In 1971, a poor young man was traveling across the country, trying to make a new start for himself. On the way, he had run out of his{#blank#}1{#/blank#}so he had no food to eat and had to live in his car.

One morning, after a week of sleeping in his car, he walked into a restaurant and ordered a big breakfast. After eating his first good meal in weeks, he found he had to{#blank#}2{#/blank#}to the waiter, telling him he had lost his wallet. He was so embarrassed(尴尬的) that his face turned red. The waiter, also the owner, walked behind the young man's seat. He bent down(弯腰), and stood up{#blank#}3{#/blank#}a $20 bill in his hand. It seemed as if it had fallen on the floor. "Son, you must have dropped this." the owner said. The young man was so{#blank#}4{#/blank#}that he couldn't believe his eyes! He quickly{#blank#}5{#/blank#}for the breakfast and went out.

On the way out of town, he realized, "{#blank#}6{#/blank#}nobody dropped the money at all. Maybe the owner of the restaurant just knew I was in trouble and he helped me in a way that didn't embarrass me. What a kind person he is! {#blank#}7{#/blank#}I have the chance in the future; I will do the same to help others."

Now older, the man lives near Kansas City. Each year he gives away thousands of dollars to poor people. He is regarded{#blank#}8{#/blank#}the "Secret Father Christmas", because at Christmas time each year, he personally hands money out to those homeless people on the streets. Last year, he gave more than $50,000 away in Kansas City.

Question 1: How did you become a National Geographic photographer?

My first job was for a newspaper. After a few years there, I met a National Geographic photographer. He liked my photos and said I should send some to the magazine. So I did. That led to a one-day job. And that led to a nine-day job, and so on.

To get into National Geographic, you have to give them something they don't have. It's not enough just to be a great photographer. You also have to be a scientist, for example, or be able to dive under sea ice, or spend maybe several days in a tree.

Question 3: Is it hard to get a job as a photographer today?

It's now harder to work for magazines. Technology makes it easy to take good pictures, which means there are more photos and photographers. Also, the Web is filled with photos from all around the world that are free, or cost very little. These photos are often good enough to be put in books and magazines. What the magazines need to do these days is to pay for these photos.

Question 4: I want to be a photographer. Do you have any advice for me?

Advice? Well, work hard. Be passionate（热情的） about every project you work on. Take lots of pictures in different situations. Look at others' photos thoughtfully and learn from them. And be curious about everything. There's something to photograph everywhere.

Today, I am going to start work in the plant. The working time starts at a {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(一刻钟) past seven. 

I work in {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(工场) 1001 in the Leaf. My main job is to {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(收集) sunlight and CO₂ during the day. And workers from the Root will {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(送出) up water, and the water will {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(上升) up to the Leaf through the Stem. Then, workers in the Leaf will {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(混合) water, CO₂ and sunlight. Finally, they will produce some {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(生成物). One is sugar. It helps the plant grow. Another is {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(氧). It is useful for animals and humans because they need it to breathe. 

Every day, I work hard until it gets {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(黑暗的). After a night's rest, I begin to work hard again the next day. I am trying my best to make plants grow well and make the {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(自然的) world better and better. 

I'm ten years old and my name is Freddy. I wear glasses and my hair is red. I love going to school because it is {#blank#}1{#/blank#}. All the teachers are friendly and they always teach us useful {#blank#}2{#/blank#}. My {#blank#}3{#/blank#} subject is geography and I enjoy the PE class. I have a sister, Susan. She is seven years old and she is {#blank#}4{#/blank#} beautiful. She has long hair and big green eyes. She is very lovely.

Laura is one of my best {#blank#}5{#/blank#}. We live on the {#blank#}6{#/blank#} road so we go to school together. Julio is also my friend. We sometimes {#blank#}7{#/blank#} basketball in the park or ride our bikes in the country. Julio is quite tall and he is very funny. He tells me very funny {#blank#}8{#/blank#}. Julio's parents are Mexican.

I get up at 8 o'clock because lessons {#blank#}9{#/blank#} at 8:45. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays we study maths, French and history. Lunch is usually at 12:15 in the school dining {#blank#}10{#/blank#}. I often bring my lunch box because my mom says it's better food. In the afternoon we usually have art or IT.

 When the Spring Festival comes, red flowers bloom(开) on the windows of my home. Of course, these wonderful flowers bring1 to us. They are made by my grandma 2 is now aged 70. With a few cuts, she changes a piece of paper into a beautiful work of art.

 When my grandma was young, she3 clumsy(笨拙的) in the village. But4 a cold winter night, she saw some beautiful red paper art works on her new neighbor's windows. She was so interested in it and decided 5 from her neighbor.

6 of paper was wasted, and her fingers were cut many times. But she kept on 7 .

 It took 10 years 8 my grandma could make paper art skillfully (娴熟地) . The red flowers, blooming like burning fire, light up 9 world. Now, everyone in the village respects her. My grandma's story has shown me what10 to realize one's dream.
