck. Many people volunteered for my research. Over the years I interviewed them, watched their lives and had them take part in my experiments(实验).

I carried out a simple experiment to discover why there were differences in their ability to find lucky chances. I gave both lucky and unlucky people a newspaper and asked them to look through it and tell me how many photographs were inside. I had secretly placed a large message halfway through the newspaper saying, "Tell the researcher you have seen this and win $50." This message took up half of the page and was more than two inches(英尺) high. It was looking at everyone straight in the face, but unlucky people tended to(倾向于) miss it and lucky people tended to notice it.

Unlucky people are just more nervous than lucky people. They are busy looking only for what they need and this stops them from noticing the unexpected. As a result, they miss out on chances. Lucky people tend to be more relaxed and open. They can see everything that is in front of them, rather than just what they are looking for.

My research shows that lucky people live by several principles(原则). Here are some of these principles:

* Listen to your gut instincts(直觉) — they are often right.

* Be open to new experiences and break your normal thought patterns.

* Spend a few moments each day remembering things that went well.

* See yourself being lucky before an important meeting or phone call.

(1)、Why did the writer do this research?
A、To find out how many people care about luck. B、To study why some people are always lucky or unlucky. C、To help people become luckier through experiments.
(2)、Which action would decide if the volunteer in the experiment was lucky or unlucky?
A、Counting the number of photographs in the newspaper. B、Correcting the exact height of the large message. C、Finding a hidden message about winning $50 in the newspaper.
(3)、What are unlucky people probably like according to the research?
A、They only pay attention to what they need. B、They are relaxed and open about everything. C、They care more about unexpected things.
(4)、Which of the following won't help you become a lucky person?
A、Following your gut instincts. B、Thinking in a normal way. C、Remembering good things.

The mascot( 吉 祥 物 ) for the 2024 Paris Olympics is a lively character named "Phryge" . Shaped like a triangle, it is red blue and white, mirroring the colors of the French flag. The design draws inspiration from the common Phrygian cap in France, known as the "cap of freedom" . The playful appearance of the mascot is sure to attract people from around the world during the Paris Olympics in July and August this year.

Olympic Medal Meets Eiffel Tower

The design of the 2024 Paris Olympics medal is inspired by the famous French landmark( 地 标 ) "the Eiffel Tower" . Each medal is made of the iron pieces from the tower. The pieces in its center are in the shape of a hexagon(六边形). On the back side of the medal is a small picture of the Eiffel Tower and the ancient Greek goddess of victory named Nike. Athletes must be very proud and happy when holding these medals.

Breaking Is Coming to the Olympics

Breaking(霹雳舞) is a lively street dance born in New York during the 1970s. It will be a new official sport of the 2024 Paris Olympics. The best B-boys and B-girls will show their great skills and creativity in one-on-one battles( 对 决 ), where each dancer has 60 seconds to impress the judges with their fast steps, hard poses and crazy spins( 旋转). So you can expect the most exciting performances at the Olympics this summer.
