Wang Fang, a woman from Suzhou, puts her whole heart into Kunqu Opera. She started to learn the traditional art form from a young age. 

Born with a sweet voice, Wang loved to sing and dance and the Suzhou Kunqu Opera Troupe (剧团) (SKOT) chose her when she was in middle school. However, her parents refused the troupe's invitation, saying that her studies were more important. After members of the troupe visited the parents again and again, Wang's parents finally agreed. 

Learning the traditional art form was never easy. She started to learn how to pronounce and sing words, and how to make proper movements (动作) . She got wet through when practicing movements in summer, while in winter she often had chilblains (冻疮) on her hands. "No matter how difficult, I always got up early the next morning to practice," Wang says. 

Wang says she did not love Kunqu at first, but in her early 20s, when she watched the show by Zhang Jiqing, a master (大师) of the art form, it clicked. "Her every movement was full of beauty. Each of her words and songs was perfect. I was touched by the beauty of Kunqu for the first time, and I decided to stay with it all my life." says Wang. 

Wang once said in a talk, "First you must be a dreamer, then a doer, and only then can you be a master. I believe it - it should be this way and that I am this way," Now, Wang is a master of Kunqu. People of different ages love her shows and she helps the art form become more popular with young people.

Cats or Dogs? Both cats and dogs are popular pets. Most families, however, can keep only one pet. It can be hard to decide whether to take a cat or a dog into your home. Here, some middle school students are having a cats VS. dogs debate（辩论）.

We think cats are better for most families. Many people want to keep a pet, but they live a busy life. Cats don't have to be taken outside to use the bathroom. Instead, they just use a litter box. Their owners only need to keep the litter box clean. They don't need to worry if they are away at work for most of the day. They never have to run home from work early in order to walk their pet.

No, dogs are better. Just think about why you want to keep a pet. Dogs can bring you lots of happiness. When you go back home from school or work, your dog will always greet you at the door with excitement. Cats... huh... When you walk into the room, never expect your cat to be too excited about seeing you. What's the point in keeping such a pet？

Well, cats seem to have their own timetables, but when they do look for love, they will do their best. Moreover, cats usually live longer than dogs. Most cats can live up to 15 years while most dogs only have 13 years on the planet. Isn't it nice to be able to spend more time with your pet?

But dogs are more faithful. A dog never leaves its owner no matter what happens. Dogs also keep you safe. If a bad guy tries to break into your home, your dog will drive him away with loud barks.

Yeah, dogs make so much noise! Some dogs bark at almost every stranger, but are there so many bad guys? Cats, however, are quiet most of the time.

Dogs can be trained well. Cats have claws(爪子)and they are interested in everything. They can cause much more trouble!

Almost everyone is afraid of something—snakes，heights，public speaking and so on. 

It is normal and can even be helpful to experience fear sometimes. In dangerous situations，fear can keep our bodies alert（警醒的） so that we can act quickly to protect ourselves. 

But for some people，fear develops into a"phobia"which is a strong and unreasonable fear of something. For example，the majority of us feel a little scared when looking down from a tall building. But people with height phobia may have trouble breathing, feel dizzy or turn down a great job just because the company is on the 20th floor.

Phobias can prevent you from living a normal life. "People with spider phobia would stay out of their home or dormitory room for days if they thought a spider was present，" Katherina Hauner，a researcher at Northwestern University US, told ABC news. This is why scientists have been trying to find a cure for this disease.

Since fear comes from experience—from what we are told，what we see others experience and what happens to us ﹣ some scientists think if they can"rewrite"these unpleasant memories，they might be able to help people overcome their phobias. 

In a study by Hauner and other scientists participants with spider phobia were asked to first touch a spider with a paintbrush. Seeing that it was not actually dangerous，they then tried touching it while wearing a glove. Finally，they could hold it with their hands. 

Certain medicine has also been found to be helpful. Back in 2010，researchers at the University of Hiroshima Japan injected（ 注射） a special medicine into a fish—who was afraid of light—to turn off the fear center in its brain. From then on, the fish no longer feard light.

While the search for solutions to phobias is making great progress，it's an open question whether getting rid of fear is good. Some people want to use these methods to make soldiers fight harder in wars by taking away their sense of fear. Dave Smithson of the Charity Anxiety UK thinks that's a bad idea. "It's fear that prevents us from doing crazy things. "he says. "There's a name for people who don't have fear of consequences: psychopaths（精神变态）". 

January 1st is the New Year's Day, the first day of the year. It is a legal(法定的)holiday, and all banks, stores and schools are closed. Many people invite their friends to come and visit them in the afternoon or evening.

The only legal holiday in February is Washington's Birthday. Although Washington was born on February 22nd, his birthday is now celebrated on the third Monday of February. Some states also celebrate Lincoln's birthday on February 12th. These two, the United States' most famous presidents, were both born in February. The last Monday in May is Memorial Day(纪念日). This holiday remembers many service members, men and women, who died for their country. Americans celebrate Memorial Day with services in cemeteries(公墓)and churches.

America's great national holiday, Independence Day, falls on the fourth of July. It celebrates the birth of the United States. It was on this day that the colonists(殖民者)announced their independence from England. They had to fight hard for the next seven years to win this independence.

The first Monday of September is Labor Day(劳工节). This holiday honors(向……表示敬意)the working people of the United States. There are sorts of celebrations and speeches on this day, too. People go to all kinds of places to enjoy the fine weather at the end of summer.

Last Friday, after doing all the family shopping in the town, I felt really 1 . So I wanted to have a rest 2 catching the rain. I3 a newspaper and some chocolate and went into the station4 shop. It was a cheap self-service place with long tables to sit at. I put my heavy bag down on the floor, put the newspaper and the chocolate on the 5 and then went to get a cup of coffee. 

When I came back with the coffee, there was 6 sitting in the next seat. It was a boy, with dark glasses and old clothes, and colored bright red at the front. To my surprise, he had started to eat my chocolate!

I was quite uneasy(不爽的) about him, but I didn't want to have any trouble. I just read the newspaper, 7 my coffee and took a piece of chocolate. The boy looked at me in 8 . Then he took a second piece of my chocolate. I could hardly believe it. But I still didn't say 9 to him. When he took a 10 piece, I felt more angry than uneasy. I thought, "Well, I shall have the last piece. " And I got it. 

The boy gave me a strange look, then stood up. As he left, he shouted out aloud, "There's something wrong with that woman!" 11 looked at me, but I didn't want to quarrel with the boy, so I kept 12 . I did not realize(意识到) that I had made a mistake until I finished my coffee and planned to 13 . My face turned 14 when I saw my unopened chocolate under the newspaper. The chocolate that I had been eating was15 !
